Brother and Sister Scouts, I am writing to you to seek your Scout Group and Scout Countys nomination and support in my quest to be elected to the position of Ordinary Member of the National Management Committee at National Council on the 31st March and 1st April 2012 in Morans Red Cow Hotel, Naas Road, Dublin 24.

Who am I? My name is Glenn Webster and I am the Scout Leader in the 35 th Dublin (Donore Avenue) Scout Group and currently sit on the National Adult Resource Committee and Dublin Provincial Management Support Team in the role of Provincial Adult Resources Representative.

Why do I think Im suitable for this role? Ever since I was awarded with my Patrol Leader stripes I have been interested in the bigger picture of Scouting. I have gotten involved in all levels of the association as a youth representative and now in my adult scouting career I have a further desire and hunger to make positive changes to our association. It is no secret that I have a gripe with the position Im applying for. I believe that if someone is running for election to the National Management Committee they should have a specific, tangible job to do.
Currently, there is no specific, tangible job for the Ordinary Members of the National Management Committee. In applying for this position, my manifesto sets out specific, tangible things that I would like to complete while on the National Management Committee so that the electorate can see whether I have completed the goals I have lay down.

Do I have the time? The answer for me is very simple. Scouting at local level will always be my highest priority and this will not change for me if elected. However, I do promise that if elected I will give the position all the time and energy I can afford. In order to do this, I will step back from my position at provincial level.

Professional life? In my day-to-day life, I am a final year student in Dublin City University studying Science Education. From September 2012, I hope to be teaching Maths and Chemistry to 2 nd level students.

If elected? I will be an honest and out spoken member of the National Management Committee. I will speak my mind openly but respectfully and will represent the opinions of grass root members on all issues.

Id like to thank you for taking the time to read over this cover letter. Ive attached a copy of my Scouting Curriculum Vitae outlining my experience to date and also a manifesto of ideas I would like to implement if elected. I would be delighted to follow this letter up with a phone call at your request. My contact details are above should you wish to contact me.

Finally, once again, I would ask for a nomination from your Scout Group and Scout County but more importantly the highest preference on the ballot paper you can afford me at National Council.

Le gach dea-ghu i Gasgaocht,

Glenn Webster - Manifesto

The following are some of the ideas that I would like to pursue if elected: Scouting Ireland hosting a major World Event I believe we have the skill set, the people and the infrastructure in order to be a major player in world Scouting. I will conduct a feasibility study of Scouting Ireland placing a bid to hold the 2027 World Scout Jamboree or at least some other major international event. Service Project Showcase The purpose of this is to recognise the work done by Venture Scouts and Rover Scouts in their local communities but also on the international scene.
I will put in place an annual showcase of Venture Scout/Rover Scout service/community projects in Scouting Ireland at a high profile event and location. This will be Moving towards the future but cherishing the past I believe that as a movement and association we must constantly keep up to date and real for our youth members. I also believe that we should cherish the foundation of what has gone before. attended by dignitaries from within and outside of Scouting.

105 Years of Local Scouting in Ireland

To recognise the work that Scouting has done for our local communities across Ireland throughout the years and to reaffirm our promise to serve our community. I would like to set a target of having 500 locally organised community events to

National Council
I believe that National Council could be better. It is the largest gathering of adults in scouting annually and would like to see it become an event for networking, decision making and programme sharing I will conduct a review of National Council and the workings of I with a view to major changes being made for the better.
