How to set up a new AS400 printer using an existing printer configuration There are several steps involved when

configuring a new printer that is connected to an AS400 via TCP/IP. The first step is to make sure that you have the installation CD that came with the printer. The CD contains the necessary drivers required when adding the printer to all the PCs. The next thing you need to have is and IP address for the device. You will first need to create a device description. The fastest way is to copy an existing configuration and give it a new name. At the command line do a CRTDEVPRT to create the device description, for example PRT01. Enter the Device Description Device class, type, model of printer and type of attachment. Then do a WRKCFGSTS *DEV and use option 2 to edit the device description. Note: Before making changes to ANY of the devices, make sure that the device(s) are varied off completely as this will more problems. To change an existing device description, at the command line do WRKDEVD *ALL and then select the particular printer device to change using option 2 as shown below.

If you are copying an existing device description, put a 3 in the option field then hit <enter>. You will then be prompted to enter the new Device description name. Enter all the necessary information, and change the IP address to the new address.
