4. The London Consortium

Forms for the London Consortium are to be returned to AHRC Applications, London Consortium, 24 Litchfield Street, London, WC2H 9NJ 5. This form is used to consider applications for studentships awarded by the Schools
of Arts, Law and Social Sciences, History and Philosophy. These include studentships funded by the College as well as those funded by those Research Colleges which have been delegated to the College. Applicants for funding should also ensure that they have completed a programme application form; the admissions process is separate to the process for the awarding of studentships. Criteria of eligibility may vary between Schools or even Departments; applicants should check on the appropriate website for individual studentships. 6. A Research Studentship may be awarded by the College on the recommendation of a Schools Graduate Committee to a candidate with an outstanding academic record who shows high research potential. 7. The terms and conditions of Studentships differ depending on the source of funding; further guidance will be made available to successful nominees once applications have been considered. 8. Awards may be made for full-time or part-time study and to Home, EU or International students, dependent on the source of funding 9. Candidates will normally possess at least an upper second class honours degree or equivalent, and a Masters Degree or equivalent. 10. Candidates must apply on the form provided. Applications should be submitted directly to the Schools as advised above. 11. Candidates should consult the School for the deadline for applications

12. Candidates must submit both a college application (for a place on the programme)
and the application for a Research Studentship by 6th February 2012. 13. Award holders are expected to complete their research degree normally within four years in the case of a full-time student, and within seven years in the case of a part-time student. 14. The School, the supervisor and the student should be fully aware of their responsibilities under Birkbecks Code of Practice for Postgraduate Training and Supervision.
