At the end of July and just one year after Greece received
an aid package of 110bn eurozone leaders and the
International Monetary Fund agreed to lend the country
afurther 109bn. The measure was deemed necessary to
prevent Greece from defaulting on its debts, which it is
anticipated would have dire consequences on Europes
economy and put further into question the future of
the euro.
German and French fnancial institutions are estimated
to hold up to 70 % of Greek debt, therefore should the
countrys circumstances falter any further then the reper-
cussions would be severe on these comparatively strong
economies, and interest rates for bonds on neighbouring
struggling economies, notably the Irish Republic and
Portugal, would raise. Most signifcantly perhaps, should
Greek default on its debts, then Ireland and Portugal
could follow suit.
The Greek bailout therefore is frst and foremost recog-
nised as ameans to contain the crisis, rather than ofer
any solution. Commentators agree that the onus is now
on Greece to put into action substantial changes to the
social, administrative and political systems that led the
country to live well beyond its means for so many years.
The signifcance of this is not only that of practicality, but
also to demonstrate alliance between the eurozones 17
member states. European Commission President Jose
Manuel Barroso expressed the
importance of Greece committing to reforms, stating,
If Greece does its part, Ithink the European Union also
has to doits part because it is in our joint, it is in our com-
mon interest it is critically important that the signals
coming from Greece are clear about that.
In light of such palpable instability, Jean-Claude Tri-
chet, president of the European Central Bank, made an
interesting point regarding how the 17 members of the
eurozone should present themselves to the markets.
Not only did Trichet stress the importance of all states
maintaining aunifed voice, he also urged each member
state to understand that there was, an absolute need to
improve verbal discipline.
By this, Trichet was highlighting the fact that unchecked
talk can send a ripple of unanticipated panic not only
across Europe but also, and more signifcantly, worldwide.
Globally, all eyes and ears are on the euro, therefore while
under the spotlight, all players must perform carefully and
cohesively. The message being that despite its weaker
members, the eurozone will remain unifed, and therefore
strong. Of course, the euro can not be saved, or at least
preserved, by positive talk alone, but its an interesting
analogy for business in the broadest sense: in times of
crisis, the benefts of the strong supporting the weak
can only be reaped if all parties acknowledge, support
and promote their ultimate and shared objective.

the Brno Exhibition Centre
53rd International Engineering Fair will
take place from 3 to 7 October 2011 as
the most important industrial show held
in the new member countries of the
European Union. Interest in participa-
tion is again rising, and most surfaces
including the largest exhibition halls
are already sold out.
The fair reflects
economic recovery
Preparations are in full swing and we reg-
ister high interest in participating. After
last year, which refected the beginning
of economic recovery, this is another tes-
timony of the positive mood of industrial
frms, stated MSV director Ji Rousek.
He also confrmed that the number of
applications is already higher than last
year in many felds, while new ones are
still coming. We see returning exhibitors
who last participated in MSV in 2008,
before the economic crisis, while some
traditional participants expand their exhi-
bition space. Most of our largest buildings,
including Halls P, Vand F are flled almost
to full capacity, Rousek specifed.
Interest in the fair corresponds with posi-
tive development of the economy and
the growth of industrial production in
the Czech Republic but also in Germany
and throughout Central Europe. Domestic
exports are driven beside the automotive
industry especially by engineering and
energy sector.
Hall P will belong
to metalworking
machines
The largest exhibition hall in Central Eu-
rope becomes the main presentation cen-
tre of the important branch of machine
tools for the third time. Visitors can look
forward to the largest number of ma-
chinery exhibits headed by the novelties
of leading domestic and international
manufacturers. Although IMT, the spe-
cialized machine tools trade fair does
not take place this year, the extent of
exhibition space booked in this branch
already exceeds last years reality of the
IMT fair 2010. Recovery in engineering
felds, which is now talked about a lot,
is a reality and is clearly manifested in
the participation interest, commented
Ji Rousek.
There are no rules for exhibitors restrict-
ing the machine presentation, therefore
producers want to present to potential
clients really the most interesting parts
of their ofer. There are reports of specifc
machine exhibits, which we will see in
Brno. For example, Kovosvit MAS will pre-
sent its new product of the year - fve-axis
multi-centre MCU 5X 630VT with turning
possibilities.

Exhibitors, who signifcantly increased
their exhibition space in comparison
with last year, include companies like
STROJRNA TYC, ITAX PRECISION, AGIE
CHARMILLES or DK machinery. Companies
that exhibited at MSV last in 2008 and
return this year, include Mikron MORA-
VIA (machine tools), FEIN elektronradie
(machine tools and turning machines
and tools), DAYTON PROGRESS (standard
parts for forming machines) or SEMACO
(machine tools), who participated in MSV
in 2005.
The whole Machine Tools, Welding Equip-
ment, Surface Finishing and Tools branch
presents most newcomers. The most in-
teresting premiere will involve the par-
ticipation of YAMAZAKI MAZAK Central
Europe. An ofer of machine tools brings
to Brno for the frst time the companies
RIPRON, S.O.S. DIFAK, MACMATIC, MAIER
CE PELUG-TECH or Pavel Pardovsk. Pre-
miered foreign participants include the
English Eclipse Magnetics Ltd (abrasives)
or German company Peiseler (cutting
tools).
Key branches of this
years edition
Exhibitors in other industries also look
to the future with greater optimism and
want to seize the new opportunities
brought about by the economic recovery.
The most numerously represented branch
group will again feature Materials and
Components for Mechanical Engineer-
ing, where in comparison with the last
two years the participation of companies
and the extent of leased surface increases.
For the very frst time, the Italian steel
company MARCEGAGLIA will take part in
MSV and present its range of welded steel
tubes and pipes in an extensive exhibi-
tion. Asimilar range will also be exhibited
by another premiere participant, Benteler
Distribution Czech Republic. Newcomers
also include LubTec company, ofering
centralized lubrication technology or
Oiles Deutschland, a German company
supplying friction bearings.
Organizers registered a signifcant ex-
pansion of exhibitions also in the feld of
Materials and Components for Mechanical
Engineering - the most striking example
is VTKOVICE, who rented astand area of
300 m
2
. MORAVIA STEEL will again occupy
the entire pavilion H with their exhibition.
Other businesses also intend to present
themselves in agenerous way this year,
among them SCHWER FITTINGS whose
CEO Tom Rpar told us: We did not
miss MSV even in times of crisis, which
of course was challenging, but Ithink the
attendance paid of. We did not disappear
from the market for customers and this
year in turn we exhibit in greater glory
than in the past two years. SCHWER FIT-
TINGS will among other things introduce
anew range of fttings for avery challeng-
ing technology in Brno, namely distribu-
tion of clean gas with high tightness and
resistance against aggressive media.
Exhibitors of materials and components,
who last attended the Brno trade fair
in 2008 and are returning this year, in-
clude the company SCHAEFFLER CZ, VK
LOISKA, KOVOBEL, VISIMPEX or the Aus-
trian company GRAESSNER.
Substantial felds of MSV on along-term
basis also include Plastics, Rubber and
Chemistry. Last years K fair in Dssel-
dorf already showed that the crisis in this
sector has passed and due to dynamic
growth of the automotive and electrical
industry as major customers, the demand
for plastics technology continues to rise.
Major exhibitors like KUBOUEK, PLASTO-
CHEM or WITTMANN BATTENFELD extend
their exhibition space year by year, we see
the return of such frms as MAPRO and
MOLD-MASTERS. Foreign exhibitors in
apremiere include the Slovak company
MIKON, ADDIPLAST from France or the
Israeli company POLYMER GVULOT. The
domestic industry newcomers include
Plastics Cluster and Company G-FIX with
industrial adhesives and aerosols.
Another branch, which already occupies
alarger area than last year, covers Drives,
Hydraulics and Pneumatics. After three
years, FESTO company exhibits once
again, ofering pneumatic components;
the CHARVT Group is an example of
a company expanding their exhibition
area and new participants include Aus-
trian GKN Service Austria in the feld of
hydraulic components and systems.
A display of advanced
technologies
This year primarily focuses on the ef -
ciency of industrial production. New solu-
tions for ef cient use of inputs, reduced
energy consumption and materials and
thus increased competitiveness come to
the fore. An ofer of these advanced tech-
nologies is far beyond just power gen-
eration industry, but rather permeates all
sectors. Yet specifcally the whole Power
Engineering and Heavy-Current Electrical
Engineering branch is where organizers
expect interesting participation. For the
frst time, the Russian company Atom-
expo will be aregular exhibitor in the feld
of Nuclear energy and after afew years,
Phoenix-Zeppelin Electric Division are
back at MSV, ofering power generators.
The Czech Association of Energy Sector
Employers as expert guarantor will be
present, representing member frms and
vocational schools at their stand. They will
also participate in the accompanying pro-
gramme on Strategies For Competitive,
Sustainable and Safe Energy.
The premiere participation of Camfil
Farr, a world leader in production and
development of air flters and air clean-
ing solutions deserves attention in the
feld of environmental technology. An
interesting fact which also confrms the
positive development of the economy, is
the highest ever participation of fnancial
institutions - banks, insurance companies
and leasing companies in the branch of
Research, Services and Institutions.
It remains to be said that this years fo-
cus on optimizing costs and streamlined
manufacturing will be complemented by
the 6th International Fair for Transport and
Logistics organized in parallel. Transport
and Logistics ofers innovative solutions
for procurement, warehousing, handling,
packaging and distribution of goods.

