CONTENT ANALYSIS

The features some sections, in which every section we can find some different objectives toward the development of the students. These sections are designed to enrich the students knowledge and learning experiences based on the topic within every chapter. Those sections are divided into 12 sections as shown bellow. 1. Chapter Title It displays the title theme of every chapter. By knowing the theme, the students would have some view about what they are going to learn. It also helps students to set their mind-map according to the theme/topic as their preparation for facing the learning process. 2. Materials Youre Going To Learn This section mentions the main subject in every chapter that students are going to learn. Every learning process are hopefully focused on these materials so the objectives that the teachers try to achieve could be fulfilled. 3. Log On Since the curriculum used in our nowadays-education system is KTSP, which is placed the teachers as the facilitator, this section will help the teachers to enrich the students knowledge through internet access. It

increases the students ability in both English skill and information technology mastery. 4. New Horizon This section will help students to enrich their knowledge related to the material given in the book. The learning material will be wellunderstood by reading this section. 5. Follow Up Activity In this section, students will do some activities to practice the whole materials they have studied. 6. Grammar Stage It contains some grammatical theories that become the focus of each chapter. Each chapter contains some different grammatical theories that compiled systematically in order to achieve the simultaneous understanding for students. 7. Learning Essential The learning essential is simply another term to conclusion. It provides the conclusion from materials that students have learnt from the beginning of the chapter till the end. 8. Learning Review This learning review is designed in the form of questions to measure the students ability and mastery about the whole materials. 9. Un Challenge In this section, students will be given some question forms which usually appear in the National Final Examination. It can help students to be accustomed in answering the National Final-Examination questions. 10. Exercise of Chapters It usually stands from some questions containing the learning materials from some chapters. Its aims are to measure the students ability in mastering the previous materials before they go on to the next chapter. 11. Final Evaluation

The final evaluation is a section for measuring students ability about the whole chapters of the book. It contains some questions based on the materials which have learnt by students in every chapter before. 12. Glossary The glossary takes a very important role in helping students to understand every chapters content. It contains list of words that might be helpful for students in comprehension.

C. Significance Based on our analysis about this books contents, we finally find some significances of this book as shown bellow. 1. In the beginning of every chapter, we can find the goals/objectives which become the focuses of the learning. Knowing such goals/objectives, both teachers and students will get easier techniques to master the materials for they were illustrated at the very beginning of the chapter. It also keeps teachers and students in order to stay on the right direction of the learning process. 2. The contents of the book are arranged systematically based on the Competence Standard (Standar Kompetensi) and The Basic

Competence (Kompetensi Dasar) that shown on the syllabi. 3. The book contents 100 per cent-students activities that draw the students activeness in the learning process. Teachers will participate in the learning process as the facilitators and guides to direct the students in doing the classroom activities. The activities given by book will help students to meet their own independence in learning experience. 4. Especially for listening section, the book provides the listening script that both students and teachers are going to need when they would like to focus in increasing the listening skill. 5. Since the book features some sections that content not only the English materials, but also the general knowledge; it will broaden the students

knowledge beyond the English language theory, such as the information about Economy, Botany, Geography, Politics,

Bureaucracy, and etc. 6. The book has already covered the four-basic skills of English language which are integrated within each chapter. The learning materials are implemented in those four skills to bring the high level of English proficiency for students. 7. The price of the book is cheap since it is a BSE book that has provided by The National Ministry of Education (Kementerian Pendidikan Nasional). You can even download it from the internet.

D. Deficiency 1. Since the book is designed to make students active and stand-alone in doing every single activity, it may grow some minor difficulties to the students whose English proficiency is in the low level, especially for teachers who teach in the countryside. Generally, the countryside inhabitants are low-motivated in learning English. This case might bring the low students intake in English learning. 2. The passage of the reading section in this book tends to provide the long text with many complicated words. It grammatical structures also somewhat difficult to the students (see English in Focus for Grade VIII page: 62, 92, 115, etc.) 3. The material for English theory is not very detail. It can cause the students confusion when they are trying to answer the questions, especially the ones that frequently appear in the National Final Examination.

E. Book Criticism The book seems almost perfect due to its completeness. But there are some points that the writers would like to criticize. They are:

1. The book seems not able to be used in any learning process both in the developed school or developing school in general. This book provides quite difficult dictions that probably cause the students confusion in comprehending this book. There for it is only recommended for teaching students with high proficiency level. 2. The passage of the reading written in this book quite long with the complex grammatical structure. It could lead the student into boredom. Therefore, it is advisable for the teachers to replace the reading passage with the short and easy text. 3. The book provides incomplete explanation about grammar, functional skills skill and writing theory.

F. Suggestion After analyzing this book, we finally suggest that this book is highly recommended for building the active-classroom environment. It is also advisable for English teaching in schools that located in the developed area, such as a big city like Praya, Mataram, Selong. It is not recommended using this book for the schools whose students with low motivation, low students intake, and low students proficiency in English. Nevertheless, those descriptions are conditional. In this case, the teachers as the only person who know better about the condition of their student than anyone else, should measure the students ability and decide which book should be used as the handbook of the English learning process. And for the sake of getting further detail information, we recommend you to read the point A to C.

Conclusion After analyzing the book, we can conclude that the book is almost perfect for the ideal learning process. The book seems able to activate students with the provided activities within this book. This also help the teacher to be a real facilitator as what as the curriculumKTSPrequires.

Although the book has many goods, but there are some points that could lead the students into confusion. Those points must be noticed and draw the teachers attention in order to make the students stay comfortable in learning process. As what as the writers mention in point D, that those deficiencies draw the teachers attention for the effectiveness of the teaching.
