1.0 State domain, codomain, objects, images and range of each of the following relation.
Domain is the number represent in the first set
and it also known as objects.

Codomain is the number represent in the

second set and it also known as images.

thus; Domain= {0, 1, 2} Codomain= {-2, 0, 4} Object= 0, 1, 2 Images= 2, 0, 4 Range (julat)= (2, 0, 4) Exercise: Set X = {3,5} and Set Y ={2, 4, 6}. Set X is related to Set Y by 'number which is greater than' : illustrate the relation between sets x and set y in the form of; i) ordered pairs ii) arrow diagram

State the domain, codomain, objects, image and range of each of the following relations. a. 4 6 7 Domain = Codomain = Object = Image = Range(julat) = -3 0 5 b. -8 -6 3 Domain = Codomain = Object = Image = Range(julat) = 2 9 13

c. 9 6 3 r Domain = Codomain = Object = Image = Range(julat) = s

d. p m n 5 Domain = Codomain = Object = Image = Range(julat) = 8 13

If given in an ordered pair such as {b, s}; must remember b is under set 1 and s is under set 2. Thus, Domain= {b}, Codomain= {s}, Object= b, Image= s, Range (julat)= s Lets practice; State the domain, codomain, objects, images and range of each following ordered pairs. 1. {2,7}, {4,6}, {4,9}, {7,9} 2. {0,-2}, {1,0}, {2,3}

1.2 FUNCTION (FUNGSI)

X -2 -1 1 X-1 2 -1.5 -1 1

x - 1 , whereas; 2 Value of x is under set 1, value of x - 1 is under set 2. 2 Let value of x is -2. Thus, x - 1 = (-2)- 1 = -3 = -1.5 2 2 2 f (-2) (-2) - 1 2 f (-2) = - 1.5 So now, fill the blank with the correct answer based on what u have learned; Domain = Codomain = Object = Image = Range(julat) =

Function above can be express as f (x)

Practice make perfect!!

1. Given f (x) = 3x +9

Find the image of 5.

2. Given f (x)= Find the image of; i. ii. Object = -3 Object = 6

2. g (x)

5x-2, find g (-1)

3. h (x) x2 10 , find h (-4)

4. h (x) 3 sin x, find h (30o)

5. h:x cos x + 2, find h (60o)

6. g(x) 5-2x, find the image when x= -2

Find the object if the image is given. For example, Given that f (x) 3x 1, find the object when

1. g (x) = 4x +3. Find the object when g (x)= 7 2 2

the image is 8. f (x) = 3x 1= 8 3x 1= 8 3x = 8 + 1 1. h(x) 5-2x, find x when h(x) = -3

1.3 Composite Function (Fungsi Gabungan)

fg(x) => f [g(x)] Solve this question; in this case, g(x) is the value that substitute x. example: given f (x)= 2x + 6 and g(x) = x + 1. Find fg(x). 1st step: fg(x)= f[g(x)]= f [x+1] 2nd step: substitute the x in the f (x) => f(x+1) 2x + 6 = 2(x+1) + 6 = 2x + 2 + 6 =2x + 8 Hence, fg(x)= 2x + 8 gf(x) => g[f(x)] Solve this question; Given f(x)= 3x + 2 and g(x)= x + 4. Find gf(x). Given f(x)= 3x + 2 and g(x)= x + 4. Find fg(x).

in this case, f(x) is the value that substitute x. example: given f (x)= 2x + 6 and g(x) = x + 1. Find gf(x). 1st step: gf(x)=g[f(x)]= g [2x +6] 2nd step: substitute the x in the f (x) => g(2x+6) X + 1 = (2x+6) + 1 = 2x + 6 + 1 =2x + 7 Hence, gf(x)= 2x + 7