Foreign exhibitors
return
The industrial market in Central Europe
is growing and companies from Western
Europe, but also from other parts of the
world want to take advantage of new
business opportunities. We are delighted
by increased interest by direct foreign
exhibitors, mainly from Germany, Slo-
vakia and Italy, said Ji Rousek in this
context. Visitors will get to know the ofer
of awide range of major companies, who
have never exhibited in Brno before, but
who feel that this year was the right time
to penetrate new markets. One of the
foreign exhibitors who will attend MSV for
the frst time, is aglobal company BS&B
Safety Systems based in the Netherlands
that develops and manufactures special
components and equipment for pressure
measuring and control.
Traditionally, most applications arrive
from Germany, especially in the felds of
machine tools and materials and compo-
nents for mechanical engineering. Two
dozen German exhibitors applied for par-
ticipation in the fair for the frst time, and
German participation generally exceeds
last year with both the number of frms
and occupied surface space. Individual
German Lands again want to extensively
present themselves and prepare their of-
fcial participation, representing dozens of
companies from various industrial felds.
The largest exhibitions will feature Baden
- Wuerttemberg and Bavaria, followed
by Hessen, Thuringia and after a pause,
Saxony and Rhineland - Palatinate return
to Brno too.
Another interesting return is the of cial
Swiss participation, organized by the
Switzerland - Czech Republic Chamber
of Commerce. Other Swiss companies
exhibit separately, namely in the feld of
machine tools, among them for exam-
ple Swisstool Export - Gruppe or TEXIMP.
Alarge stand of Alfeth Engineering will
feature eighteen companies from Swit-
zerland, Germany, Italy, France and India.
Of cial stands, which clearly show how
much weight each country attaches to
MSV in Brno, will be opened by several
more countries. Traditional Slovak par-
ticipation is guaranteed by the Ministry of
Economy SR, Austrian participation takes
place under the auspices of the Austrian
Embassy Commercial Department and
the French participation is supported
by the French-Czech Chamber of Com-
merce. This years attractions include the
planned of cial participation of Belarus,
and even two large stands of export pro-
motion institutions from Turkey, which
document the current boom of this new
economic power. There will of course be
also non-European exhibitors, among
whom mainly companies from India and
China rose in numbers.
Poland is the partner
country of MSV 2011
For the fourth time, the Brno Trade Fair
continues in the tradition of partner
countries, which gradually welcomed
Germany, Slovakia, Austria and this year
it is Poland - currently the third most
important trading partner of the Czech
Republic. The Polish partnership takes
place under the patronage of the Polish
Minister of Economy Waldemar Pawlak
and his of ce supported the signifcant
participation of Polish exhibitors at this
years MSV. This fair is included among
nineteen events, where the state pays 50
percent of the costs to Polish frms (up to
CZK 150,000).
Poland will have its of cial exhibition
stand at this MSV located in the central
Hall Vand it will include an exhibition of
industrial design. The Poland - MSV 2011
Partner Country project will also comprise
bilateral events lead by the second year
the of Czech - Polish Economic Forum,
which was frst held at the Polish embassy
in Prague in 2010.
Industry seeks young
professionals...
... and the International Engineering Fair
organizers meet its needs. After a two-
year break the JobFair project will be here
again, responding to the new demands
of employers for skilled workers. After
a period of stagnation, a lack of young
professionals in engineering and other
industries is again beginning to show,
which asign of continuing recovery. The
JobFair should help solve this problem,
Ji Rousek explained. Purpose of the Job-
Fair project which was held last at MSV
2008 is to facilitate contacts between
employers in diferent industries, and job
seekers, including students.
An attractive contest for young mechani-
cal engineers in CNC machine tools pro-
gramming continues at the fair at the
same time, while in the past years it re-
ceived a very favourable response. It is
organised by the Association of Engineer-
ing Technology and the young contest-
ants produce aprogramme specifed by
a drawing directly on site within a time
limit. The best results of their work are
directly applied to the exhibited machines
and the winners take away aworkpiece
made according to their programme.
The Technology Transfer and Innovation
project enters its third year atrade fair
contact centre with apresentation of uni-
versities and scientifc research capacities
ofered to the industry. Technical universi-
ties and research centres will be provided
space in Hall A1, and again there will also
be aforeign exhibitors, among them the
German Federal Ministry of Education
and Research.

Polska Technika Grnicza S.A. (Polish Min-
ing Technics Jsc), which was established
by key mining machines and devices pro-
ducers, is an organizer of the biggest in
Europe International Fair of Mining, Power
Industry and Metallurgy KATOWICE.
The fair show has a 30-year-old tradi-
tion and is organized biennially in the
fair and concert hall Spodek, located
in Katowice, the capital city of Polish min-
ing industry.
Over 400 Exhibitors from 19 countries
participated in the last edition of our fair
show. The exposition was visited by over
25,000 professionals from 22 countries.

