1. National Dual Training System Curriculum (NDTS-C)

Definition:The NDTS Curriculum is defined as the documented training structure to be carried out by the industry and the training institutes comprising practical and theory components of the changing technologies, to produce k-Workers.

2. Concept and Structure of Malaysian Skill Certification System

Type of Skill Certification
SKM Level 5 - Management Level (Diploma/Advance Diploma Technology) Competent in applying a significant range of fundamental principles and complex techniques across a wide and often unpredictable variety of contexts. Very substantial personal autonomy and often significant responsibility for the work of others and for the allocation of substantial resources feature strongly, as do personal accountabilities for analysis and diagnosis, design, planning, execution and evaluation. SKM Level 4 - Supervisory Level (Diploma/Diploma Technology) Competent in performing a broad range of complex technical or professional work activities performed in a wide variety of contexts and with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. Responsibility for the work of others and allocation of resources is often present.

SKM Level 3 - Supervisory Level (Malaysian Skill Certificate) Competent in performing a broad range of varied work activities, performed in a variety of context, most of which are complex and non-routine. There is considerable responsibility and autonomy and control or guidance of others is often required.

SKM Level 2 - Operation and Production Level (Malaysian Skill Certificate) Competent in performing a significant range of varied work activities, performed in a variety of context . Some of the activities are non-routine and required individual responsibility and autonomy.

SKM Level 1 - Operation and Production Level (Malaysian Skill Certificate) Competent in performing a range of varied work activities, most of which are routine and predictable.

PHILOSOPHY OF THE NATIONAL DUAL TRAINING SYSTEM (NDTS)

The NDTS is a practice-oriented apprenticeship training system designed to develop highly skilled knowledge manpower to meet present and future industrial needs of Malaysia, particularly in steering the country to become a developed nation by the year 2020. This training system is organized in a dual form that combines workplace training with institution-based skills training. Training at the workplace (70%) takes place under actual work conditions in line with the latest technology. Apprentice is released for a specific period of time to attend training at training institute (30%) that provides support and supplement knowledge and skills related to the training occupation. The NDTS apprenticeship training programme will inculcate knowledge worker occupational competences namely: Technical competence (comprises knowledge and skills in the technical field); Learning and methodological competence (comprises lifelong learning, problem solving activities when planning, executing and monitoring workplace assignments); and Human and social competence (comprises character development and social integration when working in teams) The action-oriented teaching and learning approach that promotes active and self-reliant learning as well as teamwork will be applied throughout the duration of training. Learn and Work Assignments (LWAs) which combine and integrate the learning and working environments will be the main instructional tool used in the NDTS. LWAs are actual workplace assignments designed and adapted for the learning process and for the fostering of the knowledge worker occupational competences.
