0 __________________________________ IDT(Information Design Tool) This tool is used to design a Universe Universe: Its a semantic layer between you (designer) and a data sourse# It takes complex data and represents itas objects named using common business terms, allowing you to work witht the data without requiring you to understand all the technical details. Creating Universe using IDT To start with first creates Project : It acts as a container that holds all the necessary universe resourses :connections datafoundations and business layers Now we can create a data sourse connection to connect to SAPBW,OLAP or relationa l data sources Now create the data foundation, which contains the universe structure of tables and joins, extract relavant tables from the data source, and insert the appropri ate joins.. data foundation can be on one or more relational connections For OLAP sources no data foundation is required.. Now create a business layer on the data foundation. The business layer is mapped to the tables and coloumns in the data foundation and containa collection of clases and object s You can create business layer on SAP BW, OLAP or using relational connection Final step is to publish the universe to CMC to make available for the end users .. First publish the connection followed by the business layer which includes embedded data foundation.. Create Multi Source Universe You can create multiple relational data conections to a project After creating multiple connection publish the connections to CMC Import the connection to project (shortcut for the connetion appears) Now create a data foundation using multiple data connections now create a businnes layer on the data foundation To identify which data is from which data sources the colours are given to the t ables... Difference between universe designer and IDT Universe designer IDT Import retrieve a published universe from repository or local file export Publish to repository or local file while publishing to repository first you need to publish connection first to create secured connection ne xt business layer.