The emphasis placed on savings of energy
in the building industry will play an im-
portant role in several years to come. That
is why the exhibitors at the FOR ARCH
Trade Fair have prepared presentations
of news and matters of interest in the
feld of LOW-ENERGY BUILDING. At the
22nd edition of the International Trade
Fair FOR ARCH 2011 (21-25 September,
Exhibition Centre Prague Letnany) you will

of this progressive feld of the building
industry. The main topic will be followed
also by all the Trade Fairs held simulta-

why I am looking for
my inspiration at FOR
ARCH
The construction of a family house is
a process which should be a matter of
not only aesthetics but also a matter
of economy. The time when the main
criteria were only the acquisition price
(even though in their eforts of achieving
fnancial savings the investors many times
reduce the standards for apassive house
and present the result as an economic
variant), size and location is defnitely
over. An emphasis is placed especially
on low prices of energy, high-quality de-
sign of details, accumulation capacities of
constructions, high-quality windows and
doors, possibilities of ventilation with re-
cuperation, simplicity of control and pos-
sibility of checking the savings achieved.
To fnd a proper inspiration you do not
have to travel abroad anymore, as high-
quality constructions are implemented
in the Czech Republic as well, thanks to
anumber of Czech promoters as well as
organisations which present this style of
housing within the framework of various
events, conferences and trade fairs. The in-
ternational days of passive houses are not
in any case the only event of such atype
within the entire range of events, never-
theless they ofer important comparisons
in construction of passive houses in the
countries of Europe. The Passive House
Centre, which is the warrantor of the main
topic of the FOR ARCH 2011 Trade Fair, has
been cooperating with foreign colleagues
as well as with renowned Czech frms for
along time.

Stanislav Karsek from the Karon com-
pany, who took part at the construction
of a house in Prague Uhnves, com-
ments on these activities: We are active
members of the Passive House Centre. We
are interested in not only constructing
passive houses but also in speaking about
them. The cooperation with informed
customers is much better. Now it should
be an absolutely normal practice to con-
nect renovations of the physical condition
of abuilding with its energy performance
upgrade. This means to reduce energy
demands of abuilding to an acceptable
level, i.e. to the level of a low-energy
house or even if it is at all possible to
the level of a passive house. The neces-
sary tools, products and technologies are
normally available on the market.
The importance of the Trade Fair is con-
frmed also by the fact that all those
thinking about construction of apassive
house can fnd their inspiration there.
One of these persons is also Ing.Miroslav
Moravec, who has been living in apassive
house already for two years and who has
drawn his inspiration just at the FOR ARCH
Trade Fair and from his friends already liv-
ing in passive houses. He says: Iam highly
satisfed with the use of the house, and
if Idecided to build ahouse in the future
again, my selection will be in any case the
same, adds Mr. Moravec and continues:
Ifnd the most important advantage of
this house in energy savings, and what
is more, for the time of using the house
Ihave not encountered any concerns or
disadvantages. In any case, I would like
to recommend all those who are going
to construct passive houses, to visit the
FOR ARCH Trade Fair where they have
a possibility to learn a lot of interesting
information, to meet experts and to ob-
tain precious advice.

An interesting topic is the series of special
lectures ofered by the Passive House Cen-

held at the Exhibition Centre Prague Let-
nany. One of them is the 6th edition of the

vironmental loads of buildings, etc. The
other conference event is already the 3rd
edition of the Crossroads of Architecture
conference. It will be held already on the
15th September at the National Technical
Library in Prague. Apart of the conference

technics, power engineering, automa-
tion, electronics and other sectors will
introduce their news in Prague again,
at the second edition of the electrotech-
nical Trade Fair ELECTRON, which is to be
held already on 13 16 March 2012 at
the Exhibition Centre Prague Letnany.

WTT Expo the Trade Fair for Industrial
Heat and Cooling Technology will be pre-
senting innovative products, processes
and systems, which make an important
contribution towards energy ef ciency
and recovery, at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair
Center between 27 and 29 September
2011.
We are anticipating a total of 140 in-
ternational exhibitors. With more than
80 % of exhibition space allocated, we
are well ahead of our time schedule and
can look forward to the coming WTT Expo
with avery optimistic attitude, says Britta
Wirtz, Managing Director of Karlsruher
Messe- und Kongress-GmbH (KMK). WTT
Expo is the only trade fair dedicated to
industrial heating and cooling to be held
in the German-speaking world in 2011.
All in all, we can record a sustainable
improvement of the mood in this very
special area of the apparatus construc-
tion sector, reports Harald Krssmann,
the initiator of WTT Expo. After 2010
being a very dif cult year for everyone
involved, we were able to win back many
leading companies and attract anumber
of new exhibitors. However, WTT Expo
continues to be the platform for small
and medium-sized specialists in the key
areas of heat exchanger and heat transfer
technologies.
This is demonstrated, for example, by
the fnal results of the OrbiLas project
after technical modifcations, which are
being presented on the joint stand of
MAUS Italia and the Fraunhofer Institute
for Production Technology (IPT). The
fully automatic laser tube-to-tube sheet
welding for tube bundle heat exchang-
ers is a highly interesting subject as far
as production technology is concerned.
Daussiny from the Netherlands and Poly-
soude from France are just two of the
companies which will be giving presen-
tations on welding technology in heat
transfer systems.

gawa) will be presenting the results of the
ITG study on decentralised hall heating

Sponsored by the Federal German Min-
istry of Transport, Building and Urban
Development, fgawa is conducting are-
search project entitled Study of produc-
tion halls with their characteristic building
structures and heating, ventilation and air
conditioning systems for target-oriented
development of overall energy-saving and
emissionreduction potential in the course
of updating the DIN V18599 standards /
EnEV 2012 (German Energy Saving Or-
dinance) within the framework of the
Building for the Future initiative. The ITG
(Institute for Building Systems Engineer-
ing) has been engaged to draw up the
paper on plant engineering while Kassel
University has been asked to prepare the
paper on building physics. The purpose of
the study is to establish afoundation for
an accurate energy assessment of produc-
tion halls with aparticular focus on hall
heating systems. At the same time, the
study will also determine the building
and plant-related energy saving potential
of halls throughout Germany. The results
and fndings will be incorporated into
a revision of the DIN V 18599 standard,
as well as the amendment to the German
Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV), which
has been announced for 2012.
Other key players, including etapart,
Kbler and Nordluft, who were among
the leading manufacturers involved in
the fgawa research project, have agreed
to take part, as has Sunline.
We have obviously seized on aparticu-
larly exciting subject, Harald Krssmann
explains. This can be attributed to the
fact that the recovery of heat from the
ambient air in production buildings is
giving rise to considerable, as yet un-
used potential, at atime when the world
of the actual component and system
manufacturers is merging with that of
the energy-optimised ventilation system
manufacturers.

processes, systems and components that
ofer a means of improving energy ef-
fciency and the recovery of heat and

Our clearly defned trade fair profle is
being used by energie-cluster.ch with
the organisation of the SWISS Pavilion,
explains Britta Wirtz. It also shows that
the southern region of Germany, and
the Karlsruhe technology region with
the adjacent northern French market
in particular, is becoming increasingly
interesting to Switzerlands apparatus
manufacturers and suppliers.

