The Craftsmen Association of Slovenia ART&CRAFT SLO was born in 1997, paused for a short period and eventually got back on its feet on 29th of January 2004 even stronger and enriched with more experience. Our members come from all around Slovenia and from abroad. ZRS ART&CRAFT SLO is an organization uniting artists, designers, home and handicraftsmen, employees in culture and many other sympathizers to whom cultural heritage, with stress on exceptional successful and internationally recognized individuals, is not unknown.

Intelligent apiculture honeycomb screw press honey. When it makes its first flow its about honey dough. Figured biscuits, honey dough, honey cakes and honey pastries a delicious passion of dainty lovers. Honey that flows as second; it is about honey figures, rose bushes, horses, dollies, twins and of course lect hearts. With gelatine glaze coloured in parti-colour and bright red shades. Skilfully decorated with potato flour. And with a touching verse as a material proof of love that a boy devotes to a girl. Third pressing gives mead a refreshing nonalcoholic beverage, witch is with addition of spices, hops, propolis, euphorbia and pollen made into an alcoholic drink honey wine ol (old Slovene beverage). Also, a very strong honey drink flows out with an excellent natural aroma. And finally, honeycomb is further cleaned, boiled up, solidified and under the sun whitened into wax homemade beeswax for candles and votive figures. Thats lect craft. But this craft has always been about symbiosis of two activities that linked the two essential ingredients honey and wax thus mead production and chandlery. The word lect comes from a German word zelten, which means a shallow cake, but in Slovenia we use a fine term strdenje hardening. Mead production is a very rare still preserved arts craft also dedicated to chandlery since we go hand in hand with bees. Among others, we introduce you to the sole European mead producer and lectar whose tradition goes back to 1757. He received numerous awards at home and abroad and his products were also used for Slovene post stamps.

The energy heart symbolises the truth, goodness, beauty and love which are the quest of each and every man they are the quest for the heart. Only human can possess these virtues. In science, the heart is made of two shapes LINGAM, which are placed one against the other to form the shape of the heart. The left side represents the human heart, and the right one is a symbol of Gods heart or the heart of Jesus Christ. These two symbolic shapes must unite from the two into ONE. When a human reaches this one, he reaches God or he self-realizes. The spiral energy that circulates in the shape of spiral graph symbolises kundalini energy, which is needed for self-realization. SYMBOLISM IS EDUCATIONAL AND A RELEVATION OF HUMAN SECRET The Energy heart double heart in a heart was presented to the President of Slovenia - Mr. Milan Kuan, the Slovene Custodian of Human Rights - Mr. Matja Hanek, the American President - Mr. George Bush, the Russian President - Mr. Vladimir Putin, the pope James Paul II. and to many others The making of the ENERGY HEART DOUBLE HEART IN A HEART was entrusted to master-mead-lect and chandlery workshop of PERGER Bogoljub, Leonora, Hrabroslav, Botjan and Lucian from Slovenj Gradec whos known around the world by its tradition since 1757 and its products. Contemporary design and researches were performed by OSKAR KOGOJ in Putthaparthiy, India, 1999-2000. Develop a loving, true, pure and a good heart thats the challenge for piece on earth.
Oskar Kogoj, our world recognized designer has designed packaging for a recognized house of mead production-lectar and chandler tradition since 1757 for their excellent non-alcoholic mead, honey brandy, honey wine (old Slovene beverage OLL), diverse honey and many other products.

The Chinese were the first to make paper more than over 1900 years strictly speaking, they invented it. It was brought to Europe by the Arabs. Also in Slovenia were several paper mills, yet all of them decayed, except the one from Fuine in Ljubljana which latter on grew into a huge paper industry along the river Ljubljanica Veve. In this paper mill paper is being made since 1579. Meeting hand made paper is a meeting with centuries of cultural development. Almost everything written in the entire history is preserved on paper. Hand made paper of our creators has therefore even greater worth and meaning used in the traditional role as a carrier of records or as an original material on various fields of design. The basic raw material for paper comes from nature. Many types of todays paper are made of wood material. By recycling waste paper we preserve our forests that today cover almost 60% of Slovenia. Forest growth in Slovenia is the highest in Europe. The symbol of sun is frequently illustrated from the childhood as a circle. In the most cases the symbol of sun is a sun wheel or circular plate. These can be found in human caves from the younger Stone Age and are linked to the symbolism of circle or mandal. Many important civilizations from Egyptians to Inks ascribed to it divine properties or considered it as a personification of the highest god. The regional environmental centre (for Mid and Western Europe), Gospodarski vestnik published in 2003, in cooperation with company Prevent and Johnson Controls, a public competition for most original idea for quality use or remaking of textiles. Among expected results were also inventive artistic creations made of textile waste arising from car seat covers sewing. ALCHEMY originated on the grounds of this public competition and received A GOLD REWARD at the innovation exhibition INOVA 2004 in Zagreb. The artist participated at the exhibition as a chosen of the Institute of innovativeness and technology from Ljubljana. The PAPER is hand made of textile waste arising from car seat covers sewing. From the paper making tradition it is known that already in the beginning of the 2nd century of the Christian area the Chinese realised that paper when made of cloths and other fibre alloys. The artist has preserved the procedure of traditional paper making and used textile waste. The paper serves as a base for making the original graphical sheet.

