Issue 03 (2008-04-25) Huawei Proprietary and Confidential Copyright Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd 1-7

1 Product Orientation and Features

l l

SmartAX MA5600T Multi-service Access Module Product Description

SBA guarantees that each ONT obtains a fixed bandwidth. DBA guarantees that the bandwidth is dynamically allocated to the ONTs according to the change in user traffic. SBA and DBA support a bandwidth control granularity of 64 kbit/s.

The MA5600T provides hierarchical bandwidth control in both the upstream and downstream directions.
l

In the upstream direction, bandwidth is allocated to the users or the user groups in the SBA and DBA modes based on the transmission container (T-CONT). In the upstream and downstream directions, accurate committed access rate (CAR) is performed based on the traffic stream. The traffic stream based CAR supports a 64 kbit/s bandwidth control accuracy.

High Rate
l

The MA5600T adopts the passive optical transmission to resolve the bandwidth bottleneck of the access over the twisted pair cables. The MA5600T supports the downstream rate of 2.488 Gbit/s and the upstream rate of 1.244 Gbit/s. The MA5600T provides a sufficient bandwidth that meets the current service requirements and guarantees provisioning of services with a higher bandwidth in the future.

Long Reach
l

The MA5600T adopts the passive optical transmission to support a long-reach service coverage, which the access technology over the twisted pair cables does not support. The maximum physical transmission distance is 20 km. The MA5600T supports the downstream forward error correction (FEC) to extend the transmission distance.

l l

High Optical Split Ratio

The MA5600T supports a high optical split ratio of 1:64. This helps to expand the system capacity and save fiber resources, thus facilitating the expansion of the network.

High Efficiency
l

All data is encapsulated as frames with a fixed length of 125 s based on GPON encapsulation mode (GEM). This helps to reduce the overhead bytes and improve the transmission efficiency. When the transmission bandwidth is 1.244 Gbit/s, the transmission efficiency reaches up to 93%.

1.2.5 Strict Security

SmartAX MA5600T Multi-service Access Module Product Description

The MA5600T manages the multicast user rights and programs based on IGMP proxy and controllable multicast. After the users have passed the authentication, the MA5600T transmits the IGMP protocol packets to the device at the aggregation layer. The multicast server transmits the video traffic to the MA5600T through the backbone network and the convergence network. The MA5600T forwards the traffic to the user terminals based on the authentication results. At the user end, the STB terminates video signals, performs media conversion, and controls program switching.

CATV In the CATV mode, traditional analogue signals of TV programs are transmitted over the cables. Through the electrical-to-optical conversion, video streams are converted into downstream optical waves, and then superposed with downstream optical waves of the GPON in the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) mode. The superposed waves are transmitted to the ONT in the downstream direction through an optical fiber. Then the ONT separates the video signals from the waves, and sends the signals to the TV. In this way, the video service is realized.

SmartAX MA5600T Multi-service Access Module Product Description

Compared with the digital subscriber line (DSL) network, the FTTB network has the following advantages:
l

Higher bandwidth and longer transmission distance In DSL access, the transmission rate is limited by the length of the twisted pair. Saving investment The FTTB network is an integration of the FTTH network and the DSL network. For an FTTB solution, the optical fiber is used for long-reach transmission and the twisted pair is used for short-reach transmission. This reduces the cost of network investment for carriers.

Good compatibility The FTTB network is compatible with the existing DSL network.

Overview
The N2000 BMS can form a network with the MA5600T through the following:
l l

Inband channels Outband channels

Because both the inband and outband modes have their respective advantages and disadvantages, these two modes are usually combined in actual applications.

Inband Mode
Inband mode refers to a networking mode for network device management that is implemented through the service channel provided by the managed devices. In this mode, the network management interaction information is delivered over the service channel provided by the managed device. Figure 4-2 shows the EMS networking in the inband mode. Figure 4-2 Inband EMS networking

MA5600T

MA5600T

The advantages of the inband networking are as follows:

l l

Flexible networking Cost-effective, because no additional device is required

The disadvantage of the inband networking is that maintenance tasks cannot be carried out when the service channel fails.

Outband Mode