50Hertz Offshore: A Power System
for Wind Energy in the Baltic Sea
The share of renewable energies in
Germanys overall power production has
risen considerably in recent years. Baltic
offshore wind farms will in future con-
tribute an important part of this energy.
But how will the wind energy generated
at sea be brought to the onshore power
system? This is where 50Hertz Offshore
GmbH comes in.
50Hertz Ofshore is asubsidiary of trans-
mission system operator 50Hertz Trans-
mission GmbH, which has its registered
of ce in Berlin, employs ca. 650 people
and generated aturnover of 5,596m in
2010. The companys objective is to erect
and operate power lines and related as-
sets serving the connection of ofshore
wind power generation units to an elec-
tricity transmission or distribution system.
To ensure ef ciency, 50Hertz Ofshore
will focus on connecting up the wind
farms located on German territory in the
Baltic Sea. This means 50Hertz Ofshore
will take wind power from the sea right
to the socket.
50Hertz as atransmission system operator
is in charge of operation, maintenance,
planning and requirement-based exten-
sions of the 380/220 kV transmission
system, and of compliant management
of the electricity system as a whole in
the territories of the German Federal
states of Berlin, Brandenburg, Hamburg,
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony,
Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
By hooking the Baltic wind energy gen-
erators up to the system, 50Hertz and
50Hertz Ofshore are making an impor-
tant contribution to climate protection:
Only by connecting the wind farms up to
the system will this energy produced with
zero carbon emissions be brought to the
power system and hence to consumers.
Harnessing Wind
Power in the Baltic
Sea
Currently, 14 wind farm projects have
applied for grid connection with 50Hertz
Ofshore; so far, four permits have been
granted. The frst ever ofshore wind farm
project in the Baltic Sea was EnBW Baltic
1, which began construction in July 2009
and will commence operations immi-
nently. The wind farm is situated 16km
north of the peninsula of Fischland-Dar-
Zingst. Its 21 wind turbines generate ap-
proximately 50 MW and will be able to
supply electricity for 50,000 households.
As the electricity has to come along dis-
tance from the high seas to the onshore
transmission system (ca. 75 km), robust,
high-performance submarine cables and
landlines are used to ensure its safe trans-
portation.
According to current planning, by 2015/16
there will be fve ofshore wind farms
operating in the area, generating ap-
proximately 1,500 MW, and requiring an
investment of ca. 1.5bn. By connect-
ing the Baltic ofshore wind farms to the
power system, 50Hertz Ofshore is doing
pioneering work, as it is the frst time
that wind farms erected far of the Baltic
coast have to be linked up to the onshore
electricity system over long distances.

EnBW Baltic 2 The
Next Big Step
The Baltic 2 wind farm is located in the Bal-
tic Sea of the Isle of Rgen and will com-
prise 80 wind turbines of 3.6 MW capacity
each, adding up to an overall capacity of
288 MW signifcantly higher than its
sister farm Baltic 1. Norddeutsche Seeka-
belwerke GmbH (NSW), awholly-owned
subsidiary of the General Cable group of
companies, has been awarded the con-
tract for the manufacture and installation
of the network connection cables. Baltic
2 will generate 1,200 gigawatt hours of
electricity for some 340,000 households
each year, saving some 900,000 tonnes
of carbon dioxide emissions.
Wolfgang Bogenrieder, Managing Direc-
tor of 50Hertz Ofshore: Hooking up the
generating assets to the onshore electric-
ity system is our contribution to climate
protection, and thereby to developing
ofshore wind power. We are pleased to
have found avery good partner for cable
manufacture and installation for what is
our second ofshore project. Electricity
from the Baltic region is becoming ever
more important. This encourages us in
our aspiration to expand the onshore
transmission system, too, aiming to en-
sure that Baltic electricity can indeed be
transported to where it is needed to
the consumption hotspots in Germanys
south and southwest.

50Hertz Offshore: A Power System

a larger, international network. An alli-
ance with Danish wind farm Krieger Flak
3 is currently being planned, resulting in
an expansion of interconnecting lines
between Germany and Denmark; alater
co-operation with Sweden to participate
in this Baltic network is also possible. The
project is being partially funded by the EU
and enjoys aprestigious status within the
union. In fact, the EU has agreed to con-
tribute up to 150m for the establishment
of an ofshore power grid at Kriegers Flak,
signing an agreement with Danish Trans-
mission Systems Operator Energinet.dk
and 50Hertz Ofshore. This Grant Agree-
ment was concluded under the European
Energy Program for Recovery (EEPR) on
the condition that the project obtains
the necessary authority approvals and
permissions in Denmark and Germany.
Kriegers Flak is a shallow area of water
located between Denmark, Germany and
Sweden, which is particularly suitable for
the erection of large ofshore wind farms.
The international project involves the
construction of acombined grid solution,
allowing the connection of ofshore wind
farms to an ofshore power grid connect-
ing Denmark and Germany, with the pos-
sibility of adding Sweden at alater date.
The project has received much attention
on the international scene as it may serve
as amodel for future ofshore power grids
in the Baltic Sea, the North
Sea and the Mediterranean; it will also
strengthen the electricity trade between
Denmark and Germany, explains Energi-
net.dks Peter Jrgensen, Vice President,
Electricity Division. Wolfgang Bogenrieder,
Managing Director of 50Hertz Ofshore,
adds: The project will improve security
of supply, strengthen competition on the
electricity market to the beneft of the
consumers, and help realise the ambitious
goals of expanding renewable energy in
Europe. It will also contribute to spread-
ing wind power to alarger geographical
area, ensure improved utilisation and thus
increase the value of wind energy as it
continues to expand rapidly in Denmark
and Germany.
The European Commission has helped
pave the way for this pioneering ofshore
grid project also via the supportive in-
volvement of the EU Coordinator for of-
shore/onshore grid development. In its
Energy Program for Recovery, the EU has
earmarked atotal of 3.98bn for electric-
ity and gas infrastructure, ofshore wind
farms and carbon storage and capture.

investments, i.e. provides fnancial sup-
port aimed at boosting economy and
occupation through targeted investments
in infrastructure projects of central impor-
tance to the EU to achieve its energy and
environmental policy goals.

Safe Workforce, Sound Business
New World Resources Plc (NWR) is Cen-
tral Europes leading hard coal and coke
producer, serving a blue chip client base
in the regions steel and energy sectors.
Chief Operating Officer Jn Fabin talks
to Gabrielle Brown about how putting
the welfare of its staff first dramati-
cally improved efficiency, morale and
customer relations at NWR.
NWR has an impressive profle: its subsidi-
ary OKD, a.s., (OKD) is the largest hard coal
mining company in the Czech Republic,
and the companys coke subsidiary, OKK
Koksovny, a.s., (OKK) is Europes largest
producer of foundry coke. A third sub-
sidiary, NWR KARBONIA S.A., oversees
two new development mining projects
in Poland. For all its credentials, NWR
remains part of an industry that can per-
haps engender some dark connotations
imagine working for hours each day
submerged deep underground amidst
aforeboding looking deep-black sub-
stance. However, speaking to Mr. Fabin
it became evident that coal mining has
become a signifcantly more rewarding
occupation for NWRs 18,000 employees.
Safe Investments
In 2007 NWR embarked on a project it
entitled POP 2010 meaning Productiv-
ity Optimization Programme, with 2010
representing the anticipated completion
date. The scheme involved implement-
ing state-of-the-art mining and gateroad
development technology. We didnt cut
costs by seeking out smaller, unknown
and potentially unreliable suppliers. We
bought the best equipment from the
leading manufacturers that was proven
to be safe, efective and ef cient, says
Mr. Fabin.
The mining industry can be dangerous, so
NWR ensured its investment extended to
every aspect of the mining, and miners,
kit, including overalls, hard hats, boots,
lamps, detection devices and clothing
utilizing the latest high-tech fabrics.
The results improved ef ciency (com-
paring 2009 to 2010 overall, ef ciency
increased by 15 % as a result of these
investments) and also created afar safer
workplace and amore dependable work-
force. For example, in 2010 there was
a22 % drop in the number of accidents
and the 2010 Lost Time Injury Frequency
Rate (LTIFR) a mining industry meas-
urement of safety that represents the
number of reportable injuries after three
days absence divided by total number
of hours worked expressed in millions of
hours, decreased from 12 to 9.13. This is
amajor achievement perhaps the most

