COURSE INTRODUCTION
Instrument Flight Procedure is a complex field of activity. Air traffic volume grows worldwide, terminal airspaces are more and more congested, navigation technology evolves and environmental issues are certainly not decreasing. More and more the procedure design expert has to address many issues and good and continuous training become one of the key elements in creating safe and efficient instrument flight procedures. For aviation management student it is vital not only to know the guidance material such as flight navigation, flight planning and aviation law, but more and more also other related topics such as visual flight rules, instrument flight rules, airspace, flight plan, fuel and oil requirement, standard separation minima, ATS routes and holding procedures.
BS AVIATION MANAGEMENT 3 Session: Aviation Law, Flight Planning Instrument Flight Procedures by Sheikh Nawaz Aziz (book copy available at university book shop)
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Students will become aware of the current situation in the provision of radio navigation aid flight testing and instrumental flight procedures in the Pakistan. Students are expected to present material on the infrastructure available of instrument flight procedures, status of radio navigation aids and airspace procedures implemented. Also, an analysis will be made in order to support the Region that do not have their own instrument approach procedure and are interested in making use of navigational aids having the capability to conduct their instrumental procedures flight tests.

Research/case studies Topic Start Due Integrating GBAS and RNP: Continental Airlines Case Study
Objectives This presentation will study the fusion of RNP and Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS) which can create a curved path, multi-mode approach. GBAS supports NextGen Airspace Architecture and provides a mechanism to fly a non-linear trajectory to a precision approach with a future path to autoland. This session will provide an in-depth orientation on GBAS and GPS Landing Systems (GBAS/GLS). Key learning points include: Reliability and efficiency of GBAS Standard equipment on B737NG, B787, B747-8, A380 and future A350s How GBAS is runway independent and an outstanding solution for flood, hurricane and typhoon prone locations Boeing fully supports Performance Based Navigation as a key component of the NextGen development process and modernization of the national air space. During this session we will address the steps and initiatives that Boeing is leveraging to promote and foster RNAV/RNP and ADS-B. Discussion points will focus on: Avionics and new aircraft development Retrofitting Performance standards and operational readiness Learn how some of the industrys leading airports are capitalizing on the value of PBN to improve efficiency Quality Curriculum Designing
