: 10532 EMBA Leadership and Organizational Change Assignment 3 Not the Type Who Sees the Big Picture Case Synopsis: The case displays problems caused by the difference in personality types of supervisor and his employee. 1. Should Jenny have a session with Connie on her own? Yes, Jenny should have one on one session with Connie. It will help to resolve differences between two parties by clarifying one anothers views. Jenny may be able to guide Connie towards the big picture rather than just focusing on details of information. 2. Should she have the session with the training and development specialists? Yes, Connie would certainly benefit after talking with the training and development specialists. She would get professional advice on how to develop skills required for viewing the big picture. She would also be able to understand why she have problems with her supervisor and what are the remedies to solve those issues. 3. Should Connie be given the analysis results of herself and for Jenny? Giving the analysis result of her to herself is no problem, as she will be able to take the required precautions and activities to develop herself as more competent employee. But providing her with the analysis results of her supervisor is debatable. As supervisor Jenny will be able to get all the information of her subordinates but providing Jennys result to her subordinates may be conflicting. It may also cause disciplinary problems because subordinates know the weakness of their supervisor and may not respect them. 4. What kinds of issues should the two women discuss? After understanding their own personality type and that of each other it would be easy to understand the differences between them and the reasons that caused those problems. They will also be able to discuss the things they need to address to resolve issues between them. Being a supervisor, Jenny should lead the discussion. It should be open and she should not be demanding and criticizing. Jenny should rather take the discussion towards the way such that Connie is motivated and is able to see herself in the role as required by her supervisor and able to see the big picture. Both should take along their good qualities to strengthen the organization and work to improve on their weak attributes. 5. What kinds of tasks should Jenny assign to Connie in the future? In future, Jenny must assign tasks to Connie which suits more to her personality traits. Connie should be better at: Resolving problems practically Work requiring detail and minute study Work where secrecy should be maintained. Arranging logistics Data and information collection for practical use.
