Praise God!
God is worthy of our praise at all times and in all circumstances, but sometimes we are reminded of His goodness and love in such a strong way that we cant help but praise Him.

Adam Faughn
Also, Greg Houston came forward, stating that he had been battling very deep levels of depression lately, and needed some encouragement to keep going. For each of these, we are thankful. It was also touching to see the outpouring of love at the conclusion of our service, when it looked like a logjam to try to get to these friends to offer hugs and words of encouragement! But, as we were reminded in the prayer led by Wayne Davidson, what truly made a moment like this special is that God cares for us and is willing to help us. He is the One we praise, and for His love and presence in our lives, we are so thankful! Other things happened last Sunday that were encouraging as well. Our VBS planning committee met and did a great job. We have our theme, nightly subjects/stories, and Biblical texts to study. I am grateful for their hard work and the positive attitude and desire to serve that they put into these decisions. Our theme for 2012s VBS will be Come to the Feast.

Worship With Us Sunday: Worship 9 AM & 6 PM * Bible Classes 10:20 AM Wednesday: Bible Classes 7 PM

Such was the case last Sunday, when three individuals responded to the Lords invitation, seeking prayers of comfort and encouragement. Following an excellent sermon by JD Buckner, these souls saw the need for strength and were courageous enough to step out and make their needs known. Al Cravens stated that he has been going through several struggles and desired prayers for encouragement to keep going. Al is a faithful member at Lebanon Road who serves in many areassome well-known, and many behind-the-scenes. He is a good example to so many, and we are thankful for his heart. Heather Wilson also responded, stating that she has been going through a storm in this life, specifically dealing with her marriage to Adam. She asked that we pray for her and for him as they go through this extremely troubling time.

Another good thing that happened last week was the beginning of the class discussing Christianity vs. Islam, taught by another of our elders, Joe Adams. Though I am teaching another class, I was able to listen to the class later, and the information is well-researched and presented very effectively. I am thankful for brother Adams for teaching this class, and Im thankful for our technology gurus, who are making these classes available on our website, so they may be heard by others. Finally, it is always encouraging to be present when our young men lead the services, as they did last Sunday night. Each who leads does a fine job, and it is apparent that they are growing in their ability to lead. One of the things I find most encouraging is looking down at the front pew and seeing a seat filled with young men ready to serve. Little pictures like that are ones that I like to file away, as they build my hope for the continued growth and maturity of the Lords Church wherever these young men may end up in this world.

May we praise God when we remember Sundays like last week. He is worthy of all our praise! Today, we will begin a three-part lesson that is designed to give an overview of the story of the Bible. This morning, we will overview the Old Testament in a sermon called The Old Testament Story in 30 Minutes. Lord willing, we will discuss the 400 silent years between the Old and New Testaments next Sunday morning, then close on February 19 by looking at 27 Books in 25 Minutes. As we go Back to the Basics this year, I felt these overview sermons might be helpful to us all, so that we can then dig more deeply into Gods Word. I hope to see you this morning (as my friend Andy Kizer says), With a Bible in your hand and a friend by your side.

HARVEST TIME
Say not ye, there are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? Behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest (John 4:35). When harvest time comes, where is the farmer that does not want to harvest more crops? He wants the most that he can possibly reap. Else why plant? Jesus is interested in more people. He is not satisfied with just twelve or any particular number, but is interested in every soul. He left the ivory palaces of heaven to seek and save the lost. And this is what he wants his disciples to do. The church of the first century was busy with the task of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. As one reads the New Testament he learns of those preaching the gospel everywhere, and that multitudes of people were saved by obedience to the gospel (Acts 2, 8, 9, 10, 16, 18, 19). It seems that a fresh look at these New Testament Christians shows that they were obsessed with the work (Festus thought the apostle Paul was mad Acts 26:24). They just wouldnt quit! Even under persecutions, they continued to seek for more people. First and foremost on their minds was souls, souls, and more souls! It seems that they really understood the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:47; John 20:21; and all of Acts). It seems the more I preach on evangelism and hear others speak on this topic, the more I hear, Not everyone can teach someone else! God didnt give me that talent! I cant help but think how hollow this will sound to Jesus in the judgment. He is the one who died for my sins. (Corda L. Underwood, Evangelist)

Thank you
Thank you so much for the many birthday cards, Christmas cards and notes of encouragement I continue to receive. It means a great deal to receive mail especially during the holidays. No matter where my journeys take me I always consider Lebanon Road my home. Jon Vannatta

JDs Jargon
Hello everyone, These weeks have seen a lot of activity for our members, the youth group, and the ministers. Five of the students and myself attended the youth rally at the Bethel congregation this past Saturday. We worked on talking about our faith to others around us and on taking time to commune with our God alone. It was a really beneficial day. The greatest part of the day was getting to be around our group and strengthening our bond one to another. I am very proud of the young men who lead in service last Sunday evening. Many of the young men stepped out of their comfort zones by reading long sections of Scripture and leading in prayers. They did a great job and their service makes me admire our students so much! The Valentine's service project is Saturday, February 11 at 10 AM. I hope all the youth group will come and help with this event. Please pray for Adam and I as we attend the Freed-Hardeman Lectureship this next week. The lectures at FHU are a great spiritual replenishment to Adam and me every year. Please continue to pray for those who are hurting among us, especially those battling cancer. Thank you very much! -- JD :)
