1. Define a. Data: qualitative or quantitative attributes of a variable or set of

variables
b. Field : are used to hold a specific type of information c. Record: this is a group of data put together by fields d. File: Is a compilation of data and information that can be opened

to be examined or edited. 2. Data redundancy is when there is duplicate data created by independent data files. A cause of this is when one file looks to another for data in a field.
3. When it is possible to make changes in data storage characteristics

without affecting an applications ability to access the data. It is lacking because file systems are made so that all information is relatable, this makes it necessary that the information must match up so that data can still be accessed
4. DBMS is a database management system. A DBMS controls the maintenance, creation, and use of databases. 5. It is when changes to a flies structure do not affect an applications

ability to access data. This is important so that one change be made to one file rather than needing to be made to all files that access it. 6. Information is the combination of data to find a real meaning of the data.
7. An advantage is that it eliminates inconsistencies, data anomalies,

data dependence, and structural dependence problems. Disadvantage4s would include, complexity, costs, qualified personnel, and lower efficiency

8.

a. Desktop database: single user b. Workgroup database: multi User c. Enterprise database: more than 50 users
d. Centralized database: single site e. Distributed database: several sites 9. A a. Hardware b. Software c. People 10.Data about data 11.Design is important because all of the information in a database needs to be organized in a way that will allow access to all the data in a database and to make it easy to navigate 12.Maintaining Hardware, software, and personal as well as training, licensing and regulation compliance. 13.An example of unstructured data would be, having a file with the names of all a company's employees. A structured data would have the name, address, age, position, and many other pieces of information all in one file. Because of this I would say most have structured data 14.A spreadsheet just holds data and can only use that information. A database has many sets of information and can access it all and use all of it together. 15.The biggest problem will be that the all the spreadsheets will be made with a different format of information. 16.The biggest loss would have to be that the information is not nearly as customizable as it was when it could be written in anyway possible.
