vehicles. The BMWVision EfcientDynamics features advanced plug-in hybrid technology
with a system output of 241 kW (32B hp). This ensures sports car-level performance
(01 00 km/h in 4.B seconds) combined with the fuel consumption of a city car (3.75 litres
per 1 00 km, 99 g of CO2 per km). BMWwill offer the BMWiB, a production model based on

BMW EFFICIENT DYNAMICS
MAKING A LITTLE GO A LONG WAY.
BMWwas one of the rst manufacturers to pursue the goal of efcient drive technologies, as a part
of our multiple award-winning sustainability strategy. BMW Ef cientDynamics, included as
standard, is a comprehensive, multi-award-winning technology package designed to reduce
fuel consumption and emissions while simultaneously enhancing dynamic performance. With it,
the BMWGroup has been able to reduce the CO2 emissions of its European new-vehicle eet by
about 30since 1 99G. There are now39 models1 producing less than 1 40 g of CO2 per kilometre,
and more than two million vehicles equipped with Efcient Dynamics have been delivered to
customers. The BMWGroup intends to achieve a further 2Greduction in CO2 emissions by 2020.
Different paths to the same destination: unmistakable BMWdriving pleasure. Under the umbrella
of the BMWEfcientDynamics project, BMWis continuously developing innovative systems that
will bring us closer to the goal of emission-free mobility in the long term. This BMWinitiative for
more driving pleasure is based on several pillars:
Technology package. The optimisation of vehicles powered by conventional diesel and
petrol engines continues apace. A comprehensive technology package enables the reduction
of fuel consumption and emissions, while at the same time increasing power output and
driving enjoyment. These advances are based on innovations such as BMWTwinPower Turbo
technology, Brake Energy Regeneration, air vent control and many others.
BMWActiveHybrid. The BMWActiveHybrid X5 and BMWActiveHybrid 7 represent the rst two
volume hybrid models in the BMWmodel range. They both combine high efciency with superior
dynamic performance.
BMWActiveE. 201 1 will see the debut of a newtype of dynamism: the BMWActiveE. Powered
by electricity alone, it is manufactured in a small production run, as part of a pilot project. ln this
way, BMWis preparing the way for the emissions-free mobility of tomorrow.
BMWHydrogen. BMWcontinues its research into alternative drive concepts for the future, such
as hydrogen drive.
The BMWi brand will launch completely newvehicle concepts for sustainable mobility in an
urban environment, such as the BMWi3 (Megacity Vehicle) and the BMWiB. Key features of these
vehicle concepts include the use of lightweight materials such as CFRP, electric drive systems,
powerful battery technology and eco-friendly production methods. BMW EfcientDynamics

This combines the latest fuel injection technology, fully variable power control and innovative
turbocharging technology to increase efciency and dynamics.
Air vent control.
Engine management signals the engines current cooling requirements while driving, rendering
a permanent airstreamthrough the radiator unnecessary. The air vents in front of the radiator
open or close depending on the outside temperature and road speed. When shut they improve
aerodynamics, shorten the engines warm-up time and so reduce fuel consumption.
Some BMWEfficientDynamics features are dependent on the cars equipment and are not available for all model variants.

Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance.
When a car is being driven, its tyres are constantly changing shape. This uses up energy and thus
fuel. Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance have an improved design and use special materials for
their road treads and side walls, therefore reducing deformation.
Brake Energy Regeneration.
To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator) is permanently driven using
engine power, which demands additional fuel consumption. Brake Energy Regeneration means
the generator usually only creates electricity when the driver either takes his foot off the accelerator
or applies the brakes previously unused kinetic energy is transformed in coasting mode into
electrical energy before being fed into the battery. In this way, electricity is generated while
coasting, without consuming fuel.

The BMW ActiveHybrid X is the worlds first Sport Activity coup with a hybrid drive system. It unites exemplary
efficiency with hallmark BMWdynamics and driving pleasure. The combination of a combustion engine and an electric
unit withstoragebatteryallowsfor particularlyefficient energymanagement. BMWActiveHybridcombines this technology
with typical BMW driving characteristics. The upshot is a hybrid combining low fuel consumption with impressive
performance data a true BMW, in other words. The advantages of an electric motor maximumtorque readily available
fromlowengine speeds, for example perfectly complement the dynamics and efficiency of BMWcombustion engines.
As well as reduced fuel consumption, the BMW-specific interpretation of hybrid technology also makes itself felt in