signifcant of our achievements to date
when you consider how important safety
is in our industry, and that our people are
our most valuable asset, says Mr. Fabin.
Encouraging
Innovation at
Every Level
Senior executives working in any large
organization will invariably face the chal-
lenge of how to make their employees feel
that their contribution, no matter at what
level or of what size, does make adifer-
ence to the success of the business. The
question of how best to motivate staf is
one NWR has made serious commitment
to addressing. With the obvious motiva-
tor covered (NWR pays it staf around
50% above the regional average wage),
the company established areview process
designed to fnd ways to really inspire
and encourage its workforce. We took
1,200 of our employees, namely 10 % of
our coal miners, including those at the
entry-level of employment, and spent two
days discussing and sharing ideas around
the subjects of corporate culture, clients,
strategy, and so on. We involved profes-
sionals from various disciplines to run
the sessions, including psychologists for
example, as well as our senior managers.
This gave us the opportunity to under-
stand, and connect with, the people who
really make our business and fnd ways
to ensure they are driven to help NWR
succeed, and feel part of that success,
says Mr. Fabin.
The outcome of this review saw NWR
develop a reward system based on the
Kaizen (Japanese for improvement)
philosophy. Continuous Improvement
focuses on seeking out improvements at
every level of an organizations operations,
even in seemingly mundane or insignif-
cant processes and systems. The objective
is to ensure everyone constantly contrib-
utes ideas for improving ef ciency and
sees an immediate beneft for their efort.
Now, anyone at any level can contribute
their ideas for how we can improve ef-
fciency, and be rewarded fnancially for
doing so, says Mr. Fabin. In 2010 NWR
employees submitted 802 suggestions for
improvements which also led to EUR 10m
savings. Of course, not all suggestions
lead to acost saving, some may increase
costs but improve safety. The best result
for NWR is that we now have aworkforce
who really dofeel that they can contribute
to the safety and success of the company.
The Future for Coke
and Coal
There are comparatively stable aspects
to NWRs business. For example, some
of the companys customers have been
with the company, in its various guises,
since the Second World War, it operates
within aregion that has a220year history
of coal mining, and its neighbouring steel-
producing clients will have exclusively
designed their blast furnaces around the
qualities of the coal extracted from NWRs
mines. However, the energy market is
notably less secure and predictable. The
Fukushima plant crisis in Japan put the
safety of nuclear energy into question,
which will afect the perceived value of
other energy commodities though it
is not yet known what the outcome of
this will be. Then there is the increased
pressure, and desire, to integrate more
energy from renewable sources but
renewables remain expensive and com-
paratively dif cult to monitor both in
terms of how much energy they gener-
ate and their market value. As afourth-
generation miner, Ihave been monitoring
the thermal coal reserves since 1985, and
Iknow that it is the most abundant fossil
fuel, with reserves spread the world over.
So, I dont think there is any question
regarding the demand for thermal and
coking coal; the challenge therefore is to
fnd ways to reduce its emission levels.
NWR Plc was incorporated in the United
Kingdom in May 2011, is listed on the
London, Prague and Warsaw stock ex-
changes and is headquartered in the
Netherlands. In 2010 NWRs revenues
were 1.59 billion, up 42% on the previ-
ous year, and had EBITDA of 464 million,
up 160% on the previous year. Mr. Fabin
remains acutely aware that facts, fgures
and strategy mean nothing without the
people behind them. For me, the most
exciting aspect of working for NWR is
in seeing how investing in people can
really change the dynamic of abusiness.

You became Chief Executive O cer
in 1993; how has the rm changed
since then?
The frm has expanded and matured; its
situation in 1993 cannot be compared
with that of the present, either from
a point of view of volume or quality of
production. We are a subsidiary of the
Hansen Sicherheitstechnik A. G. holding
company, based in Munich. This pub-
lic limited company ranks among some
of the largest European manufacturers
and suppliers of electrical equipment
for mines, i.e. for potentially explosive
environments.
Nowadays we have over 200 employees;
we started with 60 people. The growth
of the frm can be illustrated best in fg-
ures. When, in 1995, we had aturnover of
100million crowns, Ithought that meant
an unbeatable success. Our most success-
ful year, however, was 2009, despite the
economic recession peaking all around
the world. We had already many signed
contracts and due to that we achieved
a turnover of more than 600 million
crowns. This year looks very good and it
seems that we will repeat our success, or
even surpass it.
We started as supplier for OKD and sub-
supplier to our partner companies within
the corporation in Germany and Poland;
now we export to the whole world. We
have a very strong position in Russia,
mainly in Siberia; we are well-established
in the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus and
also Mexico. Not long ago we made our
frst deliveries to Turkey and just yesterday
representatives of a Spanish company
visited us and were also interested in our
supplying them with our products. We
export some products, such as vacuum
contactors, all over the world.
Are you monitoring opportuni-
ties in Afghanistan, for example?
Companies from every continent are
attempting to source the mineral
wealth there and there are certainly
excellent business opportunities for
equipment suppliers
Firstly I must point out that this year it
will be dif cult enough for us to meet the
demand now for the contracts that we
already have. We are not keen, therefore,
to open ourselves to risk Idonot mean
in technological terms, but we all have
agood idea from media reports of the sit-
uation concerning safety in that country.
But if the conditions improve there, then
there is no reason for not going in there
too. As far as countries where we would
like to succeed with our production, the
primary targets are Vietnam, Columbia
and Argentina and, of course, China.
Was the merger together with the
Ostroj Opava Electrical Division
a success and what was the reason
for it? You had already signed a co-
operation agreement on ame-proof
enclosures for H+R and supplying
service for equipment imported to
OKD
Ostroj Opava was interested in establish-
ing this company and had a 40 percent
share in the company. Later we acquired
its share in the company, but the coopera-
tion of course continued and it remains
the same today. When they supply props
and other mining equipment to a cus-
tomer, in most situations it is our company
which performs the electrical part.

