2. Description
2.1 Connection
see pages 10 - 13. UMA 150D: NEMA standard. UMA 200D: NEMA standard. UMA 250D: KSB standard. UMA 300D: KSB standard.

1.2 Rated power PN

The tables on page 5 - 8 designate the maximum possible power PN under the following conditions: - U = 400 V, - direct or Y-D-starting and - v 0.2 m/s and v 0.5 m/s. If v=0 m/s, the maximal PN values of UMA 250D must be reduced accordingly. See also the individual characteristic curves in characteristic curve booklet 3455.41.

2.2 Bearing / Lubrication

2 (4) radial plain bearings and 1 axial plain bearing with self-adjusting tilting pads for compensation of axial thrust FAX (pages 10 - 13). Higher admissible FAX on request. Lubrication by motor filling water.

2.3 Direction of rotation

Anti - clockwise

2.4 Motor fill

The motor filling liquid supplied by the factory consists of 70% water and 30% propylene glycol. The motors of type series 300D are supplied filled or unfilled in accordance with the customers request.

1.3 Ambient temperature / Flow at motor 1)

The tables on pages 5 - 8 show the maximum application temperatures Tmax at maximum rated power and axial flow along the motor for v > 0.5 m/s (T0.5) and v = 0 m/s (T0.0). The application temperature for v > 0 m/s can be calculated as follows: T0.0 = 2x T0.2 - T0.5 Example: UMA 150D 18/21: T0.0 = 2x 26_C - 33_C = 19_C If the calculated permissible temperature T0.0 < 15_C, either the maximum performance must be reduced or the flow velocity must be increased by means of a cooling shroud to v > 0.2 m/s or > 0.5 m/s respectively. Motors with winding wire insulation J2 allow higher application temperatures. (See characteristic curve booklet 3455.41) 1) see section 9

2.5 Installation (see illustration below) Vertical, angled and horizontal. For horizontal installation UMA 300D motors require two water storage containers; this does not apply to UMA 150D, UMA 200D and UMA 250D motors. For horizontal installation in tanks or containers a flow at the motor of v = 0 m/s has to be assumed unless a cooling shroud is used to increase the flow velocity. For angular installation of UMA 300D motors please consult KSB. Caution: UMA 150D 37/22, UMA 200D 90/21, UMA 250D 190/21 and UMA 300D 400/22 only vertical! 2.6 Coating (standard)
Quality: Structure: Layer thickness: Colour: Minimum: Maximum: 2 - component coating layer in food quality. Priming and top coat. 100 to 150 m. blue (RAL 5002). see pump (NPSH required!). UMA 150D, UMA 200D, UMA 250D < 350 m UMA 300D < 500 m

1.4 Operating voltage

For the possible supply voltages per size please refer to the table on page 3. Motor size / winding voltage combinations per supply voltage and starting method are available in the characteristic curve booklet 3455.41, page 17. Caution: If U 400V the values differ for IN as well as partly for cos , and n! Permissible voltage fluctuation + 5%. Maximum voltage drop in the supply line < 3%.

2.7 Depth of immersion

1.5 Starting type

Direct (with and without starting transformer as well as soft starter (direct) and start - delta- starting (Y-D). Caution: The motors with Y-D-starting can often only be operated at a reduced maximum PN! (also see section table page 3)

50 Hz 9. Flow along motor v 0.2 / 0.5 m/s

Dependent of outer- of motor DM and internal- of well or tube DN we have for a capacity Q a flow along the motor with a velocity v. The condition Liquid circulating around motor is v > 0.2/0.5 m/s is satisfied, if the value for the internal- of well or tube DN, which results for a motor and a capacity Q to the following table is reached or kept within.

UMA

Motor size

DN ... mm v ... 0.2 m/s 0.5 m/s (710 x Q) + 20164 mm2 (710 x Q) + 35721 mm2 (710 x Q) + 53824 mm2 (710 x Q) + 79524 mm2

UMA 150D UMA 200D UMA 250D UMA 300D

(1770 x Q) + 20164 mm2 (1770 x Q) + 35721 mm2 (1770 x Q) + 53824 mm2 (1770 x Q) + 79524 mm2

Example: Given: ... Q = 250 m3/h, UMA 250D and v 0.2 m/s. Found: ... DN (1770 x 250 m3/h) + 53824 DN 705 mm. This means, the condition v 0.2 m/s is fulfilled if the 12 inch unit with 10 inch motor is installed in a well or a cooling jacket with an internal diameter of DN 705 mm or 28 inch.

Voltage loss DU along extension cable

To calculate the required Cu core cross section q, in addition to IN the voltage loss DU along cable length L (distance motor switchgear) must also be considered. To ensure proper functioning of our submersible motors: DU 3 % of operating voltage U! For DU > 3 % a larger cross section cable must be used. 50 Hz 12. Operation of KSB submersible motor pumps with soft starters

Soft starter electronically reduce the incoming line voltage and, hence, the initial starting torque and starting current of electric motors. During run- up they gently ramp up the applied voltage to the motor. In the case of submersible motors, the extremely slim design and consequential small moments of inertia result in special characteristics, which differ strongly from normal asynchronous motors.