is as simple as it is intelligent. Each time you applythe brakes, kinetic energy is released which, in
the ActiveHybrid models, is stored in a high-performance battery. It can then be reused bythe drive
system. This saves fuel while also ensuringthat the energy gainedfroma braking action is not lost
and can be used at anytime to enhance overall output.
BMWACTIVEHYBRID. ACCELERATESACCELERATION. Perfect proof that enhanced efficiency
can go hand in hand with maximum driving pleasure is provided by the boost function in the
BMWActiveHybridmodels. It is basedontheideaof theelectricunit givingatemporarybut significant
boost to the combustion engines output. Akey advantage of this technology is that it allows very
spontaneous and powerful output. It comes into its own particularly when moving off and during
acceleration and overtaking. In this way, the cars performance is significantly enhanced without
consuming extra fuel. It can only be a good thing when helping the sustainability cause brings so
much pleasure.
EXPERIENCE STILLNESS. WITHOUT STANDING STILL. At speeds of up to km/h, the
BMWActiveHybrid X is able to run on electric power for brief periods. At km/h, the distance
is up to . km. This occurs automatically and allows you to drive almost noiselessly and,
above all, totally emission-free. An intelligent operating strategy controls the interplay of the
combustion engine and the hybrid drive system, thus ensuring maximumefficiency and power
at all times. You can hardly experience more serene driving pleasure than that.
INTELLIGENTENERGYMANAGEMENTSTARTSBEFOREYOUMOVEOFF. The BMWActiveHybrid
X is one of the first BMW models with an automatic transmission to feature an engine Start/Stop
function. Everytimeyoucometoa standstill ina BMWActiveHybridmodel youactivelysavefuel thanks
tothe HybridStart/Stopfunction. Thats becausethe engine switches off whenthe car is stationary.
This cuts fuel consumption andemissions, above all in urbantraffic. That wayyou doyour fuel bills and
the environment a favour.
YOU KNOW WHAT A HYBRID IS. YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT BMW MAKES OF IT.
Two electric motors: these take over the function of starting the engine and back up the
combustion engine as required in order to enhance driving dynamics. During Brake Energy
Regeneration, the electric motors act as generators. Two-mode active transmission: this controls the interplay of the electric motor and
the combustion engine. Mode is available for starting off and mode is optimised for
higher speeds. Configuration as a -speed automatic transmission ensures a typical
BMW driving experience, while manual gear changes can be carried out using the
gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.
Battery: the space-saving, high-performance nickel-metal hydride battery stored under the
luggage compartment is fully suited for everyday use while leaving enough roomto transport
up to four golf bags, as in the conventional BMWX.
Electric air conditioning compressor: the electric drive of the air conditioning system is
independent of the combustion engine, which means a pleasant climate can be created even
when driving on electric power alone and at standstill when the engine is switched off.
More agile, more precise, and safer: Dynamic Performance Control1, which celebrates its world
premiereintheBMWX6, definesanewstandardfor sportydrivingpleasure. Extremelyhighdirectional
stability and flawless handling are the fruits of this technology. This is noticeable through corners
in particular. Here it gives the BMWX6 appreciably greater agility. Dynamic Performance Control
distributes drive flexibly betweenthe rear wheels. Inbends, the systemchannels more drive through
the outer rear wheel effectively pushing the car into the corner. The BMW therefore follows the
pathof the roadaccurately andoffers incredibly precise handling. Accordingtothe drivingsituation,
a greater proportion of torque is diverted efficiently to the wheel that can transfer most drive to the
road. This allows any interventions fromthe Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system which were
required previously to be minimised when accelerating out of corners. The result is even
greater traction.
In addition, Dynamic Performance Control counteracts oversteer and understeer and increases the
stability of the BMWX6. The control systemalso helps the driver on tricky road surfaces because
more drive is sent to the rear wheel with better grip even when driving straight ahead. This results
ina decisive improvement intractionandtheX6develops impressivethrust. Inother words, Dynamic
Performance Control allows you to enjoy the power of this car in any situation.
THE BEST WAY TO REACH YOUR GOALS IS
THROUGH CLEVER POWER DISTRIBUTION.
In a right-hand corner, the left rear wheel
can transfer more power to the road, so
Dynamic Performance Control distributes
more drive to that wheel.
When driving straight ahead, equal power is
sent to each of the rear wheels, generating
optimumtraction.
In a left-hand corner, Dynamic Performance
Control sends more drive to the right rear
wheel which, in this situation, can transfer
more power to the road.

