Write a short play in which the central tension rests upon a problem of language. Be sue also to include a brief explanation of the problem you selected and how you chose to develop the problem. The Tourist American tourist enters a travel agency called INTI RAYMI wishing to buy a ticket to Machu Picchu. The only person inside the office is the young assistant of the manager Jose Mamaurta. Jose doesnt speak English. Mr. Robert (American tourist): Hi, I would like to buy a trip to Machu Picchu. My friends recommend me your tourism agency, due to your quality of service. Im really excited! I have heard wonderful things about your country! Jose Mamaurta - young assistant of the manager of Inti Raymi (using body language): Eh, Yo-dont-speak-Ingles. Mr. Robert: Oh, I see. Is there is someone who speak English here? I tried to call to your agency several times in the morning but there was no one who could answer me. So? Jose Mamaurta (using body language): No-comprendo-you say. Mr. Robert (inside his mind): This should be a good time to use my Spanish lesson. Mr. Robert (using body language): Yo-querer-ticket-to-go-Machu Picchu. Comprende? Jose Mamaurta: Machu Picchu? Oh, Machu Picchu!...tu want travel a Machu Picchu! Mr. Robert: Yes, Yes! Machu Picchu. Im really happy that you understood. Mr. Robert (using body language): Cuanto-cost-ticket-to-Machu Picchu? Jose Mamaurta (using body language): 400 dollars... Mr. Robert: Wow, its really expensive! Hmm... Mr. Robert (using body language): mas-cheaper? Jose Mamaurta: 300, mister.

Mr. Robert (using body language): Very-good. I-will-pay ticket. Brief Explanation: Nowadays, English is a require subject in many countries. English has become the language that most people uses all over the world. Today, English has become useful in many different aspects of life (outside and inside English-speaking countries). This play shows the interaction between a non-English speaker and an English speaker, who is trying to purchase a ticket to a touristic site (Machu Picchu). This play is an example of how the barrier of language can be an obstacle for both persons to communicate effectively and understand each other message; plus, make business. If there is no effective way of communication in the business field, there would not be any businesses. For international business, speaking multiple languages is vital. In this case, the business between the tourist and the agency assistant would almost never succeed if the body language wasnt use. Besides the phonetic language, there is the body language. The body language in this play, plays an important role. Body language is universal and its one of the best alternative ways to communicate with other people, if the barrier of language cannot be overcome. Body language is a support of the phonetic language, because it represents what the speaker is saying. If these two types forms of communication combine, any message can be easily translate and interpret. I chose to develop this type of problem of language due to a personal experience while I was visiting Cuzco. While I was in Cusco, a tourist asked me where he could find a certain tourist site. I was 9 years old, and my English was not good. I used Spanglish and body language to made him understand were that tourist site was. In my opinion, trying to speak to a person who speaks a different language is a difficult task (if you do not master the language that the other person is speaking).
