According to my experiences homeopathic remedies are really powerful in healing middle ear infection.

You may combine homeopathic remedies for earache with locally used home remedies. In the treatment of outer ear disorders local herbal/oil applications are more important than homeopathy. Choosing the appropriate homeopathic medicine is not so easy. It needs proper observation and some intuition. But it is not hopeless! I try to give clear guidelines that make you easier to find the right ear pain remedy. I suggested a well proved combination of Belladonna and Ferrum-phosphoricum for the initial stages of earache. This prescription is not individualized, anyone can try it. If you want a more precise, a more fitting remedy, than make some effort: observe the complaints carefully and find the most similar remedy for your earache. Learn about proper ear care.

Ear Infection Symptomand

about the causes of ear

pain
Ear infection symptom mostly depends on the cause of the ear pain. Earache is usually caused by middle ear or outer ear canal infection, which have slightly different symptoms:

infection and inflammation of the middle ear (otitis media) particularly common in young children with severe, intense pain in the ear, raised temperature and hearing loss (may be discharge from the ear canal)

another usual cause of earache is the inflammation of the outer ear canal (otitis externa or swimmers ear); pain may be accompanied by irritation, itching in the ear canal and sometimes by discharge.

Adults suffer more frequently from otitis externa and less from otitis media but the symptoms are nearly the same as in children. Learn about safe ear wax removal. Since ear infection symptom depends mainly on the cause of ear pain it is useful to have a good overlook about ear problem. Are you interested in all the possible causes and symptoms of earache? Have a look at my summary about the cause of ear pain. MIDDLE EAR

1.

Middle ear (cavity between the eardrum and the inner ear) inflammation is generally caused by an infection of bacteria or viruses. These spread via the Eustachian tubes to infect the middle ear. (The Eustachian tube links the back of

the throat to the middle ear) It mainly affects young children and is accompanied by fever and intense pain. Often it accompanies cold, sore throat and cough.

2.

Less common cause for middle ear inflammation are allergies (hay fever or nutritional allergies).

EXTERNAL (OUTER) EAR

1.

Inflammation of outer ear canal is often a result of an infection by bacteria, viruses or fungus. It is quite common among swimmers as moisture in the ear can encourage infection (swimmer's ear). The lining of the ear canal is very thin and easily damaged and infected by scratching or cleaning (by cotton bud) overenthusiastically. Rarely a herpes simplex infection (cold sores) or shingles (herpes zoster) can cause blisters with persisting pain.

2.

Dermatological problems like boil or neurodermitis (eczema) of the outer ear may cause pain, itching and discharging.

3.

Blockage of ear wax can cause a feeling of blockage, itchiness, mild inflammation and pain, sometimes hearing loss.

4. Injury

REFERRED PAIN (Radiation)

(A mostly intermittent earache may hail from a disorder in a nearby structure)

1. Dental problems: teething, tooth decay, caries etc. 2. Tonsillitis 3. Temporomandibular joint disorder 4. Tumors (e.g. throat cancer) 5. Neck muscle ache 6. Trigeminal neuralgia

Home Remedies For Ear infection

The human ear is composed of the inner ear, middle ear, and the outer ear. Ear infection can attack any of these parts and one part can usually infect the others. External otitis affects the outer ear some times it comes after cold or flu or some other kind of upper respiratory infection. The area from the eardrum to the outer part, becomes inflamed and is very painful, sometimes a fever may be developed. Otitis media affects the area inside the eardrum and all the small bones, the air pressure is regulated in this area by the auditory tube running from the ear to the back of the nasal cavity, when bacteria or a virus gets in this area, the different parts become inflamed with fluid, causing pressure and extremely sharp pain in the ear with fever. If the infection is not controlled it can result in eardrum perforation letting all pressure out and relieving pain, but a perforated eardrum means loss of hearing and fluid discharge. This kind of ear infection is very common in infants due to the position of the baby while feeding allowing milk bacteria to grow in the auditory tube.

inside the ear canal and involving the outer ear. Homeopathy uses minute doses of a substance to initiate the body's natural response to a stimulus, allowing the person to heal.

