SUMMARY CONTENT OF CORSE 1.0 DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS (08 : 04) This topic explains basic terminologies of statistics. Data presentation is made in the form of graphs and frequency distribution tables. Measure of central tendency is determined using formulaic and graphical methods. This topic also discusses the calculation of mean deviation, variance and standard deviation. 2.0 AREA OF IRREGULAR SHAPES (04 : 02) This topic discusses the method of determining planar surface area using Trapezium and Simpsons rules. 3.0 PROGRESSIONS (06 : 03) This topic explains the criteria of arithmetic and geometric progressions. Determine the common difference and ratio, first term, value of nth term and the sum of the nth term. Evaluate mean as well as solving related problems. 4.0 MATRICES (06 : 03) This topic introduces the concept and basic operations of matrices. Students have to master methods in determining a 3 X 3 inverse matrix. This topic also discusses the solution for simultaneous linear equations using the inverse matrix method and Cramers rule. 5.0 NUMERICAL METHODS (06 : 03) This topic shows and differentiates numerical method to find the solution for simultaneous linear equations using Gaussian Elimination method, Crout method, Doolittle method and Cholesky method . simple fixed point iteration and Newton-Raphson methods are also discussed to find the solution for non-linear equations

4. Assessment TYPES OF ASSESSMENT The course assessment is carried out in two sections: i. Continuous Assessment - (CA) ii. Final Examination - (FE) The percentage ratio of FE to CA should follow the guideline stated in the Arahan-Arahan Peperiksaan dan Kaedah Penilaian which is approved by the Lembaga Peperiksaan dan Penganugerahan Sijil/Diploma Politeknik. i. CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT (CA): [ The total score of the CA components would be converted to the determined CA percentage ] Continuous assessment is carried out throughout the semester and comprises the followings: a. Quiz (minimum 1) 10% b. Theory Test (minimum 2) 30% c. Group Discussion (minimum 2) 15% d. Tutorial Exercise (minimum 3) 25% e. End - of- Chapter (minimum 1) 20% [ Assessment Task above (a-c) to be executed during Lecture/Practical/ Tutorial hour) ii.
