INtroDUCtIoN
The Letter of James was written by the Apostle James to the Jewish converts who lived outside of the Holy Land. All writings in the Bible are written by people under the influence of the Holy Spirit. It is for this reason we call the Bible the Word of God. James who is thought to be the brother of Jesus was writing to Jews to encourage them to continue growing in this new Christian faith. James emphasizes that good actions will naturally flow from those who are filled with the Spirit. He questions whether someone may or may not have a saving faith if the fruit of the Spirit cannot be seen. In Letters from Jesus I have taken the letter of James and put it into the words of Jesus. To do this, I have repeatedly asked the questions as I read each verse: What is Jesus telling me through this verse? How would Jesus write this verse in todays setting? Since these are letters from Jesus, I have divided the work to comprise about three or four verses in each section. This way it is easier to handle and also can be used as a daily devotion. I have also provided a page for your own listening creativity. This is your time with Jesus in which you can write your letter to Jesus based on what he has written to you.

lISteNING to GoD

Listening to God is an art form of prayer that brings out your creativity and draws you into the presence of Jesus. It allows the Holy Spirit to work through you, as you read the Scriptures, to discover the treasures that are in the written Word of God. Once discovered, this art becomes a way of life as you journey with Jesus on your own road to Emmaus. You soon discover your eyes are opened and life becomes a communion with Jesus as you break bread (the Word) together. Listening to God is a healing form of prayer, where your expectations come from Jesus rather than from yourself. In listening, you receive a personal message - for Jesus is always whispering to you.

1. TRADITIONAL PRAYER (Talking to God)

One way communication Offering Him praise and thanksgiving for what He has done Confessing and seeking forgiveness Bringing our needs and requests to God Most prayers and songs are traditional prayer format

Prayer becomes dialogue with God Listen for direction in daily circumstances Humbly steps back, listen to the still small voice Prayer content is based on what is heard or seen Answers to the plea made in traditional prayer Starts by seeking agreement before speaking Hearing Jesus A prophetic word Silence is often treasured
3. LISTENING TO JESUS LETTER FROM JESUS (Lord, speak to me in your written word)

Jesus speaking is tied in with the written Word of God rather than personal need Observe the meaning of the verse as it is written Put the meaning into the present time Put the thoughts into the first person as Jesus would say them to you Scripture becomes a personal word to you from Jesus

Dear Sister and Brother, 1:1 This message is from Me, Jesus, to you. I am sending this to you because you have chosen to serve and worship Me. You have chosen Me to be your Lord and your God. You are now My faithful servants. I wish for you to share this message that I am about to give to you with those who are scattered throughout My kingdom. 1:2 I know you are not prepared for what I am about to tell you. I am sharing these words with you so that you may be ready, and also be strengthened through them. As you live your life with Me, there will be tests and challenges that will come at you from all sides. At times you will be overwhelmed. You need to begin now to accept these challenges with joy.
