SPRING 2012 EVENTS! SAVE THE DATE!


Coming this Spring! On-Campus Recruiting begins January 11. The Diversity Networking Mixer will be held on January 31. Career Fest 2012, January 30 February 3, a week of events for USC students centered on career topics engaging the entire university community. The Career Fair will be held February 9. Internship Week will be held February 13-16.

CAREER CENTER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMS


The Career Center is offering two great internship programs for 2012: Dream Dollars and The Scheyer Family Scholarship. The Dream Dollars Program is a unique scholarship program for undergraduates. The USC Dream Dollars Program provides stipends for USC students who receive internships with a nonprofit or government organization. This program will support students hoping to gain work experience from an unpaid internship. Students will be selected through an application and interview process. All internships must be a minimum of six weeks during the summer. The program provides a stipend of $1,200 for each student. Students must have an internship prior to applying for this scholarship. The Scheyer Family Scholarship for Summer Interns, established in December of 2007, will provide an award of $2,500 to two students enrolled in approved summer internships. Preference will be given to sophomores, juniors or seniors with demonstrated financial need. Student recipients must have a major in the USC College of Letters, Arts & Sciences and must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students must be in good academic standing and must have a graduation date between December 2012 and May 2015. Students must have an internship prior to applying for this scholarship. The chief copy editor ensures all content follows Daily Trojan and Associated Press styles. The editor manages a staff of copy editors who edit and fact check stories. y Exposition Studios Internship Opportunity Born in June 2009, Exposition Studios was created to give musicians the best recording and rehearsal experience in the greater Los Angeles area. booking, replying to emails, helping customers in and out, setting up gear, cleaning, basic upkeep. We'd also like to work on the company's marketing, advertising, business plans and models, and would also be open to any ideas you had to offer. A bigger Facebook and Twitter/social network presence altogether to help market the studio and to offer daily specials and deals. Being a fan of music would be a must, and a friendly and helpful disposition would go a long ways. Office of Congressman Dreier Intern Opportunity in Washington DC or San Dimas, CA The rules of the House of Representatives permit interns, volunteers, and fellows to serve temporarily in the office of a Member of Congress when that service is primarily of educational benefit. Congressman Dreier has tried to make internships available in his office in Washington, D.C., and in his district office in California in order to provide that experience for students and others who wish to learn more about the workings of a congressional office and about the workings of our country's democratic political process. Internships in both California and Washington are unpaid and last approximately three months (Washington internships are usually full-time during that period). It is extremely important to remember that internships are wholly educational experiences designed to further the knowledge and skills of students. Interns will not be asked to substitute for paid staff. USC Center for Urban Education Communications Intern The Center for Urban Education (CUE) is seeking a student intern with a background in communications, journalism and/or marketing. The intern will gain experience in writing articles for publication in print, on the web and other online media (e.g., through Constant Contact); assisting with the development of other content; maintaining and updating information on CUE's website; and preparing materials for dissemination to targeted audiences. Student will work 10-20

hours/week, starting in January. CUE is a research center housed at the Rossier School of Education. It leads socially conscious research and develops data, benchmarking and process improvement tools to assist colleges and universities in improving educational outcomes for minority students. y 2012 Google Lime Scholarship for Students with Disabilities Access to knowledge is our thing. When it comes to higher education for promising scholars, we don't want anything to stand in the way. That's why Google is proud to support the work of Lime Connect. Google is committed to helping the innovators of the future make the most of their talents by providing scholarships and networking retreats for computer science students with disabilities. Recipients of the Google Lime Scholarship will each receive a scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year. Selected students will also be invited to attend the annual Google Scholars' Retreat at the Googleplex in Mountain View, California, in 2012. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates' academic background and demonstrated passion for computer science - $10,000USD for those studying in the US and $5,000CAD for those studying in Canada (based on tuition costs). The Google Lime Scholarship is designed for undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities who are pursuing degrees in computer science, computer engineering or a closely related technical field at a university in the US or Canada (international students in the US or Canada are also eligible). American Theater Wing Springboard NYC Actor Boot Camp June 2012 Talent isn't all you need to make it in the theatre. You also need connections, relationships and professional tools to turn your talent into a career. That's what you'll get at SpringboardNYC. At this two week college-to-career transition program, you'll have the opportunity to participate in on-your-feet training sessions and workshops designed to help you find jobs in the New York theatre community, and introduce you to living in New York. Taught by industry professionals, sessions include audition training with directors and casting directors and seminars with industry's leading agents, managers as well as intimate conversations with working actors you will recognize from both stage and screen. SpringboardNYC also gives you hands-on practical guidance in how to live in New York while pursuing a theatre career. It is the ideal transitional program, giving you information and contacts that would otherwise take you years to cobble together on your own. 2011 Program Fee is $1,800. Need-based scholarships are available. Program fee covers a twoweek, jam-packed schedule of workshops, master classes, seminars, "meet & greets," and field trips as well as a two-week unlimited Metro card (public transportation pass). Also includes the purchase of tickets to 5-7 Broadway and/or off-Broadway shows and/or special events, including the dress rehearsal for The Tony Awards. Birthright Israel Excel Summer Fellowship in Israel University of Southern California has been specifically selected for targeted recruitment for this exciting summer opportunity! Birthright Israel Excel is a selective 10-week summer fellowship program in Israel for talented American Jewish undergraduate students (currently sophomores, juniors and seniors) who are pursuing careers in business, technology, biotech, marketing and social media. Each Birthright Israel Excel Fellow will intern at a prominent multinational Israeli company, travel to Israeli sites, meet with prominent members of the business, political and academic communities, and join an exclusive community of future global Jewish business and technology leaders. Upon return from Israel, Birthright Israel Excel participants will be paired with business mentors in the U.S. The goal of the mentor program is to further broaden the participants understanding of global economics, decision making and social responsibility. The Boren Scholarship Scholarship Program The Boren Scholarship will fund undergraduate students up to $20,000 for a full academic year to study in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Students can study abroad for a full year or a semester. Scholarships for the summer are limited to students in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. Eligibility includes (1) student must be a U.S. Citizen, (2) Must be a freshman, sophomore, or junior (you cannot graduate while abroad), (3) Applying to a study abroad program that meets USC standards (either a USC study abroad program that is approved by your advisor). Students are encouraged to pursue language study as part of their study abroad program. The campus deadline for the Boren Scholarship is 2pm on January 13, 2012. Goldwater Scholarship New York University For outstanding undergraduate students in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. The Goldwater Foundation awards up to 300 scholarships nationally. Each scholarship covers expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. Junior-level recipients are eligible for a maximum of two years of support, and seniorlevel recipients are eligible for a maximum of one year of support, for use starting in Fall 2012. It is expected that students selected as scholars intend to pursue a doctoral degree. Eligibility includes (1) Science, math, or engineering majors who will be USC juniors or seniors in 2012 2013 and (2) Must be in the upper fourth of your class with a recommended GPA of 3.5 or higher. Hyperlocal Newsroom Summer Academy New York University The Hyperlocal Newsroom Summer Academy is designed for everyone from journalism beginners to sophisticated young reporters- both precollege and college. The program is designed around the NYTimes.com site, The Local East Village, a collaboration between the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute at NYU and The New York Times. The application for the Hyperlocal Summer Academy will be available in February, 2012, and we'll let you know as soon as it goes live. The White House Summer Internship Program The White House Internship Program is a reflection of President Obamas commitment to provide young leaders an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of the Executive Office, develop their leadership skills and actively engage in public service.
