The Clinton Democratic Club kicked off 2012 with civic leaders from Northeast Queens giving updates about their clubs and community concerns. Tyler Cassell, President of the North Flushing Civic Association, spoke about last weeks Community Board 7s monthly meeting. Many of our Clinton Democratic Club members also serve on Community Board 7, including President Paul Vallone, Chuck Apelian, Tyler Cassell, Warren Schreiber, and Joe Femenia. Mr. Cassell explained why the Board voted unanimously to reject the proposed variances that would have allowed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to double the size of their new Church and avoid existing zoning regulations. Peter Brancazio, President of the Northeast Flushing Civic Association, also spoke against the proposed variances. His club has also been fighting against abandoned lots in our community and assisted the Auburndale library in recently renovating the entrance to the library. Joe Femenia, President of the College Point Civic Association, encouraged fellow members to stay involved in local civic organizations. Finally, Warren Schreiber, President of the Bay Terrace Community Alliance, explained how the Parks Department owes $7 million for previously approved renovations and the citys proposed tax increases for coops and condos. Each President was treated to the Clinton Club Kids singing their hearts out as parents, leaders, and children alike stood with President Paul Vallone to welcome the New Year.
