The company Glckel was founded in Ober-Grafendorf in the late 1930s and was one of the first companies in Austria to specialise in the production of laminated beams in the 1960s. At the end of the 80s, one recognised the demand for and potential of prefabricated roof elements in structural timber engineering, in particular for sports, industrial and commercial buildings. Glckels large-surface roof element was a real pioneering feat; it was developed in the early 90s and subsequently patented. This allowed the first large-scale building projects to be realised with the aid of the highly efficient element technology. Continual improvements to the system, continuous optimisation of processes and more costeffective production methods as well as the broadening of the range of services (e.g. by setting up an in-house metalworking facility specialised in roofing and facades), resulted in the company becoming the market leader for building envelopes in Austria. With the increasing internationalisation of the company and its affiliation to the Rubner Group since 2006, markets are now being served in Europe and around the globe.

Glckel has been manufacturing glued laminated timber for 50 years now. The building material is processed using a special technology. Its processing in state-of-the-art production facilities makes glued laminated timber an all-rounder among building materials. The load-bearing capacity of glued laminated timber is similar to that of steel, but it weighs far less, ensures a high level of fire protection and is extremely durable in aggressive environments. It also allows a great degree of prefabrication and facilitates construction without thermal bridges, while also achieving great span lengths. Furthermore, wood is a renewable resource and therefore an eco-friendly building material, with which cost-effective solutions can be found while taking into consideration the aesthetic aspect and design requirements. Glckel manufactures all kinds of custom-made wooden beams from industrially-dried wooden lamellas. The beams are cut to size using CNC joinery machines. Built-in steel elements and state-of-the-art connectors are included in the construction kits for clients. Glckel also designs complete structures and installs them using its own staff. Glued laminated timber has enjoyed increasing popularity over the course of time in a wide variety of applications as an ideal, natural material; not least of all because it is easily shaped and processed.

Glckel has been constructing roof elements using wooden support structures since the 1980s. As a pioneer in this field, Glckel has steadily increased its technological lead since the patent application 20 years ago. Consequently, Glckels roof element can be used today not only in the construction of highperformance roof structures with particular requirements regarding architectural acoustics or fire resistance, but also to provide a solution for all areas where a high degree of prefabrication is desired to facilitate quick, cost-effective construction. Glckels prefabricated construction method is an elegant alternative providing the client with a host of benefits. These include customisable ceilings to meet every requirement (acoustic absorption, sound insulation), a variety of support structures in accordance with fire resistance classifications as well as adaptable roofing fitted at the factory. Moreover, prefabrication naturally means shorter construction time and higher on-the-job safety due to a reduction in on-site fitting, which is not hampered by changes in weather. The controlled in-house manufacturing process ensures consistently high quality standards and therefore maximum reliability through well thought-out, tried and tested solutions.

As a result of the many advantages of the efficient and resource-saving prefabricated construction method, wood is being used more frequently as a building material in wall and facade construction. The flexible support structures, which allow a countless variety of lining options for the external and internal panelling using primarily panel-shaped materials, cater for an almost unlimited amount of possible applications. Besides standard projects providing industrial and commercial buildings with simple and appropriate industrial facades, an ever increasing number of special projects make use of custom building envelopes from a natural source opening up a multitude of new design possibilities for architects and designers. With the aid of this building method, multi-storey residential, office and commercial buildings can be erected quickly, using relatively little energy and in an environment-friendly manner, while complying with specific needs in order to create comfortable working and living spaces. The financial benefit: As the overall wall thickness can be decreased thanks to the combined insulating and load-bearing properties of the elements, construction projects can be realised more quickly and at less expense.

Since the late 1990s, Glckel has been operating its own metalworking facility in addition to timber construction. Specialising in roofing, underside panelling and facades, while providing all the required connections and finishes, paved the way for Glckel to become a main supplier. Ever since, we have been in a position to offer our clients complete solutions for building envelopes and to carry out the orders with our own staff. Having Glckel as a partner gives clients the benefit of having a single competent contact point, in addition to a quick and cost-effective realisation of projects. This ensures that the solutions provided are of high quality and meet the requirements, while the party responsible for achieving this is clearly defined. The high level of in-house services leads to economical complete solutions, which do of course include all required accessories such as domed roof-lights, smoke extraction, roof light strips, safety installations, maintenance equipment, etc. in the scope of services.

The quality and safety of all products and buildings manufactured and erected by Glckel is not only of great importance to us at the moment of handing over we also wish to assist our clients in maintaining this quality for as long as possible. Construction standards have firmly incorporated the maintenance and inspection of buildings for a long time this is also in line with current technological capabilities. Experts in this field recognise that these services are particularly important for the purpose of sustainable investment. In the practical implementation, however, this awareness is often lacking; for this reason, we have made it our goal to inform our quality-conscious clients of the need for these services which also make a long-term contribution towards value retention. In addition to inspecting the safety installations required by law, Glckel offers clients its own regular safety check of technical installations as well as a standardised check of the building itself. A transparent cost-benefit analysis after the assessment facilitates the implementation of early countermeasures, which ensure cost savings over the long term.

Long before sustainability and environment-friendly construction methods came to be widely regarded as added value and as a sign of quality for products, Glckel took on a pioneering role in this direction. As we have been working with sustainable, green building materials for quite some time now, we do not need to alter our way of thinking or our way of working in order to meet the new requirements and follow this trend. In contrast to other building materials, which need to draw attention to their environmentally compatible aspects by means of expensive marketing and extensive advertising campaigns, wood is a naturally-occurring renewable resource with a high level of sustainability. We therefore invest the money saved on advertising in the optimisation of workflows and quality, and in the further training of our staff. Furthermore, wood is aesthetically pleasing and creates comfortable living environments with a pleasant, natural ambience. By means of PEFC certification which confirms that the wood used for our products comes from ecologically managed forests, Glckel is also visibly demonstrating that ecological principles are a top priority for us and that safeguarding the environment at every level is a matter of great concern.
