Responsabilit Respect Rsultats!

Welcome to French class. Before we begin learning French lets examine the three R s. As your teacher I need to: 1. Show RESPONSIBILITY by: * providing a physically and emotionally safe learning environment, * designing appropriate academic tasks, * following school rules. 2. Show RESPECT for God, myself, others, the environment and time. 3. Provide opportunities for all students to have positive RESULTS. As a student of French you need to: 1. Show RESPONSIBILITY by: * being intellectually honest, * doing quality work, * speaking up if you have concerns or needs, * following the rules established for this class and the school. 2. Show RESPECT for: * yourself, others, rules, property and education materials. 3. Honor the learning opportunity to achieve positive RESULTS. Homework Completion 20% In order to receive full credit for your homework it must be completed and ready at the beginning of the hour. If you are absent, you have one week to submit work. Late work will result in a loss of credit of 10% per day late. Language Practice 20% To receive daily language practice points you must: * be on time and prepared for class, * be attentive and respectful, * be prepared and actively participate. Tests and Quizzes 60% Most quizzes are announced, however cramming in a foreign language does not lead to long-term retention. The best way to succeed on tests and quizzes is to participate daily.

French Classroom Procedures

The Beginning of Class: Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings. Have your homework out and ready to be checked. If there is a bell ringer to be worked on, begin working on it. The End of class: Class is not over until I dismiss you. Until that time, you will stay at your seat. Do not line up at the door or walk around the room. Before you leave, make sure you clean up the area around your desk, and hand in your Language Practice sheet. Tardies: Any time you arrive late to class hand me you pass. Quickly join in whatever activity is in progress. You are responsible for making up any activity that you missed, as well as copying any notes. Three unexcused tardies results in detention. Absences: If you are absent for any reason you are required to make up all work missed. It is your responsibility to find out what assignments and notes you missed. If there were any handouts, check with your partner or ask me for a copy before or after class. Politely ask your partner if you may copy any notes, and make up your Language Practice points. Books and magazines: I have a library of French books and magazines. You are welcome to read them. If you would ever like to borrow one to take home please check with me and sign it out on the Materials Checklist. Please return these materials to me within a week, in good condition. Please treat these materials with care! Substitute Teachers: There will be times when I will not be in the classroom. Please cooperate with the substitute teacher. Be aware that substitute teachers may not be proficient in French. Partners: There will be assigned seats. You will establish a French partner in class. Your responsibility toward your partner involves: * Exchanging telephone numbers so you can get help on your homework, * Providing copies of handouts and notes when your partner is absent, * Helping each other to achieve outstanding RESULTS! Class Rules: The Three R s are to be followed in class, even before the bell rings. In the event a class rule is not followed I may give you a verbal or nonverbal warning. If need be, I will issue an Infraction Slip. This slip will indicate the problem area and the consequence: 1. Apologize at the end of class. 2. 15 minute detention after school. 3. A call home and 30 minutes after school. 4. Referral to the school administrators. Any discussions about the infraction will be after school, not during class time.