dynamic driving pleasure in any situation. Its a similar story with optional Active Steering2. This
ensures greater cornering enjoyment by enabling even more direct and precise steering and
greater agility on twisty sections of road in particular. Moreover, it lets you enjoy better tracking
stability. Aplanetary gear set integratedintothe steeringcolumnvaries the steeringangle according
to the cars speed. At low and moderate speeds, the angle of the front wheels is increased an
advantage that also makes parkingnoticeablyeasier. Whenthe steeringwheel is turned bythe same
amount at high speeds, the steering angle is smaller and the BMW X6 remains precisely on track.
Greater agility is also provided by the optionally available Adaptive Drive system. This uses
Servotronic to optimize steering forces during normal and dynamic driving and combines the two
active chassis control systems Dynamic Damping Control and Dynamic Drive. These feature
active stabilisers on the front and rear axles with integral hydraulic elements, which reduce roll to
a minimumthrough corners. Plus, the dampers automatically reduce pitching movements in
the BMWX6 under braking, for example. The effect will put a smile on the face of not only the
driver but each rear passenger, too, because they also benefit fromthe extraordinary level of
stability and high comfort.
CORNERS CANNOT BE CHANGED.
BUT YOU CAN ALWAYS GET MORE FUN OUT OF THEM.
At lowto mediumspeeds, Active Steering
transmits steering input more directly. The
response is very precise, making the BMW
agile and manoeuvrable.
At higher speeds, the steering ratio is less
direct. This ensures, for instance, precise
tracking stability on the motorway, making
for especially safe steering movements.
Not for ActiveHybrid X.
Not available for ActiveHybrid X. This model features
electro-mechanical steering which provides optimal
steering assistance in both electric and combustion
engine mode.

The optional Adaptive Headlights register when you are turning into a bend or driving
through hollows or over crests. The swivelling and vertically adjustable headlights follow
the direction of steering and optimally illuminate the line of the curve.
The high-strength steel passenger cell offers optimum rigidity and protection. It boasts
additional reinforcement in critical areas for maximum safety. In the event of a collision,
continuous headairbags, a driver and front passenger airbag and two side airbags in the
front minimise the risk of injury.
The BMWX6offersyouandyour passengers outstandingall-round protection. Awealthof intelligent
systems ensure maximumsafety at all times, while you enjoy the driving pleasure. The Adaptive
Headlights with variable light distribution includingturning lights provide increased active safety in
the dark or poor light conditions. This technologyfeatures horizontally pivoting headlights which
provide optimumillumination of corners as soon asyou steer intothem. Sensors recordthe steering
angle, yawrate and speed. Electric motors then turn the Xenon headlights as required, providing
better illuminationof thefull corner. Inaddition, whendrivingthroughhollows or over crests, thebeam
is automatically adjustedvertically. The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systemalso guarantees

strengthmulti-phasesteels has allowedour engineers tocreate anextremelystable passenger cell
offering occupants exceptional safety in an impact. In a frontal collision, a pre-defined deformation
area converts impact energyintodeformationbefore it reaches the passenger cell. Ina rear impact,
thestrengthenedbodyalsoenhances safety, as numerous crashtests haveconfirmed. High-strength
structural reinforcement has beenintegratedintoall four doors toprotect the passengers ina side-on
collision and reduces intrusions into the passenger cell as far as possible. Occupants are also
protected by optimally coordinated restraint systems such as seat belts and six airbags which
increase safety invirtually all accident scenarios. The head airbag systemprevents occupants in all
seats from hitting the side windows or the object the car has collided with, and offers full-length
protectionfromshatteredglass.
The three-point seat belt systemon all seats (with additional integral pyrotechnical belt tensioners
andbelt-force limiters onthefront seats) provides optimumrestraint inall types of accident. Plus, the
rollover sensor evaluates data supplied bythe DSCsystemand, in the event of the car rolling over,
can trigger passive safety systems such as the head airbag system, belt tensioners and active
headrests. At the end of the day, driving pleasure is the only thingthat should make your heart beat

Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function. Optional, for added convenience and active safety in stop-and-go trafc. The
systemmeasures the gap to the vehicle ahead on an ongoing basis and automatically maintains an appropriate distance. Once the
lane ahead becomes free, the systemaccelerates again up to the desired speed.
Park Distance Control, rear view camera and Top View. The optional Park Distance Control (PDC) uses optical and acoustic
signals to ensure comfortable and safe parking. Top View offers the driver an overview of their surroundings while manoeuvring
the vehicle, via a birds eye view of the BMW on the Control Display. In addition, the rear view camera provides a better view
when youre reversing at under km/h or parking.
BMWConnected App*. For the rst time, you can now use apps in your BMW. With the Apps option, an iPhone and the free
BMWConnected App fromthe Apple App Store, youre no longer limited to just listening to local radio, your calendar is with
you all the time and youre always in contact with your friends. Using the iDrive system, you can easily select web radio stations

