The Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) fully concious of the fact that Geological Maps are planning tools for the economic development of any nation, embarked on the production of the 2004 edition of Geological Map of Nigeria and other maps. Geological data were collected from various sources. Geological and Mineral maps were compilled intially on state - by - state basis. In the process, the existing publications and records of NGSA were re-appraised, credible references were obtained from learned journals, in addition, information were obtained from the oil companies and other sources. A peer review group, assembled for this purpose, moderated the data which were also authenticated through field checks by the NGSA. The present edition therefore contains greater Geological details and nomenclatures than the earlier edition. As far as possible, the Granite - Gneiss and the Schist complexes have being differentiated lithologically. An attempt has also been made to distinguish "pure Quartzites" and "Quartz Schist" from sillicified "Sheared Rocks" or "Mylonites", thus a new tectonic unit is being erected for the latter. Data Collection:- From all NGSA state offices nationwide and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) supervised by Geologist in charge, Data Compillation and checking by:- Mr. V. Ozoadibe, Mrs. S. L. Salau, Mr. A. Afolabi, Mr. Garuba, (Assistant Directors), Mrs. Grace Bukar, Miss Fatima Bahago (Senior Geologists). Photo Mechanical work supervised by Mrs. Kate Oyewole (PTO I) Cartographic reproduction and design - supervised by Mrs. B. O. Fashola (PTO I) Digital Processing - Supervised by Mr. H. O. Davies (Assistant Director) Peer Review - Moderated by Mr. O. Ezewu (Director, Regional Geology) The entire project was undertaken by committee on production of maps. Mr.. O. Oluyide (Deputy Director), under the chairmanship of Dr. Siyan Malomo (Director General)
