Best wishes GISRUK 2012 Local Steering Group GISRUK2012@lancaster.ac.uk ----------------------- REVIEW 1 --------------------PAPER: 4 TITLE: Development of database for marine oil pollution study AUTHORS: Nguyen Kim Anh and Nguyen Dinh Duong Comments for the authors: While I acknowledge that this is probably a very useful and worth while database, I do not feel that the content, primarily a description of the use ArcSDE and ArcServer to deliver data, would be of particular interest to a GISRUK audience. The paper was also 1000 words over the 1500 word limit and was presented for review full

of tracked changes yet to be accepted. Five pages of appendicies also seem unnesseary and inappropriate for an abstract. If you have any possible conflicts of interest in reviewing this paper, please note them in the REMARKS FOR THE PROGRAMME COMMITTEE section below. ----------------------- REVIEW 2 --------------------PAPER: 4 TITLE: Development of database for marine oil pollution study AUTHORS: Nguyen Kim Anh and Nguyen Dinh Duong Comments for the authors: An interesting topic with potential for widespread application. I do, however, have some reservations that I would like to see addressed in any final version of the paper. These are as follows: 1) please explain the problem more clearly paying particular attention as to how the system developed will be used and why the approach adopted is the most appropriate, and how it improves on existing systems. 2) please clarify the aims and objectives accordingly. 3) please re-write sections 3 and 4 in longhand prose or place in a flowchart/table. 4) please emphasis how the system is used and how it improves on existing approaches in section 7. 5) The conclusions need to be expanded to provide more detail, e.g. on system use, advantages over existing systems, advantages/disadvantages, future development, wider applications, etc. 6) Figures 1-3 and 1-4 do not contribute much and should be either improved or removed. 7) The appendix is irrelevant and adds nothing to the paper and should be removed. 8) Please review your spelling and grammar to address spelling mistakes/typographical errors paying particular attention to plural/singular.