The BMW X6 is an extremely accommodating
vehicle. The only thing not welcome here is
limitation. The luggage compartment offers
570 litres of space (ActiveHybrid X6: 470 litres).
And the 60 : 40 split/folding rear seats expand
boot capacity to as much as 1,450 litres
(ActiveHybrid X6: 1,350). This makes the
BMW X6 open to any undertaking and allows
it to swallow up even bulky items of luggage or
sport equipment e.g. up to four golf bags.
The practical luggage compartment cover can
even be stowed away in the boot oor. And
there is an optional package that allows more
secure equipment storage. This is a coup
whose generous space has been thought out
down to the last detail.

BMW PERFORMANCE.
Headlight washing system provides
optimal illumination of the road ahead
in all weather conditions. Headlights are
automatically cleaned in parallel with
the windscreen when the lights are on.
Xenon headlights for high and low beam
incl. automatic headlight range control and
headlight washing system, for much better
illumination of the road ahead in bad weather,
at night or in poor visibility. The four light rings
offer a daytime driving light function, and can
also be used as parking lights.
Fog lights in free-form technology,
integrated in the front air dam, ensure extra
safety in poor visibility.
Lights package includes rear reading lights,
rear footwell lights, indirectly lit door pockets,
exit lights and vicinity lighting in the outside
door handles (with comfort access option).
This ensures that the area around the door is
evenly lit when the door is unlocked, making
getting in and out easy and safe.
Dynamic Braking Lights make it easier for
drivers following from behind to see how hard
you are applying the brakes. If you are braking
normally, the brake lights cover a large area,
but only during emergency braking do the brake
lights start to flash. This allows following traffic
to distinguish between a slight tap on the
brakes and full braking for even greater safety
on the road.
Adaptive headlights with variable light
distribution, incl. turning lights, optimally
illuminate bends by swivelling headlights as
soon as the driver turns the steering wheel.
The beam is also automatically adjusted
vertically when, for instance, driving over
crests or through hollows. The turning lights
in the fog lights are automatically activated
even at a standstill, when the indicator is used
or with a steering lock of over 10 degrees.
High-beam assistant aids the driver at
night by automatically switching from high
to low beam.

Roof railing, matt black: the roof railing
is also available in black to lend an individual
touch to the exterior of the BMW X6.

integrated with the cars design, it provides
a base for the multifunctional BMW roof carrier

Sun-protection glazing* for the rear side

These tinted windows reduce sun glare and
ensure a pleasant temperature inside the car

Soft Close Automatic: an electric motor pulls

lane and alerts the driver by making the steering
wheel vibrate.
M leather steering wheel, three-spoke,
incl. multifunction buttons and uni-directional
gearshift paddles. A simple pull of the left paddle
downshifts, a pull on the right changes up.
Controller: various functions can be activated
from the Control Display using this rotary/push
button. Four menus can also be called up using
direct menu control buttons: CD, radio, navigation
and telephone. The other three buttons Menu,
Option and Back make for easier operation.
Functional bookmarks: with these buttons,
the driver and passenger can save their most
frequently used navigation, audio (e.g. certain
radio stations or CD tracks) or telephone
functions on eight separate buttons for rapid
access.
Control Display with TFT screen (6.5",
colour). Shows the functions activated by the
Controller (e.g. on-board computer or radio).
In conjunction with the optional Navigation
system Professional* or with the TV function,
the screen measures 8.8".
TV function allows you to use the Control
Display as a television when the vehicle is
stationary. Both analogue and digital (DVB-T)
channels broadcast by terrestrial stations
can be received.
Auxiliary heating with remote control,
ideal in winter and in cold weather. When you
step into your vehicle, the windscreen is
already free of ice and the interior is pleasantly
warm (not available for ActiveHybrid X6).
Navigation system Professional* with

shows the rear and side areas of the vehicle on
the Control Display. Interactive track lines

Side View provides a view of traffic when
pulling out of exits and junctions with restricted
visibility. Two cameras are integrated in the side of