What advantages for you result from
the fact that you are now part of the
Sicherheitstechnik A. G. holding?
Today we are such amature company that
we have our own know-how. When we
founded the company back in 1993, when
we needed to manufacture technologi-
cally advanced and competitive products,
our links with the corporation were very
advantageous because we had access to
documentation and technology which
would have been in accessible otherwise.
Today the situation is diferent and we
are capable of developing and ofering
the very best products. The frm is fully
independent.
It is estimated that, using currently
available technology, OKD at present
has reserves only for approximately
20 years within in its existing district.
Does this image of possible end of
mining provoke fear in you or are
you an optimist and believe that you
will mine in other places and more
advanced technology will be used in
the existing district which will enable
expansion of mining into places
which are di cult to reach today?
Firstly Ithink that mining in the Ostrava-
Karvin district will not come to an end
in 20 years time and I am 100 percent
convinced that the reserves of coal under
the Beskydy Mountains will be exploited.
Underground mining in the Czech Re-
public produces approximately 12 mil-
lion tonnes of coal per year, in Poland
this is over 80 million, in the Ukraine
too more than 80 million and in Russia
around 200million tonnes. Development
in mining is very promising in Turkey too,
where new pits are being dug, so Ihave
no fears for the future of work even for
our grandchildren.
You would certainly welcome the
opening of a mine in Frentt, where
there are only trial bores at the mo-
ment
Without adoubt. Using the latest techno-
logy, the coal under the Beskydy Moun-
tains can be mined in such away that both
the local inhabitants and tourists would
barely notice.
Do you think that the solution to the
matters at present, such as the min-
ing limits in Northern Bohemia or the
possible mining in the pit at Frentt,
may have been made easier by the
problems accompanying the renais-
sance of nuclear power in Europe
as a result of the recent events in
Fukushima in Japan?
Ihave been following media reports on
the events in Germany where the govern-
ment has promised to close its 17 reac-
tors within 10 years, so they will have no
choice but to buy coal or to launch their
own mining on amassive scale. You prob-
ably have to ask somebody else about
what the situation will be in our country.
Your biggest customers are miners
and the mining industry has not
been hit so badly by the crisis as
other segments of industry. How did
your company fare in the times of
recession?
After our record year in 2009, the volume
of production dropped by about 20 per-
cent, but we did not go into the red. Iwas
worried that the situation would last into
this year, but now we have quite the op-
posite problem because it seems that all
frms have started up at full speed and
we lack materials and components for
production. We have to wait longer than
we are used to for deliveries and we fnd
ourselves in dif culties because of this.
In some cases, due to a lack of several
components, we cannot meet manufac-
turing deadlines for goods worth millions
of crowns. Right now we are experiencing
acrisis of over-production which nobody
expected ayear or two ago.
You talk of problems with meeting
high demand: are you considering
increasing the numbers of employ-
ees and expanding your production
space
We have no other choice now than to
take on new employees because with
the current numbers we are not capable
of satisfying the extreme rise in demand
even if we compel them to doovertime.
Even so, we are late with our deliveries
and are unable to complete the agreed
contracts in Turkey, Russia and Mexico on
time. We just donot have the material.
Are you having di culties in nd-
ing enough qualied specialists or
has the recession helped you in this
aspect, when the job market has
been lled with so many capable
job-hunters?
We do not fnd ourselves in such prob-
lems, because we ofer very good terms.
When the word goes out in our region
that we are looking for aparticular type
of qualifed worker, several contenders
apply for each job and we can pick and
choose from the candidates.
OKD has now nished POP 2010; to
what extent did you participate in
this project?
We supplied the electrical equipment
for all combine coalfaces with longwall
technology. Cooperation with the Bucyrus
company went very well and also we
made avery good impression on them.

What are the main benefts from the
opening of the Debiensko mine?
The opening of the mine means a huge
cash injection for the local community,
and jobs for approximately 2,500 people.
In the community of Czerwionka-
-Leszczyny unemployment among those
aged between 18 to 27 runs at about
25percent, while the real unemployment
rate is defnitely more than 30 percent. So
Im not surprised that we receive about
5060 job applications daily. As of today we have over 3,000 of them
and, in addition we receive alot of inquiries.
How much will the mine cost?
Approximately EUR 350400 million. Iestimate that about half of this
amount will be spent on demolition, renovation and construction
work. We intend to employ many local companies for the construction
of the mine. Certainly the demolition, construction, electrical, mining
and waterworks companies in our community and surrounding areas
will beneft from this project.
Will NWR Karbonia support inhabitants who may be afected by
mining operations?
Yes, of course, and in fact we are already doing this. Also we have
a lot of inquiries regarding this matter. It is very important that we
help residents who may be afected by mining. Under Polish law,
aminer which intends to carry on such activities is obliged to prevent
and mitigate the efects of this mining. That's why we have launched
asystem to help residents of threatened areas. Everyone who wants
to build in these areas and knows that they may be afected by
mining activities has the right to apply to us for fnancial support
to strengthen the foundations of their house to prevent the efects
of any anticipated subsidence. People bring us maps of their land
and we compare them with the plans that we have. Then we form
an opinion on whether the house will be exposed to damage of the
frst, second or third category, or whether it will remain un afected
by mining. Through the discussions and agreements between the
experts hired by residents and our specialists we achieve consensus.
One can get up to 35,000 zlotys. We receive between 100 and 120
such requests per year, but we only pay when the house has been
built and the roof goes on.

FutureMotion Initiative
In the Czech Republic, CEZ Group compa-
nies generate and distribute electricity
and heat, engage in electricity trading,
mine coal, and supply natural gas. CEZ
Group is also developing operations
outside the Czech Republic, focusing in
particular on the markets of Central and
South-eastern Europe, where we can ap-
ply our unique expertise in managing an
electricity conglomerate during a period
of transition to a liberalized power
market and leverage our know-how.
CEZ Group focuses primarily on markets
where it already has some form of
operations, as well as on the renewables
sector.
Outside the Czech Republic, CEZ Group
currently has actively operating compa-
nies in Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Poland,
the Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Serbia, and
Slovakia. In Albania, CEZ Group operates
the countrys sole distribution company.
In Bulgaria, CEZ Group distributes and
sells electricity in the western part of the
country and generates power in its own
coal-fred power plant near Varna, the
Black Sea port city. In Romania, CEZ Group
engages in distribution and sale, operates
the Fntnele wind farm and, nearby,
is building the Cogealac wind farm.
In Poland, two black coal-fred power
plants near the countrys border with the
Czech Republic are part of CEZ Group.
In Germany, the Group co-owns with
a partner a brown coal-mining com-
pany that includes coal and wind power

plants. In Turkey, CEZ Group and its local
partner operate adistribution company,
generate electricity, and are preparing to
build new power plants. In Slovakia, CEZ
Group sells electricity and natural gas to
end customers and is teaming with alo-
cal partner to build anew nuclear power
plant at the Jaslovsk Bohunice site.
Companies in the remaining countries
carry on electricity wholesale operations,
function as holding companies, or engage
in fnancing activities. Throughout Central
and South-eastern Europe, CEZ Group
engages in wholesale trading in electricity
and natural gas.
To ensure the CEZ Groups business con-
tinues to be successful in the future, it
is necessary to renew the generation
portfolio. CEZ Group is investing, and
will continue to invest, signifcant sums in
upgrading aging Czech brown coal power
plants and building new, high-ef ciency
plants in the Czech Republic. In 2010,
CEZ Group expanded its generation mix
by adding solar power plants. The frst
containers were successfully installed in
the newly-built spent fuel storage facility
in Temeln. Power plant upgrades and new
power plants are also planned in Hungary,
Germany, Turkey, and Slovakia.
FutureMotion
Initiative
In June 2009,
we launched
an initiative entitled FutureMotion the
Energy of Tomorrow with the objective of
securing along-term stable and positive
outlook for EZ, a. s. and the Czech power
industry, help people lead comfortable
and safe lives, minimize environmental
burden and, at the same time, help the
Czech Republic to build a knowledge
economy. The initiative consists of sev-
eral programs:
Environmental Investments
2010 saw the launch of aproject to de-
velop electro mobility in cooperation with
PEUGEOT ESK REPUBLIKA s.r.o. The goal
of the partnership is to work together on
promoting electric cars, gain practical
experience in their day-to-day operation,
and support the further development
of electro mobility. PEUGEOT ESK RE-
PUBLIKA s.r.o. is providing 10 iOn vehicles
under lease in 2011 and another 55 vehi-
cles in 2012. CEZ Group agrees to build
anetwork of over 150 charging stations.
Abusiness plan was drafted for the Solid
Biofuels project, which will focus on pos-
sibilities for utilizing biomass in CEZ Group
power plants, both in terms of plant tech-
nology and biomass procurement.
Small-scale Cogeneration
The area of small-scale cogeneration has
become astandard process at EZ, a. s. It
involves searching for and assessing busi-
ness opportunities as well as preparing
for construction. Tenders are underway
to select suppliers of cogeneration units.
Smart Grids
As part of the Smart Region project, an
agreement was signed with the City of
Vrchlab in north-eastern Bohemia where
the project is located. We completed re-
search and development studies neces-
sary for project execution (automated
smart grid elements and the dynamic
model), and work is ongoing to study
island operation in the area in question.
The frst smart elements already were
installed; modifcations to distribution
transformer stations to support smart
meters installation are ongoing.
During year 2011, the project calls for
33,000 households and small businesses
to be outftted with smart electric me-
ters. In the next fve years, electric car
infrastructure to be built and local power
sources to be ef ciently integrated into
the grid.

