Inspection Department:
After completion of the work of main assembly line, the vehicle is then to pass through the inspection department. Here all the problems from minor to major are checked out and maintained and also efforts are being made to reduce the production of problematic products. Here some other tests are also conducted to find out some other problems as well, especially speed tests, brake control tests, electric control test, etc.

Page 14

Quality Assurance/Control Department:

Quality control is a process by which entities review the quality of all factors involved in production. This approach places an emphasis on three aspects: Elements such as controls, job management, defined and well managed processes, performance and integrity criteria, and identification of records. Competence such as knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications Soft elements such as personnel integrity, confidence, organizational culture, motivation, team spirit, and quality relationships. The quality of the outputs is at risk if any of these three aspects is deficient in any way. Quality assurance, or QA for short is the systematic monitoring and evaluation of the various aspects of a project, service or facility to maximize the probability that minimum standards of quality are being attained by the production process. QA cannot absolutely guarantee the production of quality products. Two principles included in QA are: "Fit for purpose" - the product should be suitable for the intended purpose; And "Right first time" - mistakes should be eliminated. QA includes regulation of the quality of raw materials, assemblies, products and components, services related to production, and management, production and inspection processes.

Quality Control emphasizes testing of products to uncover defects, and reporting to management who make the decision to allow or deny the release where as Quality Assurance attempts to improve and stabilize production, and associated processes, to
avoid, or at least minimize, issues that led to the defects in the first place. The above explanation of the quality control and quality assurance make things clear about both of the topics. The HinoPaks quality control and quality assurance teams are fully aware of all these and therefore they work with confidence in their respective areas.

They not only focused to find defective products but also work to reduce the production of defective products.

Special Assignment:
Study and Calculate the time study of the Axle Shop???

Time Study:
A process for measuring the required time for performing a given task, by a given method, by a trained worker, working at a normal pace.

Why needed?
For methods improvement For determining time standards

Needs for Time Standard:

Developing schedules Determining wage payment plans Estimating production costs Providing a base for estimating productivity goals Appraising employee performance Evaluating alternative process, equipment

Axle Shop:
This shop is the one of the complex shop in the Chassis Assembly line. Axles are assembled here and sent to the main assembly line fro further possessing/operation. The work here is divided in four stages and some sub assemblies:

KAIZEN

WHAT IS KAIZEN???
Kaizen means "good change which has been interpreted to mean continuous incremental improvement. Renew the heart & make it good.

GOAL OF KAIZEN??? This activity is highly focused & action oriented which empowered team so that they can take immediate action to improve a specific process. KAIZEN CONCEPT???

Six Basic Rules of Kaizen???

1. Respect others: Particularly the local operators, you are in their living room. 2. Document reality: If you make changes based on data, the data should be based on reality. 3. Do your share: Everyone has to contribute. 4. Try something new: Be open minded - try it instead of racking your brain for reasons why it wont work (try-storming). 5. Ask why (the 5 whys): Gain complete understanding, assume nothing. 6. Be safe / Think safe: Both in your actions and in what you implement.

Page 23

Working On Kaizen Activities:

During my internship tenure, not only the plant management gives me the task/assignment of time study but also encourage met to give suggestion regarding Kaizen. This allows me to keep in view of all the activities taking place in the plant and also to identify techniques/ways to further improve these activities/processes. The kaizen activity which I identify is in the axle shop (as my assignment was related to the axle shop), this is basically related with the fatigue and the problem associated with the workers. This problem is related with the trolley (also known as jig) , the work (axle front or rear) are placed on this jig to perform work on it, after performing working the worker has to push it to the next stage for the further working. The problem is that there is no handle or something else in it for worker, so that the worker can push or pull it easily with causing fatigue to the worker. Because when the worker forced on the trolley he never achieve a good/proper working posture. The design/ drawing shown below will make it further clear:

Before

After

The handle or arm is attached on the workers side because it will attach to the front or back side, then it will make the worker come in working zone i-e danger zone.

Page 24

Suggestions and Recommendations:

Problems and their Possible Solutions:
Problems: 1. Availability of Parts is not on time at the assembly line. 2. Workers behavior towards the work. 3. Not adopting scientific ways of doing work. 4. Miss communication between different department (especially Production department and Warehouse). Possible Solutions: 1. First problem can be tackle down by adopting MRP (Material Requirement Planning) techniques. The purpose of MRP is to ensure that materials and components are available in the right quantities and at the right time, so that finished products can be completed according to the master production schedule. 2. The Second problem is related with the first one, because the On and Off of work on a work place may cause a negative impact on the behavior of the workers. 3. The third problem can be sorted out by distributing the work equally among the workers. 4. This can done by using a computerized package of MIS (Management Information System)

Page 25