UMA

12.1 Effects on submersible borehole pumps

- Starting current approx. 40% to 65% of IA required for direct-starting. - Run-up time tH increased to approx. 1s to 3s compared with approx. 0.2s to 0.5s for direct. starting. - Starting torque MA roughly 1/4 of the direct-starting torque. - No current or torque peaks (IA, MA), as in star-delta switching arrangement. - Hydraulic pressure surges (waterhammer) upon starting and stopping of the pump can be reduced, but not fully eliminated. Therefore, soft starters are not suitable for solving water hammer problems. This would require the use of hydraulic control equipment or a frequency inverter. To prevent effects due to power failure, additional measures are required.

12.2 Note
Conspicuous noise or vibrations during run-up could well be an indication of incorrect settings on the soft starter. This might be due to exceeded ramp - up periods, incorrect operating mode (setting), activated special functions, etc.

12.3 Soft starter settings

Parameter / Function Minimum starting voltage Ramp time / acceleration (run - up) time Current limitation Deceleration (run - down) time / stop ramp Special functions, e.g.: - special pump function - kick - start / boost function - speed adjustment - Current contoller - cos - / economy function - delayed starting Setting 40% of the motors rated voltage t 4s IA / IN preset to approx. 3.5 Deceleration time tA t 4s OFF Ramp time is nor identical with the motor actual run - up time Should only be altered with allowance for tH t 4s Better without a ramp. Do not use, as they tend to be troublesome, particulary in submersible borehole applications. Comments

During operation the soft starter must be bridged (bypass). This helps to avoid losses at the machine and motor to secure proper permanent operation.

50 Hz 13. Pump operation with frequency inverter

In principle, the motors of submersible borehole pumps can also be run with a frequency inverter. As submersible motors differ from conventional standardized motors in terms of bearings, moment of inertia, insulation, temperature increase, loss distribution and heat distribution, the following parameters must be observed: - Maximum allowable acceleration time (start ramp) - Maximum allowable deceleration time (stop ramp) - Minimum frequency - Maximum operating frequency - Maximum permissible voltage increase velocity and peak voltages - Control principle of frequency inverter

UMA

13.3 Maximum operating frequency

Frequency inverter operation above the nominal frequency (50Hz / 60Hz) of the pump unit must be avoided so as to prevent motor overload.

13.4 Maximum permissible voltage increase velocity and peak voltages

Excessive voltage increase velocities and excessive peak voltages will reduce the service life of the winding insulation. For this reason, the following limits must be adhered to: - Maximum voltage increase velocity: du/dt v 500 V/s - Maximum peak voltages to earth: Low-voltage motors v 1 kV:

13.1 Maximum allowable acceleration time (start ramp) and deceleration time (stop ramp)
The plain bearings of the submersible motor do not tolerate operation below the minimum frequency fmin (operation in mixed lubrication range). For this reason, the acceleration period from standstill to minimum frequency fmin should not exceed 2s. The same applies to the deceleration period.

J1 insulation v 600 V J2 insulation v 800 V

Note: Compliance with these limits can usually be assured by means of a sine filter or du/dt filter.

13.2 Minimum frequency

Minimum frequency fmin (Hz) Horizontal Vertical installation installation

13.5 Control principle of frequency inverter

The control principle of the frequency inverter must correspond to linear U/f curve control. If other control principles are employed, such as field-oriented inverters, inverters with DTC or NOF, the manufacturer of the frequency inverter must ensure that the special requirements of submersible motors (very small moment of inertia, electrical data) are taken into account.

50 Hz 14. Pt 100 temperature sensor (optional)

Temperature sensor installed in the motor on option; for measuring the temperature of the motors water fill. The sensor is equipped with a shielded 10 metre power cable S05BC4B - F 4 x 0.5 mm2 as a standard feature. S = BLACK core B = BROWN core G = GREY or BLUE core

UMA

Only one PT100 temperature sensor is required for protecting the submersible motor. For analysing the measured signal, a separate analysing device (e.g. accessory display / control unit for temperature monitoring, ident. No. 90 064 446) is required.

Connection
The sensor can be connected by 2-, 3- or 4-wire system. (For 3-wire configuration, one of the two black cores must be cut off at the cable end.) 2-wire system 3-wire system 4-wire system

The voltage at the PT100 measuring sensor must not exceed 6V. (Umax < 6V)

Checking
a) Core-to-core resistance (measure with d.c. voltage U < 6V) If the temperature sensor is intact, resistances between the individual cores shall be as follows: S to S and B to G: 0 to 30 S to B and S to G: 100 to 130 b) Insulation resistance (measure with d.c. voltage U < 100V) Combine all core ends. Between the core ends and earth (e.g. motor housing), resistance must be higher than 6 M.

Function
Two temperature limits are important for submersible motors. a) Alert temperature TAlert If the alert temperature limit TAlert is exceeded, there is a malfunction (e.g. inadmissible contamination / ochre content of motor housing). Corrective action must be initiated. Setting: TAlert = TOperation + (TCutout - TOperation)/2 TOperation = normal operating temperature after approx. 1.5 hours operation b) Cutout temperature TCutout If the cutout temperature is reached, the motor must be tripped. It must not be re-started until the malfunction has been remedied. Setting: Submersible motors with J1 winding (PVC) TCutout T = 55C Submersible motors with J2 winding (PE) TCutout T = 75C See UMA../.1 or UMA../.2 designation) Motor type 14D and motors with rated voltages higher than 900V are fitted with J2 winding.
