Selecting neighbor :

It is really important to make sure that each single cell knows its neighbor. While planning cells in the computerized devise we first allocate the cells neighbor. It is very important task, otherwise it wont be able to handover its call. And if handover is not successful then there will be increased number of call drop and the drop rate will increase. As a result the QoS (Quality of Service) will also degrade eventually. One important thing to remember here is that every cell has its own identity code, known as the base station identity code (BSIC). Neighbor cells can have the same BSIC. In such cases, the BSIC helps in distinguishing the channels of the same frequency. A cell can have maximum of 32 neighbors. The criteria for selecting neighbors:
1.

Select the most closest cells which is surrounding it. If a new cell is added, then check its surrounding, which cells are most

2.

closest to it, then make them neighbor.

3.

Suppose A is a cell, B is another cell and they are neighbor. Now if we

want to add another cell suppose C, which is in between A and B, then delete B as neighbor of A and make C neighbor of A and B. The act of adding A and B as neighbor of C is known as adding new neighbor. The act of deleting B as As neighbor is known as deleting neighbor.

Coverage for 900 frequency band : 1 sector in 900 band has 63 TA. As a result in order to find the coverage Theoretical : For 1 TA(timing advance ) = .5KM 63 TA = 63 * .5 Km = 37.5Km

But practically it is seen, it actually covers 17- 20Km. There is also a task of selecting coverage radius, which depends upon equipments. In our case each sector covers 3 Km at 30 degree. The stages of selecting neighbor : 1. First make its own sectors its neighbor.

For example :

Sector B and C is neighbor of A. In the same way sector A is neighbor of B and C. 2. Layer 1 neighbor :

Make all the cell which is most closest to it its neighbor.

Fig. showing first layer neighbor. 3. Layer 2 neighbor :

Here we only make neighbor to the sectorized cell or directional cell with a particular sector.