Water is a liquid without colour, smell and taste. Seemingly a very simple liquid is a source of life and the fundamental component of living beings. An infants body contains 80% of water, while body of an adult 6070 %. Water clock used to be an instrument for measuring time. From an upper vessel water dropped into a lower one. The rising level in the bottom vessel indicated time. We also know spirit level a liquid leveller. Paper processing in the water means dissolving organic matter carrying a message of origin with the presence of living force. The Greeks concluded that all substances are composed of four pre-elements: air, water, fire and soil. At the separation and combining fibres of forming paper the air and water are present. If the paper comes near the fire, it would catch it and turned into a new element the fire. At last there would be ashes the last element: soil.

Curled line is an ancient sign illustrating force and power. This is the sign of eternal energy a man comprehended and experienced already in the pre-history, especially after his existence became entirely dependable of field culture. Curly is yet today the fundamental element of Slovene ornament as the pattern on Idrijska lace. From these elements, left behind by our ancient forefathers Venetts, Oskar Kogoj designed goblets on tendril. This goblet upright curly reminds us of vine and is symbolic. Not only it has a tendril shape, but the vine itself was once named tendril, and this is where the name for wine comes from. Its stylized shape reflects with a portrait of a horse something the nature can not, thus its spiritual nature. It must be acknowledged that the horses stylized shape promptly attracted the artist to try to make a figure of Venetian horse in a supernatural size. This statue has quickly attracted the publics eye, therefore its doubles are set in more places: in front of the Palace of United Nations in Geneva, in the NEBUG complex at the Black sea, in Ljubljana and on the central square in front of the Gallery of Slovenj Gradec. The Venetian horse is made in its miniature of gold-plated porcelain mass or as a goldplated buckle.

Stonecutting has a rich tradition in Slovenia. Stone is a natural material that serves man. Slovenia is a country of karst, where stone meant the way of living for centuries. But also else were in Slovenia a truly wide range of harder and softer stones have been used for centuries, and of these become, under the artists fingers, poetry in a stone sculpture that sings as a song. In the region of Rogatec, near Croatian border, is still preserved handicraft production of natural grindstone of sivi peenjak, which contains enough quartz. In the region around Rogatec almost every farm had a grindstone maker yet in the 19th century. Sculptures of stone are interlaced with history, the shapes in the stone have spirit and are so pleasant they just call to be touched. The manuscript of stonecutting handicraft still begins and ends, besides the modern technologies, with a hammer, chisel and tools for manual polish. Our masters continue our rich heritage of this activity in numerous contemporary directions.

Stone is a natural material that serves man. Under the fingers of creator sculptor has arisen poetry in stone sculptures that sings alike a song. The sculptor grinds rough edges of stone, exposes smoothly grinded part against roughly hewed surfaces, calibrates and arranges mass of substance, determines outer and inner space. The creator knows exactly what he aims to create from stone, since there are no corrections on stone. The artist comes from the tradition of Loanski stone, which is well known in these parts, since contours of ancient quarries from 1801 are still visible. Pottery and ceramic craft are also two among older crafts in Slovenia. Actually the pottery is the oldest Slovene craft. This is evidenced by the archaeological findings as well as by first written evidence about potters around the area of Zadreka valley from 1340. In the 16th century pottery was mentioned in the guild documents as an expanded branch of handicraft that developed in the country as a need of rural population. The products of Slovene potters differ by regions closely connected to clay sites. Clay is among all materials the easiest to shape. For creation of new shapes are needed above all hands that shape the clay. We present to you useful products made of clay, ceramics and porcelain of truly topmost designers. In the opened museum in Rogatec is kept fifty years old husk schoolbag, which we used as a model for making a fashionable female handbag.