EZ Men, s.r.o. (CEZ
Metering services Ltd)
EZ Mereni, s.r.o., was established in or-
der to detach and centralize electricity
metering services originally provided by
regional distribution companies. Now it
provides services in the following areas:
installation and operation of electric
meters and switching elements,
collection, processing and administra-
tion of data,
electric meter administration services,
repairs and inspections of electric me-
ters,
handling and prevention of unauthor-
ised take-ofs.
EZ Men is main contributor to smart
metering project of EZ Group.
The first smart
metering pilot project
(AMM I)
First pilot project was started in 2006 in
order to verify suitability of new tech-
nologies in the field. Target of this pro-
ject was to evaluate capability of current
state of the smart metering technology
metering functions, data acquisition,
transfer and processing. Under pressure
of EU, we were gathering know-how for
prospective implementation of acom-
prehensive automated metering system.
Technical or legislative conditions are
specific to each country, thus real test
in Czech environment was necessary.
The project was implemented on
1,900 metering points, in 3 different
geographical locations, by 3 different
suppliers (of both meters and MDM).
Due to apurely technological focus of
the project we dropped off full integra-
tion of these 3 systems with CEZ Group
legacy systems.
Various limits for reliable system op-
eration were identified during meter
deployment. Some customer habits, like
switching off the main home breaker
(installed in front of meter) when leav-
ing house for avacation, definitely re-
duces functionality of whole system.
On the other hand, meter installation
times matched our expectations and
we confirmed that smart meter instal-
lation time is about the same as for con-
ventional meter. Reaction times were
analysed during operational phase and
assessed as satisfactory readings and
commands were executed in less than
acouple of minutes, with success rate
over 98 %.
This pilot project definitely confirmed
basic capabilities of smart grid system
and helped us to set requirements for
metering functions of new system, and
for narrowband PLC, 868 MHz RF and
GPRS communication technologies.
Scope of the pilot project clearly lim-
ited validity of gained knowledge, thus
verification of logistics, deployment and
operation procedures for bulk installa-
tion was not possible.
Based on this experience, it was rec-
ommended to run Wide pilot project
(WPP AMM) with scope around 1 %
of total number of DSOs metering
points. Such project should prove
smart metering technology from
large scale deployment perspective
Hypotheses were set in areas of:
operational grid management with
focus on performance, reliability and
security of supply;
remote change of TOU;
optimisation of low-voltage distribu-
tion grid in terms of losses;
data utilization for repair and fault
management;
customer behaviour, especially per-
ception of new tariff and services;
system support for dynamic tariffs
(distribution, sales);
load estimation;
ICT support;
investment and operational costs
Wide pilot project
automated meter
management ( WPP
AMM or AMM II)
As mentioned in above paragraph, wider-
scale project was required to provide ad-
ditional information for qualifed assess-
ment of business, technical and fnancial
parameters of prospective full-scale im-
plementation of smart metering system.
The aim of WPP AMM project is to verify
logistic procedures, metering system
security, technological and economical
assumptions and the impact of smart
metering system extensive deployment
on end customers. The project will pro-
vide information not only for internal
use within the CEZ Group, but also for
evaluation of smart meters deployment
in national level - outputs from our project
are demanded by Ministry of trade, who
is responsible for preparation of National
study assessment of all costs and ben-
efts of smart metering for Czech republic
and recommendation of best deployment
scenario.
Last but not least, the project will vali-
date the basic functionality for a Smart
Grid future.
Three closed technical areas in the grid
were selected for AMM II project; each
area is fed by 110kV/35kV (22kV) trans-
former station and supplies tens of thou-
sands metering points:
JEMANICE area covers highlands with
numerous small villages. Climatic de-
manding conditions are given by higher
altitude and its North-west location
PARDUBICE area has alowland character
with a large city (about 100 thousand
inhabitants) and several small suburban
municipalities around.
VRCHLAB is a small size city (approx
13 thousand inhabitants) just under
Krkonoe Mountain (Giant Mountain)
in northern Bohemia. Vrchlab is also
known as aSmart region as it was se-
lected for our smart grid pilot project.
Approx. 800 distribution transformer sta-
tions (DTS) and almost 70 000 metering
points cover those three areas. 14 sub-
areas were selected in order to optimize
the project budget approx. 500 DTSs
will be fully equipped with smart meter-

ing technology (incl. summary meter,
data concentrator, router, UPS) and smart
meters will be installed on nearly 34,000
measuring points behind that DTSs. Re-
maining 300 DTSs are to be equipped
only with I&C meter and communication
technology to enable data transfer to data
centre. That coverage guarantees basic
network management functions (balance
calculation, load monitoring ).
Diferent communication technologies
are tested (GPRS, 3G, RF, PLC, BPL, WAN) to
evaluate their parameters (speed, latency,
reliability ) under diferent conditions
(e.g. city vs. rural areas).
Consortium of HP, Landis+Gyr, Schrack
Technik, TranstechCZ (ADD), Czech com-
pany ZPA (and approx 20 other connected
vendors / service providers) won apublic
tender for AMM II project.
Consortium provides blueprint design,
detailed design, development, testing,
project management, delivers all tech-
nical elements required for metering,
data transfer, processing and evaluation.
Software licences (for MDM, HES, event
handler, communication management
and monitoring systems) are also under
contract, integration to our legacy sys-
tems is in the scope of the project as well
(DMS, SAP, WFM, etc.).
Once blueprint had been fnished, trial
installation was provided. Basic MDM
installation, 4 DTSs (1 per meter vendor)
and a dozen of meters per vendor be-
hind each DTS (ADD, EMH, L+G and ZPA)
enables to verify initial system set up and
parameters and therefore mitigate risks
associated with large-scale deployment.
Meters are being deployed since May and
should be fnished till December 2011.

Multi-utility meter
reading
Communication platform is a key suc-
cessful factor for smart metering as it
enables data transfer from meter to
data centre.
Apart from GPRS and RF, power line
communication (PLC) is widely used in
smart applications. PLC gives unique
advantage to electricity distributor
direct connection with every point of
consumption. Sharing of that commu-
nication channel would be beneficial
for other utilities, who supply house
flat with other energies gas, water,
heat. Avoiding parallel communication
infrastructure, simple standardised pro-
tocols, shared network management
tools and other technical aspects could
offer cheaper service for customers.
EZ is building Smart region in Vrchlab
where all elements of new smart tech-
nologies will be tested:
smart grid - reliable, automated, self-
healing and effectively controlled
distribution network
integration of combined heat and
power generation units and renewa-
bles into the network
smart metering, including web based
portal for data visualisation
integration of e-car
Smart metering project are usually
focused on electricity meter reading.
Uniquely in Vrchlab, we have selected
one tenement for multiutility meter
reading micro-pilot. Each from 40 flats
will be equipped with:
Landis+Gyr smart electricity meter
E350 data are sent via PLC to concen-
trator. GPRS or WAN connection will
be used based on actual parameters
to send data to data centre
Landis+Gyr smart gas meter G350 Li-
bra data are sent via wireless M-BUS
to the electricity meter
Bonega water meters, ready for M-
BUS communication pulses from
both meters (hot & cold) are red by
proprietary communication unit. This
unit then provides wireless M-BUS
connection with electricity meter
Siemens heat consumption indicator,
remotely red by proprietary 868MHz
communication each radiator is
equipped with an indicator. Indicator
measures relative heat consumption
and send data via proprietary 868MHz
connection. Siemens concentrator col-
lects all data and send them to Byt-
therm data centre
Apart from meter installed in each flat,
house is also equipped with:
central heat meter - in case of tene-
ment houses, contract for heat sup-
ply is not closed between heat pro-
ducer and each flat, but between heat
producer and house owner (facility
management company in this case).
House owner then allocates cost of
heat to each individual flat. Based on
Czech legislation, 60 % of costs are
allocated by flat area and 40% are
allocated based on data from heat
consumption indicators
central water meter - in case of tene-
ment houses, contract for water supply
is not closed between the utility com-
pany and each flat, but between the
utility and the house owner. Allocation
to flats is done by in-flat meters.

