How To: Backup / Restore the WCM 3.0 & 3.

2 Server

Part One: Server A


Assuming that you have a fully functional Server A installed with WebDT Content Manager 3.0 or 3.2 Assuming that all services (Database, Publish, Content) have been installed in a single PC with default folders Assuming that you have already created a few playlists within server A All you need is to backup the databases and WCM library folder. Backup esignage and playerlogdb databases, do the following: Stop WebDT Content Manager Web Server or Content & Publish servers from Start Control Panel Administrative Tools Services Click start all Programs DT Research WebDT Content Manager Database Server ProstgreSQL 8.1 pgAdmin III

Right click on WebDT Content Manager PostgreSQL Database Server 8.1 Select connect

Enter your database superusers password

Right click esignage database backup Click Filename folder button to browse the location that you want to save the backup file Click OK

Right click playerlogdb database backup Click Filename folder button to browse the location that you want to save the backup file Click OK

Copy the backup db files and the Library folder below to your USB drive If you had chosen to install the whole Content Manager on one computer: C:\Program Files\DT Research\WebDT Content Manager\library If you had chosen to install the 3 services (Database, Content and Publish Servers) separately on one computer, you might have the following folder structures: C:\Program Files\DT Research\WebDT Content Manager\Content Server\Library

Part Two: Server B


Install WCM to server B with the same settings as server A (ports, file folder location, logins and passwords, etc). Stop WebDT Content Manager Web Server or Content & Publish servers from Start Control Panel Administrative Tools Services Copy server A library folder to server B If you had chosen to install the WebDT Content Manager on this computer Copy server As folder on the USB drive C:\Program Files\DT Research\WebDT Content Manager\library To replace the folder on server B C:\Program Files\DT Research\WebDT Content Manager\library If you had chosen to install the advance option (Database, Content and Publish Servers separately on one computer), you might have the following folder structures: Copy server As folder on the USB drive C:\Program Files\DT Research\WebDT Content Manager\Content Server\Library To replace the folder on server B C:\Program Files\DT Research\WebDT Content Manager\Content Server\Library Delete the existing esignage database on server B 1) Click start all Programs DT Research WebDT Content Manager Database Server ProstgreSQL 8.1 pgAdmin III 2) Connect to the database and login 3) Right click the esignage database and select Delete/Drop

After deleting the esignage database, right click to create a database new database to create a new database and named it as esignage. Then click OK

Restore esignage database with server A backup file. 1) Right click esignage - Restore 2) Browse to your server A database backup files location (USB drive) 3) Click OK

After the restoration is done, exit to pgAdmin III. You may have exit code -1 for error Language plpgsql exists. It is okay. You just click cancel to exit.

Restore playerlogdb database with DB backup file


Right click playerlogdb - Restore Browse to your database backup files location or USB drive Check only schema box for not restoring the old log data Click OK

After the restoration is done, exit to pgAdmin III. You may have exit code -1 for error Language plpgsql exists. It is okay. You just click cancel to exit and exit pgAdmin. You are done the restoration.

Start Servers from Start Control Panel Administrative Tools -Services


Start WebDT Content Manager Web Server or Content & Publish servers Restart WebDT Content Manager ProstgreSQL Server

Part Three: The Player


The player should be connected back to the server automatically if nothing has been changed (like IP address, name changes, etc). If the server and player cannot communicate each other correctly, Please try: Go to your WebDT Signage player (SA1000, SA2000 or DS) C:\Program Files\DT Research\WebDT Signage Player folder Double click Reset.bat and follow the instruction to reset the player. Now you can reregister all your players to server B
