OBJECTIVES There are a few objectives for this Cultural Changes exhibition :  To investigate the changes in Malaysian Culture

which are traditional and modern games.  To know the differences of traditional and modern games in Malaysia.  To analyze the interest in modern and traditional games among students in IPG Campus Rajang.

QUESTIONS 1. What is the meaning of culture change in term of Malaysian Games Culture? 2. What are the differences between modern games and traditional games played in Malaysia? 3. When searching about the games culture, the students in IPG Campus Rajang mostly choose traditional or modern games? 4. Are the traditional games in Malaysia was longer forgotten among people nowadays?

CONCLUSION As the conclusion for our research, we found that there are a few differences of games in Malaysia. The differences between traditional games and modern games played by the community in Malaysia shows the culture changes occur. Based on the topic given to our group, which is culture change, we had zoomed our topic into the Malaysian games because it is easier for people to understand about the topic. Majority choose to play modern games because it is more popular among them and this to show that they are up-todate as they are adapted them from western country. However, there are a few steps to ensure the Malaysian culture do not forgotten by the next generation as the government asked the teachers to teach about the Malaysian traditional games in school. Hopefully, by conducting a few steps to maintain the traditional games in Malaysia will make the next generation still apply the traditional games in their life.

INTRODUCTION As we were given a task on our social studies, we discussed and finally choose the title Games Culture in Malaysia. We found that there are traditional and modern games played in Malaysia. For the culture change theme, we analyze the differences between traditional and modern communication. Besides, we had conducted a survey among students in IPG Campus Rajang on their interest in playing Malaysian games. After analyzed and find the information, we are able to exhibit the culture change occur in Malaysia which are specified into games played in Malaysia.

ABSTRACT Culture change is such as the attitudes, values, aspirations and sense of selfefficacy which influence behavior. Cultural capital is itself influenced by behavior over time. From this meaning we know that every community experience culture change, so do Malaysian. There is various kind of culture in Malaysia and one of them is games. Games played in Malaysia can be divided into two which are traditional and modern games. Nowadays, people rather choose to play modern games such as video games than playing traditional games like gasing and wau. The research has been conducted to observe the interest of laying traditional games among students. As the result, students prefer modern games and some of them did not practice playing traditional games since they were young. This cause by the surrounding factors such as they lived in urban area and exposed by the modern games only. However, a few steps taken to ensure that the Malaysian traditional games will not forget by the community as these games can be practice by the next generation.

STEPS TO MAINTAIN TRADITIONAL GAMES IN MALAYSIA There are a few steps to maintain traditional games in Malaysia that can be conducted:  Organizing competition among students in school.  Teachers should teach the students about the traditional games in their syllabus.  Organizing an exhibition about the culture games in Malaysia.  The role of the mass media to advertise the Malaysian culture in television or radio.  Parents should expose traditional games to their children since they are young.

TRADITIONAL AND MODERN GAMES IN MALAYSIA DEFINITION:

 TRADITIONAL: Of or pertaining to tradition; derived from tradition;


communicated from ancestors to descendants by word only; transmitted from age to age without writing; as, traditional opinions; traditional customs; traditional expositions of the Scriptures.

 GAMES: something that played by people commonly children whether it is


indoor or outdoor games.

 MODERN: time belonging to the present time or most recent time.

Traditional Games When we talk about traditional, normally it will refer to the culture of certain communities. In Malaysia, traditional games only practice by our ancestors because now, people do not practice traditional games anymore as the development had been achieve. The examples of traditional games are gasing, wau, guli, sepak raga, ting-ting, congkak and a few more. The games can be divided into indoor and outdoor games. Commonly, the children will play the games during evening. At rural area or village, we can see people play the games at the field. For indoor games, children might play the games such as congkak and seremban at the balcony of their house.

Modern Games As our country reach urbanization, there are lots of new games introduced. Most of them adapted from the western country. Development in technologies had changed our culture a lot. Every place that we go, we will see people with their gadgets while playing video games inside the gadgets. Majority choose to play video games in their hand phone than playing gasing that make them exhausted. For them, playing angry birds game is more exciting that playing gasing that will make them suffer from sweats.

ANALYSIS After conducting a survey among students in this campus, we found that majority choose modern games than traditional games. This is because playing modern games is easier and more interesting than traditional games. Most of them give their opinion that traditional games only played in rural area as the place for the games is more suitable than in urban area. Even there are quite a lot of them do not know much about the traditional games, but they still have a little knowledge about the games. However, playing modern games attract people more than traditional games. Fortunately, they still want to participate if there are any competitions for traditional games. This shows that they still want to practice the traditional games if they are asked to do so.
