American Red Cross Offers CPR/AED Class for Professional Rescuers and Healthcare Providers
JACKSON, MI The South Central Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross will be offering a CPR/AED class for professional rescuers and healthcare providers. This class will be offered on Saturday, January 14, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. This class costs $75 and will take place at the Jackson headquarters of the South Central Chapter, located at 3425 Francis Street in Jackson, Michigan. This CPR/AED class is aimed specifically at professional rescuers and healthcare providers. It will teach skills necessary to appropriately address breathing problems and cardiac emergencies. The class will include lessons on the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), used to care for victims of cardiac arrest. There are no prerequisites for this class. Other objectives of the class include understanding legal considerations that professional rescuers must know; recognizing and providing appropriate care for breathing emergencies and other life-threatening injuries or illnesses; demonstrating of how to properly remove disposable gloves, performing an initial assessment; and performing rescue breathing for all ages. Other demonstrations include how and when to use an AED; how to give CPR (adult, infant, and child); how to use an AED in cardiac arrest (adult and child); and how to use an AED when CPR is in progress (adult and child). Upon completion of the course and a final written exam, the participant will receive one of three certificates, all with two-year certifications: CPR/AED for the professional rescuer and the healthcare provider, CPR/AED for the healthcare provider, or CPR/AED for the professional rescuer.
