    OregonStateHistoricPreservationOffice,andtheAdvisoryCouncilonHistoricPreservationtoaddress arangeofresourceissuesincludingwildlife,groundwater,andculturalresources.CrookCountys PlanningDepartmentwasavaluablepartneraswell,conveningaTechnicalAdvisoryCommitteeof biologiststoassistinidentifyingopportunitiesforwildlifemitigation. STRONGENVIRONMENTALREVIEWANDMITIGATION:TheBLMworkedcloselywithfederal,state andlocalpartners,membersoftheenvironmentalandconservationcommunityandinterested stakeholderstoadvanceenvironmentallysoundprojects. BLMisworkingwiththeUSFishandWildlifeServiceonaddressingcompliancerequirements withtheBaldandGoldenEagleProtectionActtofacilitateopportunitiesforwindenergy projects. Throughthisprocess,theBLMinitiatesearlycoordinationwithotheragenciestoenhancethe protectionofbaldeaglehabitatthatcouldbeimpactedbywindandsolarprojectsonfederal lands.ThiscoordinationisinitiatedpriortoBLMsacceptanceofarightofwayapplicationand beforesignificantresourcesarecommittedtotheprocessingofanapplication. WBWPwillmitigate9,000acresofsagegrousehabitatbyprovidingfundingfortherestoration andenhancementofasimilaramountandtypeofhabitatonpubliclandsadministeredbythe BLM WBWPwillalsoprovidefundsthroughCrookCountytopurchaseconservationeasementsfor sagegrousemanagement WBWPalsoworkedwithUSFWStodevelopanAvian(goldeneagle)andBatProtectionPlan andpreparedaWildlifeMitigationandMonitoringPlanforCrookCounty THEBIGPICTURE:TheWestButteWindProjectisoneoftheprojectsthatwillhelpachievethe AdministrationandInteriorinitiativetomakearapidandresponsiblemovetolargescaleproduction ofrenewableenergy.
