Equipment Training & Fire Demonstrations

A good emergency response plan starts with proper training. Lets face it, the best extinguishers maintained under the best service plan are worthless if your employees are not competent to operate them during an emergency. For this reason Fireline Corporation offers comprehensive extinguisher training, both in the classroom and at live fire demonstrations, using actual equipment to extinguish the fire.

Portable Fire Extinguisher Applications & Maintenance

Regular (BC) Dry Chemical Contains a siliconized sodium bicarbonate and is suitable for all types of flammable liquid and gas fires (Class B) and fires involving energized electrical equipment (Class C). They are particularly effective on fires in common cooking oils and deep fat fryers, interacting to form a layer of soap which hampers re-ignition of hot grease. BC extinguishers are not recommended for use on ordinary combustibles (Class A fires). Requires: Annual Maintenance, 6-Year Maintenance and 12-Year Hyrdrotest. Multi-Purpose (ABC) Dry Chemical Contains a siliconized mono-ammonium phosphate and is similar to regular dry chemical in its effect on Class B and Class C fires. Unlike other dry chemicals, ABC powder does have a considerable extinguishing effect on Class A materials. ABC extinguishers should not be used on deep fat fryers or computers and other delicate electrical equipment. Requires: Annual Maintenance, 6-Year Maintenance and 12-Year Hyrdrotest. Special Application Extinguishers Class K Cooking Media - Potassium Acetate Solution for restaurant kitchen hazards compatible with restaurant pre engineered systems. Class D Agents - Used exclusively for extinguishing metal fires involving magnesium, sodium, potassium, lithium, and uranium. Foam - Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) and Film Forming Fluoroprotein (FFFP), and used for Class A and Class B fires. Wheeled Units - Extra large capacity wheeled extinguishers, used to protect airports, parking facilities and hazardous industrial processes. Carbon Dioxide Is discharged as a white cloud of snow which smothers fire by eliminating its oxygen. It is effective for Class B flammable liquid fires and is electrically non-conductive, making it suitable for certain Class C electrical fires. Carbon Dioxide is a clean, non-contaminating, odorless gas, which can be used on clothing, delicate electronics, equipment, valuable documents or food. Requires: Annual Maintenance, Electrical Conductivity Test on Hose and 5-Year Hydrostatic Testing. Clean Streaming Agents These units contain various clean, electrically non-conductive, non-residue forming chemicals. They are environmentally friendly and exceptionally effective. The agents are stored as a liquid and discharged under pressure as a vapor, causing no cold or static shock. Fire is extinguished by chemical interaction and is well suited for Class B and Class C fires. Class A ratings are available in larger sizes (9lb. and up). Typical applications include computer centers, data/document storage areas, communications facilities, electronics manufacturing, museums and art galleries. Requires; Annual Maintenance, 6-Year Maintenance and 12-Year Hydrostatic Testing. Pressurized Water Typically contains a 2 1/2 gallon charge of pressurized water, which can develop a stream in excess of 30 feet. For use on Class A fires only, these units extinguish by cooling, soaking and penetrating solid combustible hazards. Pressurized water units should never be used to fight flammable liquid fires (Class B) or electrical fires (Class C). Anti-freeze (Loaded Stream) may be added for use in cold applications.** Requires: Annual Maintenance and 5-Year Hydrostatic Testing. ** Anti-Freeze Charge Requires Annual TearDown inspection. Definitions According to the National Fire Protection Associations Pamphlet 10 - The Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers: Inspection: Periodic inspection of an extinguisher includes a check of at least the following: Thorough examination of a cylinder for physical damage, corrosion, tampering or other conditions which might render it unfit for operation. Check gage for proper cylinder pressure. Determine fullness by weighing or hefting. Inspect nozzle, valve and hose assemblies. Check for broken or missing seals. Note all Hydrostatic Test and 6-Year Maintenance dates. Record all necessary corrective actions. Annual Maintenance: Is intended to give maximum assurance that an extinguisher will operate safely and effectively. It includes a thorough examination and any necessary repair, replacement and/ or subsequent testing. A tag or label is securely fastened to the extinguisher, indicating the month and year of the latest maintenance and identifies the individual having performed the service. 6-Year Maintenance: Every six years stored pressure extinguishers must be emptied and subjected to a full internal inspection and applicable maintenance procedures, including a thorough examination of all mechanical parts, extinguishing agent and expellent. Hydrostatic Testing: Periodic test mandated by NFPA and the Department of Transportation (DOT) requiring highly specialized test equipment to ensure the integrity of an extinguisher or cylinder at its listed operating pressure. Dry chemical and Halon 1211 extinguishers are to be hydrotested at 12-year intervals. High-pressure carbon dioxide extinguishers are to be tested at 5-year intervals.
