WELCOME TO THE FIRST FSL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

On behalf of the PHA Director of Outreach Jessica Willard and myself, I hope you enjoy the first issue of the new Missouri State Fraternity and Sorority Life Weekly Newsletter. The idea behind its creation was to have a short, simple publication that covers all of the important information that a member of the FSL community would need. The format will be very similar to this each week, with two to four articles of community wide and chapter specific news, pictures, and a calendar featuring both chapter and community events. Does this issue seem a little light on content? Thats because we want the newsletter to be about you! In order to produce a newsletter with up to date information, we hope that you will submit content for inclusion in future issues. Had a fun brotherhood or sisterhood event last week? Send us a picture with some basic details of what happened and your pretty face will be featured in the next weeks issue. Raised a lot of money with a successful philanthropy event? Write a short article and send it to us, and everyone will know how awesome your chapter is. As a community we do a lot of great things, but we dont always get the recognition we deserve, so take the chance for free publicity and send your articles, pictures and events to FSLnewsletter@MissouriState.edu. Anything that isnt featured will be saved for an even better parent / alumni newsletter at the end of the semester. Thanks for reading, and we hope you enjoy the newsletter! -Michael Jones, IFC Director of Outreach

DECEMBER OUTSTANDING FACULTY MEMBER

Congratulations to Dr. Isabelle Bauman for being chosen as the December 2011 Faculty Member of the Month! Dr. Bauman was chosen by Adria Baebler from Xi Omicron Iota. Baebler stated Dr. Bauman should be nominated for her dedication and desire to help her students. Amid the hundreds of emails she receives every day, Professor Bauman always found the time to answer my late, last minute questions or schedule an appointment with me. During the multiple times I stopped by her office hours, she was always available to be reached, provided helpful information and clear solutions to my questions. When professors are able to make time for their students, especially outside of office hours, it shows me that I am valued as an individual; not just one out of the 80 people in my lecture hall. It is evident that Professor Bauman wants her students to do well and is more than willing to help them succeed. Thank you Dr. Bauman for all your persistent hard work, it is greatly appreciated! - Jessica Willard, PHA Director of Outreach

Anyone can send photos! The newsletter goes out every Monday, so please submit items by Sunday night to be included in that weeks issue.

PI KAPPA ALPHA UPDATE

The Pi Kappa Alpha colony at Missouri State University has extremely high hopes for the spring semester. Not only are we hoping to be chartered by May, but we are also looking to find a house. Last spring was our first semester back on campus. During this time, we boasted the highest fraternity GPA on campus as well as an intramural soccer championship. We hope to repeat both of those achievements this spring. Probably the most important thing coming up this semester is our philanthropy event. Burn Out the Fire is a firemans challenge which will be held from April 18-21. All proceeds are going to the Burn Victims Unit at St. Johns Hospital. Its shaping up to be a busy and productive semester for the PIKEs! - Travis Bannes
