Lord Mayor's Student Welcome


The Lord Mayor's Student Welcome celebrates the diverse contribution of multiculturalism to our city through overseas-born Melburnians and the presence of international students. Nearly 30,000 international students live and study in Melbournes central city. The event is an opportunity to meet other students, enjoy fun activities and watch performances and cultural arts from around the world. When: Saturday 24 March; 2pm to 5pm Where: City Square, 44-86 Swanston Street, Melbourne 3000 Please note: the change of venue to City Square. Featuring: Katumba, fresh off the Block, Blackberry Jam Bush Band, Roaming Reptiles and see pet snakes and lizards, Student performances (Bollywood and Soran Bushi), Chop Sewy Paper Fashion, Host JMAC, free face painting, a photo booth, AFL clubs and roving performers. Follow Lord Mayor's Student Welcome on Facebook. The Lord Mayors Student Welcome won an IEAA (International Education Association Australia) Excellence Award Best practice/Innovation in 2009. The next student welcome event will be held in August.

Moomba Festival 2012


9th - 12th March 2012 - Moomba Festival is Melbourne! Every Labour Day long weekend in March Moomba Festival brings Melburnians together to share in the vibrancy and spirit of our much loved city, plus its FREE. This years festival includes an outstanding free music program headlined by established artists such as Josh Pyke, The Panics and Daryl Braithwaite. Join in and celebrate the citys colourful, energetic life at Melbournes largest, most treasured community festival. The Moomba Festival is a big part of our citys life, and is looked forward to by young and old. Moomba embraces everyone, and is a wonderful opportunity for you and yours to come and have a great time by the banks of the Yarra River. Moomba will surprise and delight Melburnians of all ages. Moomba Parade Monday 12 March, 11am - St Kilda Road (from the Shrine of Remembrance to the Moomba Festival site). Birdman Rally The antics are back with the hilarious Birdman Rally, where contestants aim to fly across the river by leaping off a four-metre platform with wings attached to their costumes.. all for a good cause. The NSW International Student Festival was held again on Sunday 4 March 2012 at Victoria Park, City Road, Broadway in Sydney. This fun, informative and relaxed event included great live entertainment, special promotions and delicious food stalls. A variety of information and support services were on offer to help new and continuing international students, their friends and families settle into NSW and find out more about the Australian way of life. In one day you can gather all the information you need from accommodation and employment, to banking and transport. And let's not forget that with live music, wildlife displays and more than 4,000 students from across the globe attending, it's also a fun, free day out and a great way to make new friends. We are looking for a few Indian overseas students to participate in a focus group. You must be in the 1st or 2nd year in Australia, who intends to stay in Australia for at least2 years after study.
