COUNCIL: $40-M capital budget includes more than 100 projects

City OKs spending

City spending is in full swing with council approving millions of dollars worth of capital projects. Council gave the nod to a list of expenditures this week, ranging from vehicle replacement to rural roadway reconstruction. The projects are planned as part of the citys 2012 capital budget which was approved in January. The capital budget of approximately $40 million spells out spending for more than 100 projects slated for 2012. Each individual project, however, requires council approval.

Rural roadway reconstruction. Includes improvement to approximately 7% of the citys 135 kilometres of rural roads.

Roof repairs at the city water and sanitary sewer administrations building on Franklin Street.

Sewage plant and pumping station improvement program. Includes repairs and upgrades to at sewage plant and pumping stations throughout the city.

Vehicle and equipment replacement program, roads and trafc division. Includes purchase of a service truck; a regular cab, two-wheel drive one-ton with aluminium dump box; tandem truck with plow/wing and sander unit; three supervisor half-ton 4x4 extended cabs; single axe truck with rock box; plow only with sander unit; and snow blade attachment.

Information technology program for water and sewer, corporate and business unit. Includes replacement of server, network infrastructure, workstations and software licensing.

Hydrant and water valve rehabilitation program. Includes testing and work on re hydrants.

Vehicle and equipment replacement program for sewer and water division. Includes purchase of sewer usher truck; two crane two-ton trucks; a backhoe loader and various pumps, compressors and steel fencing.

Corporate radio communications system. Includes new, single citywide digital and analog systems.

Road culvert replacement. Includes replacement of numerous culverts as part of the rural roadway program.

Ongoing design of projects slated for next year. Includes trafc studies, detailed surveys, conceptual designs, geotechnical investigations, camera inspections and watermain ow testing.

Kings Landing and marina rehabilitation program (seen below). Includes ongoing marina dock replacement, Kings Landing repairs, minor renovations to marina ofce, security camera installation at marina, marina dredging and replacement of electricity pedestals.
