Introduction to Computers

1) HARDWARE
The hardware are the parts of computer itself including the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and related
microchips and micro-circuitry, Keyboard, monitor, case and devices (floppy, hard, CD, DVD, optical, tape,
etc). Other extra parts called peripheral components or devices include mouse, printers, modems, scanner,
digital, cameras and cards (sound, color, video) etc Together they are often referred to as a personal computer
or PC.

2) SOFTWARE

The software is the information that the computer use to get the job done./ Software needs to be
accessed before it can be used. There are many term use for process of accessing software including running,
executing, starting up, opening, and others. Examples of software program or applications would be the
Operating System (DOS, Windows9x/Millennium/XP, O/S2, UNIX, MacOS9x/10.x and various others), Word
processor (typing letters), Spreadsheet (financial info), Database (inventory control and address book),
Graphics program, Internet browser, Email and many other.
Computer software can be divided into very broad categories systems software and applications
software. The former is often simply referred to as systems. These, when brought into Internet memory,
direct the computer to perform takes. The latter may be provided along with the hardware by a systems supplier
as part of a complete product designed to answer a specific need in certain areas. These complete hardware/
software products are called turnkey systems.
