Texas Parent Taught Driver Education Model Program Course 101

Prior to starting the Parent Taught Driver Education Model Program Course 101, you must receive your students Parent Taught Packet from the Texas Department of Public Safety. To receive the packet, the parent must submit the application (DL92 Request For a Parent Taught Packet). Each student should be registered separately with the Texas Department of Public Safety for the Parent Taught Driver Education Program. If you choose to print the entire course, it will be approximately 900 pages.
The Texas Parent Taught Driver Education Model Program Course 101 is composed of 13 Modules that provide the resources to meet the Texas Education Agencys Program of Organized Instruction for Driver Education and Training standards. The Model Program Course 101 includes documents to assist you in the delivery of a driver education program to your student including Module content information, Module questions, and classroom progress assessment booklet. To the best of our knowledge, the information provided is accurate and current. 32 Hours Classroom Instruction Follow the directions on instructional hours per day as stated in the DPS Parent Taught Packet Open the Modules content information for viewing or print out the Modules Print out the Student Workbook (worksheets for each Module) Review Module content information with student Have student answer the questions in the Student Workbook for each Module Review the Module questions with the student verifying correct answers Print out Classroom Progress Assessment Booklet Have student complete classroom progress assessment for each Module Grade classroom progress assessment and assign grade for Module Document all date and times for instruction on the Classroom Instruction Record, DL-91A form Video Links: Video links are provided in the Module content information. It is the responsibility of the instructor to determine the appropriateness of a video for their student. Disaggregated use and duplication for other purposes is prohibited without obtaining permission from the video owners. Student Workbook: A student workbook is included with questions for each Module. (Answer workbook provided for the instructor.) Classroom Progress Assessments Booklet: A student classroom progress assessment booklet is included with classroom progress assessments for Modules 1 through 11. Also, a comprehensive classroom progress assessment is included for Module 12. (Answer booklet provided for the instructor.) In-Car Instruction (Module 13 includes the content information for the 7 hours of behind the wheel, 7 hours in-car observation, and additional 20 hours behind-the-wheel): Follow the directions on instructional hours per day as stated in the DPS Parent Taught Packet Print out Module 13 Complete each Modules in-car lessons Document start time, end time, date when completed, and instructor signature Document all dates and times for instruction on the Behind the Wheel Record Log, DL-91B form
