A Word from our Pastor - Dr.

Dean Yancey
As we start into the New Year great things are happening at Providence Baptist church. We have made plans for this year and I believe that God will continue blessing our church family. This will be a year of growth-growth in spirituality and numerically. Here are a few things were looking forward to in the upcoming weeks: In February we are having a Sweet Heart Luncheon to celebrate Valentines day, This will happen on the Sunday before Valentines Day (February 12th) and we cordially invite you and your sweetheart to join us for fellowship and some wonderful food (no charge!) . Note: Our caterer will have sweet treats for purchase during this function for $10/box. In March (11-14) Danny and Phyllis Schofield will conduct a revival for us. The Schofields are a spirit-filled husband and wife team. Brother Danny preaches and they both sing for the glory of God. In 2011 they won the GCGMA Duo of the year, and Brother Danny won the 2011 GCGMA Entertainer of the year. I know you will be blessed by their ministry. The 3 Saturday of March after our revival, we will have our Dinner and a benefit singing for the church. Again Id like to cordially invite you to come and share a wonderful time with us. As Spring approaches in April (3 Saturday) we are gearing up for a Song Fest with the Georgia and Tennessee Country Gospel Music Association. Plan on coming for a wonderful night of Spirit filled worship in song. I know that you will enjoy this wonderful time in praising God. I find the best way to be blessed by God is to get involved in what is happening in praising God. I am looking forward to seeing you in church.

Food for Thought - Gene Richardson

Have you ever wondered why Providence Baptist Church has a food pantry to actually give away food? A food pantry is a lot of work and a lot goes into providing the food gifts for those in need. The food must be ordered, paid for, picked up, inventoried, stored and managed. Detailed records must be kept on all food distributed. The church is not a social organization and we are not commanded by the Bible to have a food pantry. So why take on all the work? Few churches are willing to accept this responsibility. At Providence we believe our Lord Jesus Christ commands his Church to minister both physically and spiritually those in genuine need. One way of meeting a physical need is to provide food during a crisis. Deuteronomy 15:11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land. Providence would also like the opportunity to help those who have become spiritually bankrupt. We are not talking about joining a church, a denomination, or about becoming religious. We are talking about helping you develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He is the answer to both your physical and spiritual needs. So the answer to why we, at Providence Baptist Church, manage a food pantry to give away food is very simpleonce your physical needs are eased, we want to help you also to be fed spiritually.

Tithing & Giving - Susan Sentef, Finance Committee Chairperson

On the front of the church bulletin Sunday morning was the statement a generous person will be blessed Proverbs 22:9. I pondered this statement and looked up the verse in the King James version which said, He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor. What an opportunity we all have in this present day! The economy is virtually destroyed in this country, and as a result so are the personal finances of many. We can feel a blessing in our hearts by offering something to someone who has none. In this country right now there are people who are hungry; children who have outgrown their clothes and have no money for more; people with no coats or shoes to protect from the bitter cold; and family units crumbling under the weight of these financial burdens. Generosity. The definition of generosity is the habit of giving freely without expecting anything in return. It can involve offering your time, assets, or talents to aid someone in need. At Providence Baptist Church you will find generosity, love and a church family. We have a loving and accepting church family that is and available for you and your family. If you are in a position to offer help to others we have opportunities for you. Please come join us for worship and praise! Sunday school 10 AM - Sunday Worship 11 AM & 6PM Wednesday 6:30PM.

Why is Childrens Church Important?

- Clayton Poe

We are having a great time in Childrens church! Our program this year is going back to the basics. We are building firm biblical foundations in our kids. Brick by brick or rather verse by verse we are building on the Rock that is Christ Jesus in order to make the foundation last. These foundations are more important now than ever in the past. Todays local news headlines are littered with problems our kids have to deal with daily. Just a few years back these problems were nothing more than big city issues in far off places. We might hear of gangs over running schools in places like Los Angeles and think we were insulated from the problem here in our little part of Tennessee. We after all are the buckle of the Bible belt and hold fast to our family values. However, our community is now joining the ranks of so many other towns that fell victim to the belief that it can't happen here. What did happen? Where did our insulation from these problems go? Its simple; we stopped teaching about Christ in our personal lives. We got away from teaching our firm foundations to our children! The Bible tells us in Proverbs 22 verse 6 " Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." The issues today arise not from taking the Bible or prayer out of school, but from taking the Biblical instruction of our children out of our homes. Evolutionary principles and worldly values are pushed on our kids from every angle and yet many Christian families forget to take time to thank God for the food He has provided at dinner. Our kids have much more to worry about than just the national debt, gangs in schools, or if social security will be around when they are ready for retirement. They are in a battle for their minds and souls. As the battle rages we must firm up the Christian foundation on which they stand. That is our goal here at Providence, to prepare these children the future leaders of our community, county, and church by building a firm foundation in Christ. Our childrens church meets at 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning during our adult service. ~Please have your child join us!~

AWANA & Childrens Sunday School - Pat Yancey

Our children are involved with the Sunday School lessons and are completing their weekly suggested assignments. For example, we ask the children to say something kind to someone they rarely play with or talk to at school. How is this helping them? They are growing spiritually! I thank God for our Sunday School program. Our Awana program meets Sunday nights at 5:45pm. The parents have been so wonderful in helping the children at home learn their scriptures. The children are rewarded for memorizing verses, bringing their Bible, and wearing their AWANA apparel. If your child has never participated in AWANA, why not try our program? Thank you parents for your faithfulness in teaching your children to be faithful.
