INTRODUCTION

A survey was conducted by our team recently on the College cafeteria. This survey has been designed by our respective team members and the purpose of this survey was to deal with certain problems that are being faced by the students of Kinnaird College regarding the food being offered at the cafeteria. The problems that we shall be giving a voice to are related to high food prices, the quality of the food being offered, choices available, level of hygiene being offered and finally recommendations on improving the cafeteria. Our survey includes participants from intermediate and bachelors level. This survey shall not reveal the identity of the participants .Only their respective semester and ages are to be mentioned. Over a period of 3 days 30 people were questioned .This report shall provide you with preliminary findings.

What are the problems with the food served in the cafeteria?

Out of the 30 people who completed the survey, 90percent people reported that the food is not hygienically fit to be consumed and 10percent reported that the food does not taste good.

Which is the most preferred food item at cafeteria?

When asked about the food most preferred by the students from the cafeteria 66.6 percent of students replied that they liked fries the most, followed by pizza and samosa with 16.6 percent respectively.

This question can be regarded as the most important question of the survey. Obviously the food prices would affect the level of buying of a certain food item. So the item with higher price would have fewer sales as compared to the item with lower price. So out of the 30 people 96.6 percent answered that the prices are really high. Whereas 3.3 percent answered that they are satisfactory.

Are the food choices available satisfactory or needs improvement?

There was a general consensus reached by the candidates that the food choices are very limited and hence needs improvement.

Is the cafeteria clean? The answer was no. Almost 66.6percent took the blame on them that the students are responsible for this because its not the sole responsibility of the management to keep the area clean. While 16.6 percent said that the management is solely responsible for keeping the cafeteria clean.

55 Percent reported that they had not spoken to anyone, while 45 percent stated that they have reported their concerns.

When asked this question the students answered that there is no sound organization working for the betterment of the cafeteria .They have been reporting their concerns but off no use as their concerns are not taken seriously.

Many students reported that they have to spend the entire day in the college so they are dependent upon the cafeteria despite of all the problems they face as they cant afford to order food every day. Reasons for which students avoid going to cafeteria is 1) 60 percent students reported that they avoid because the food prices are too high and the food isnt worth it, 2)23.3 percent stated that

cleanliness is a major issue for them3) however 10perecent said that the food portion they get out of the huge amount they pay for the food is just not justified.

All the participants who completed the survey were in the favors of food police the new commission being

established to keep a close check on cafeteria. Participants said that the food police comprise of students. Hence they could relate to the members of the commission.

One thing is clear from this survey that students are ready to avail cafeteria services if they are improved .A commission has been made for managing the cafeteria its known as the food police they will manage issues like hygiene, cleanliness, price, quality and quantity of the food. Students are strongly in support of this commission because the students believe that they have a right to have clean and healthy food, available at reasonable price at their disposal as they have to stay back in the College.

Suggestions given by students in order to improve cafeteria: 1) Placing dustbins, exhaust fans and airfresheners. 2) Permanent long tables housing 6 to 8 people. 3) Improvement in quality of the food being offered and there should be more food items and healthy food items rather than junk food. 4) More staff to cater students. 5) Considerable reduction in food prices.
