Newsletter April, May & June 2010

Flight line marshalling training was conducted in the month of April for Anoka and other Squadron members.

May 22 & 23 was Blaine Aviation Weekend. Everyone was ready but the weather did not cooperate. Once the skies cleared the people came out to see the aircraft that had arrived. The Color Guard did a fine performance to present the Colors to open the two day event. U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar and the Governor Tim Pawlentys office sent their wishes for a nice day as they could not be there. Local officials, MAC leaders and many people showed up and viewed how CAP cadets along with senior members marshaled the aircrafts. Many thanks to the parents group for working the stand to sell refreshments and ice cream from Schwans. Thanks to all the members for their hard work on the flight line, the recruiting booth and bottle rocket launching area. Craig Fuller, President of AOPA arrived during a lighting storm. He had lunch with CAP members along with taking pictures and shared some time with both the cadets and seniors. Craig did a presentation for over 175 people in a tent where two days of presentation were set up by John Bianciani of Flywell and his people. John arranged for Mr. Fuller to be the guest speaker. June 6, 2010 Change of Cadet Command at Anoka County Composite Squadron The Minnesota Wing, Anoka County Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) held their annual change of command ceremony for the Cadet Commander. Cadet Captain Peter Mayhew, Cadet Commander relinquished his command to Cadet 2nd Lieutenant Dane Bjorkman on 1 June 2010 at the Anoka Composite Squadron, Blaine, MN. C/Capt. Mayhew was an outstanding Commander and leader who served the CAP, Anoka Squadron with distinction. During the ceremony the Squadron guidon was used and passed from the Squadron Commander, Captain Shelly Supan to the outgoing Cadet Commander, C/Capt. Mayhew who relinquished his command and passed the guidon to C/2nd Lt. Bjorkman who accepted the Command. The new Cadet Commander, then passed the guidon to Cadet Senior Master Sergeant Donald Raleigh III, a non-commissioned officer(NCO), which represents the bond between the Commander and the NCO's. Upon assuming command C/2nd Lt. Bjorkman said, It is an honor to be your next commander. I look forward to what we will be able to accomplish together and would also like to commend C/Capt. Mayhew on his excellent leadership. While under his guidance we have all grown as a unit and I look forward to continuing that growth". The Cadet Commander is a very responsible position which takes a great deal of determination and commitment to the CAP program. The position is the highest rank a cadet can have in his/her squadron. The Commander will be in charge of over 50 cadets at the Anoka Squadron. There is no doubt that Bjorkman will be an outstanding leader as was C/Capt. Mayhew. He has been in CAP for 5 years and is an excellent officer. The Change of Command was written by C/A1C Lucas Cooper
