FOREWORD

In the globalizing world with education being internationalized, many families want their children to achieve national academic targets, in order to have a good application for scholarship in the top universities all over the world. Each year the students in grade 6, 7, 8, 9 could participate in some famous competitions that are about Mathematics in English. Asia Pacific Mathematical Olympiad for Primary Schools (APMOPS) is a prestigious Mathematics competition for students in grade 6, 7. It is organized annually and consists of 2 rounds for nations in the Asia Pacifica region. Each year in Vietnam, approximately 120 prizes are awarded for students taking part in the First Round. In the 3 years 2009, 2010, 2011, Lighting Viets Intellects Club has trained many students who get the APMOPS prizes including 11 Platinum Award, 23 Gold Award, 28 Silver Award, 42 Bronze Award. Among these students are the three top scoring students Cao Hai Nam, Hoang Minh Tue and Nguyen Hoai Nam in respective years. The International Mathematical Contest (IMC) grade 7, 8, 10 was organized first in 7/2011 in for students in

Bali, Indonesia . In this

contest, 3 Vietnamese teams with the training of teacher Tran Phuong have achieved a Runner up and Second Runner up Team Award, 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal and 4 Bronze Medals for Individual Award . Moreover, students in grade 8 and 10 can participate in the International Science Olympiad ( ISO), Hanoi Open Mathematical 3

Olympiad ( HMO ), Singaporean Mathematical Olympiad ( SMO ), or the standard assessment used as entry to American universities (SAT), To help students prepare for these contests, we proudly introduces the book: APMOPS Contests Collection . The book is divided into 3 main parts: Part I: Introduction of APMOPS contests. Part II: Solutions for the APMOPS contests (English Vietnamese) Part III: Introduction of some contests from nations in the Asia Pacific region. The book is displayed in 2 languages English and Vietnamese, so as to help students not only learn mathematical knowledge but also English. About answers and solutions, we do not provide the best solutions but give the opportunity for readers creativity in direct teaching. Some easy problems we only provide answers and some hints without solving in details. In completing the book, we have received efforts from contributors Cao Hai Nam, Hoang Minh Tue (student of term 1 at Lighting Viets Intellects Club, Platinum Award APMOPS 2010) when translating some problems between Vietnamese and English. Despite our many efforts, the book is not without errors in this first edition. We appreciate your comments on it to improve the next edition version. All comments and feedbacks may be sent to