Park Distance Control (PDC), front

manoeuvring easier. The distance between
the car and the nearest obstacle is signalled
acoustically as well as visually in the Control

restraint height, exterior mirrors and steering
column feature a memory function (only
available in conjunction with leather upholstery).
Two rear seats, with sporty, individual
character (not adjustable) and integral head-
restraints. The seats also come with a fold-out
centre armrest and two cupholders in the rear
centre console.
Five-seat configuration is available on
request. It features three head-restraints in the
rear, three-point seatbelts for all seats and
integrated belt catches for the outer seats.

console.
Ski bag for clean and safe transport of up to
four pairs of skis with up to four occupants in
the car. Whenever the ski bag is not required, it
remains stored conveniently and out of sight
behind the centre armrest.
Seat heating at the rear: same as the
electric heating of the drivers and front
passengers seats, with heating in two stages,
available in conjunction with leather upholstery.
DVD system in the rear offers an independently
controllable DVD player with a fold-down
8" colour screen. The system can be operated
by wireless remote control, has sockets for
two headphones and a video source, and is
compatible with infrared headphones. In
conjunction with the TV function, the same
TV programme can be viewed simultaneously
on the front (at a standstill) and rear screens.

Comfort access system for opening and
locking the vehicle without holding the remote
control. The engine can be started without the
key using the Start/Stop button (standard on
ActiveHybrid X6). This system also includes
advance door handle illumination.
Runflat indicator minimises the possible
repercussions of a tyre defect. Comparing
wheel rotation speed, the system determines
changes in air pressure in one or several tyres
and warns the driver via Check/Control.
Tyre Pressure Control (TPC) uses sensors
to monitor air pressure in the tyres at any speed.
A slight loss in pressure is indicated by a light; a
significant loss in pressure additionally triggers
an acoustic warning (only on ActiveHybrid X6).
Hill Descent Control (HDC) enables your
BMW to take even steep downhill gradients
safely and automatically without the need for
you to apply the brakes. With the speed control
with braking function, you can also change your
speed using the drop arm in the lower left area
of the cockpit.
Runflat tyres: reinforced sidewalls mean
that the tyres do not totally collapse without
pressurised air, so they cannot become
unseated from the rims. At a maximum of 80
km/h you can still travel up to 150 km.
Hill-Start assistant stops the car rolling
downhill for 1.5 seconds once the footbrake is
released when making hill starts.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) incl.
DTC and enhanced functions for optimising
braking and driving stability. DSC detects any
risk of swerving and stabilises the car within
fractions of a second. The traction mode sub-
function (DTC) enables increased wheel
slip, in order to perfectly adapt forward thrust
to every situation, for a more athletic drive.
Brake Assistant provides brake
assistance by building up maximum brake
pressure in an emergency even if the driver
fails to properly depress the brake pedal,
significantly shortening the stopping distance
in the process.
Telescopic steering wheel with crash
element made of steel to improve driver
protection in case of a collision. In a crash, the
upper end of the steering column (spindle) is
retracted by 80 mm given a certain impact
force.
The airbags and all further safety
components are perfectly coordinated in a
BMW. This means that, in a collision, only the
airbag actually required will be activated. Six
airbags offer targeted protection: driver and
front passenger airbags, head airbags as well
as side airbags at the front.
The rollover sensor is linked up to the
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system for
better and faster recognition of dangerous
situations. Should an overturn occur, the
airbags and belt tensioners are immediately
triggered to ensure maximum passive safety.
Body rigidity: the beam distribution and
node connections of the vehicles highly
functional body structure, and the strategic use
of high-rigidity materials, result in maximum
passive safety in front, lateral or rear collisions.
The rigid structure also makes an essential
contribution to the rewardingly dynamic drive.
Bumpers: high-rigidity material in the bumper mounts mean that the body
structure can absorb impacts at up to 15 km/h without damage.
Trailer stability control automatically
recognises when a trailer being towed starts
to sway and applies the brakes to stabilise it,
lowering speed until the swaying stops (in
conjunction with trailer tow hitch).
Adaptive Headlights with variable light
distribution and vertical adjustment, incl.
turning lights with moveable headlight units for
optimum illumination of each upcoming bend
as soon as the driver turns the steering wheel.
The result is extra driving safety in the dark and
in poor visibility. The turning lights are
automatically activated even at a standstill,
when the indicator is used or with a steering
lock of over 10 degrees up to 40 km/h.
Active headrests in the front move forward
to reduce the distance from the occupants
head in the event of a collision, thus limiting the
risk of possible injuries to the neck vertebrae.