Chamomilla
Chamomilla is indicated for the treatment of all forms of earaches in either the right or left ear when the pain is excruciating, according to "Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines." During the earache, the child may scream and cannot be consoled. Chamomilla is indicated for children with irascible, cross dispositions, who are cross and angry, throw things and need to be rocked or carried for comfort.

Belladona
The remedy Belladona is indicated for ear pain that has a sudden onset, often at night. The pains tend to be worse in the right ear, with the child experiencing terrible throbbing and redness of the outer ear, says "Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines." Belladona is frequently indicated for earaches that occur during teething and the child may have a high fever, be flushed red in the face, feel very hot to the touch and have a glassy-eyed appearance.

Pulsatilla
Pulsatilla may help an earache that comes and goes and moves from one ear to the other, according to Dr. William Boericke in the "Materia Medica and Repertory." The outer ear may be red and swollen with a smelly, yellow discharge coming from the ear canal. The pain is usually worse at night and the ears feel stopped up. Pulsatilla may help a child who is warm and wants the window open or to be exposed to cool air. The child will generally be mildly irritable and whiny, wanting comfort and company.

Verbascum
Verbascum is indicated in earaches affecting mostly the left ear and side of the face. There is tremendous pain and a feeling as though the area is being pinched with a metal pliers or tongs. Parents may find that talking, sneezing or a change of temperature aggravates the pains in the ear, both inside and out, adds Boericke.

Other Considerations
There are quite a few homeopathic remedies that are suitable for the treatment of earaches of all kinds. Consult with an experienced homeopath to find the best remedy for your condition or your child. Some people keep homeopathic first aid kits at home with first aid reference books so they have remedies on hand in the event of an acute earache. Even if you decide to self-treat for an earache, consult your health practitioner if the pain persists beyond 24 hours. Most homeopathic remedies are available without prescriptions at health food stores and online. Ask your practitioner for dosing guidelines.

(NaturalNews) A recent meta-analysis of studies published in JAMA looking at the use of antibiotics for ear infections vs. the watch and wait approach (no treatment) found that the treatment group improved slightly, but the improvements were offset by side effects such as rash and diarrhea. This meta-analysis is scientific proof that no treatment at all is better than antibiotic treatment for ear infections. Superior to no treatment at all is homeopathic treatment. Homeopathy is natural, never has side effects, and is completely safe. Scientific studies have proven that homeopathic treatment is superior to both antibiotic treatment and no treatment at all. Ear infections can be easily treated at home using homeopathic remedies, found in most health stores and natural pharmacies. Scientists who published a study in 1997 in the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics divided 131 children into two groups: the homeopathic treatment group and the standard medical treatment group, which made use of antibiotics. The homeopathic treatment group recovered an average of a day faster than the antibiotic-using group. Another study published in 2001 in the British Homeopathic Journal compared homeopathic treatment to placebo treatment in 230 children with acute ear infections. After 12 hours, 72% of the children recovered 2.4 times faster than those children who received placebo. Recommended Homeopathic Combination Remedies for Ear Infections Homeopathic Ear Drops: These drops contain a combination of different homeopathic remedies. Drops are placed into the ear. They are easy to use and are an effective way to relieve the pain of an ear infection. Homeopathic Earache Tablets: These tablets also contain a combination of different homeopathic remedies. Tablets are taken orally, are also easy to use and relieve ear pain fast. Combination remedies are great when a single remedy does not work or the correct single homeopathic remedy cannot be determined (see below). Recommended Single Homeopathic Remedies for Ear Infections The following remedies should be used in a 30C potency (strength): Belladonna: Good for earaches that come on suddenly with intense pain. The ear is bright red and there is a high fever. Hepar Sulphuris: A sharp, severe earache accompanied by a thick colored discharge from the nose or ears. A person needing this remedy is very irritable. Pulsatilla: This is a good children's remedy for ear infections. The person is mild, weepy, and craves affection. There is yellow or green discharge from the nose or ears. Dosage and repetition: Single and combination remedies can be given as needed: every

15-30 minutes during an acute crisis and then three times daily as symptoms subside. References Coker, Tumaini R. et al.