tion of cold water, which is in central
exchanger turned into hot water, and
consumption of heat used to warm up
the water, are measured separately.
Such system of cost allocation also
cover heat energy which is used to
keep the water warm and ready for use
(hot water circulates in house pipeline
system and is continuously re-heated)
Key elements of technical solution are
delivered by Landis+Gyr, local Czech
companies also co-operates on our
project.
Local company Byttherm plays an im-
portant role in this micro-pilot. It offers
services for facility management com-
panies water meter readings, heat
indicator readings and cost allocation. In
our project, main role of Byttherm is in
area of data visualisation. Data red from
all smart meters are transferred to byt-
therm data centre. All customers from
multiutility house than can check their
consumption electricity consumption
is updated every hour, other utilities
each day. Discussion with customers
and surveys are also part of our project.
We need to exploit their expectations,
willingness to follow market trends etc.
Participating on EZ futur/e/motion
project, small village Vrchlab, located
under beautiful Krkonoe Mountain,
has joined VIP club of other smart re-
gions like Boulder, Malaga, Amsterdam
or Mannheim.

Real potential in
demand side load
management
As 2009/72 EC Directive says, Member
States shall ensure the implementation of
intelligent metering systems that shall as-
sist the active participation of consumers
in the electricity supply market.
An assessment could be provided, as
apart of it benefts for customer can be
evaluated. What beneft you, as an end
electricity consumer, expect from smart
metering?
Another part of mentioned Directive says,
that The DSO shall be responsible for
ensuring ... asecure, reliable and ef cient
electricity distribution system . Only
smart meter is not a universal solution
of that task. Smart meter, as a part of
asmart grid defnitely will increase reli-
ability of the grid. Smart meter will be-
come eyesand handsof smart grid it
will provide actual (and on-line in dream
solution) data about energy consumption
and quality of distribution, it will be able
to manage load on other side.
More visible for household end-consumer
are personal benefts our surveys have
proven that price (cost of supply) is akey.
So customers active participation can be
understood as implementation of such
functionalities, which allow them to check
their consumption over time and based
on current market conditions choose
proper product / tarif or change their
behaviour in order to save energy bill.
Some countries, like Czech Republic, Slo-
vakia or Austria, have been using ripple
control system for more than 50 years.
Such system enables electricity consump-
tion to be more evenly distributed in the
grid (and thus lowers costs). This efect
is achieved by switching and turning of
electrical devices like heating, air-con-
ditions or water heating, but e.g. street
light as well. The system is primarily de-
signed for switching of tarifs of electricity
metering (high and low tarif). In Czech
Republic, more than 50% of electricity
consumption in households and SME
segment is controlled by ripple control.
Implementation of smart metering will
defnitely increase functionality of de-
mand side load management. We ex-
pect that future development of smart
technologies will bring better tools for
load management, e.g. to switch even
individual appliances. Together with web
based customer portal, where individual
consumption will be visualised, we will
provide complex ofer to our customer.
On a top of that smart bundle will be
special two-tarif which should test con-
sumers willingness to move part of their
consumption form peak hours to another
day or night time.
Technical potential of this consumption
shift is subject of investigation. As men-
tioned above, heating-type of consump-
tion is already under control, using ripple
control system. Picture on right / left side
show structure of remaining consumption
expected in average fat (central heating,
gas stove). We probably can divide those
types of consumption into two groups:
- fxed lights are switched on when
necessary, food is prepared when re-
quired, TV is switched on to watch
football match, freezer runs almost
continuously
- fexible you can manage some back-
of ce procedures of your home and
for example iron your shirts or run
dishwasher machine in of-peak hours
Try to measure consumption of your
fridge and other fexible appliances.
Your estimates of demand side load man-
agement, apart from heating, will not
bring any amazing number. Pessimists
say that average family, using smart me-
tering system, will save 2 5 % of their
electricity bill.
Conclusion? Demand side management
is not area where Czech Republic can
beneft from implementation of smart
metering technology. More attention
should be paid in area of smart grids. But,

A Brief Czech History
ABB was in at the birth of the Czech
Republic, registering fve companies by

control systems for transmission and

Discrete Automation The focus

and technology for wind farms and

Successes
Its fair to say that ABB s.r.o. is amarket leader in some of its prod-
ucts and services. Two examples: almost every Czech household
and building contains aswitch, socket or other device from the
wiring accessories unit at Jablonec nad Nisou; and the medium
voltage unit at Brno is the biggest worldwide factory for MV
instrument transformers with 90 % of its production going for
export. As beftting its position in the feld, the company has been
involved in some signifcant projects, both at home and abroad.
ABB robots have automated unpacking and packing of glasses
for food manufacturer Hams logistics centre in Star Msto.
Having provided both the hardware and the software, ABB have
ensured that no glass is touched by human hands.
The Dukovany nuclear power station in the Vysoina region has
opted to completely retroft its medium-voltage switchgear with

ABB s.r.o. is one of the suppliers to the Khalifa Tower project in
Dubai, providing switchgear equipment to manage air-con-
ditioning, lighting and communications in the world famous
828-metre high building.
Amore local (and more unusual project) is the creation of alake
in Most. An old open-cast coal mine has left a70m deep pit. In
order to stabilise the sides and surrounding hills, ABB is helping
to pump water from the Ohe river, 24km away which will result
in arecreational lake, 311 hectares in area.
The secret to these successes, says Hannu Kasi, is ...defnitely the
professional level of our employees and hiring the right people.
Going back to the history of our company in the Czech market,
we invested in good acquisitions that ft our group profle and
gave us agood, strong position. Therefore that attracted good
employees. The strategic acquisitions continue, in 2010, the
Polovodice semiconductor business joined ABB, boosting their
smart grid and energy ef ciency capabilities two key growth
areas for the future.
Into The Future
Just like any other business, ABB in the Czech Republic felt the
economic impact of 2008-09 but 2010 has seen agreat improve-
ment in fortunes with arecord 10 billion CZK worth of orders. Not
quite at pre-Crisis levels overall but business is climbing steadily
and Hannu Kasi is content that the worst is over and future plans
are suitably ambitious.
Capital investment will double in motors and generators and
robotics repair (including the construction of anew 8000 square
metre facility in Ostrava in 2012). The medium voltage global
competence centre in Brno will also be further developed to
consolidate its world-class status. And, of course, ABB s.r.o. will
remain on the lookout for acquisition opportunities, primarily in
the areas of smart grids and energy ef ciency technology the
two main growth priorities.
Ultimately though, Hannu Kasi sees ABBs people as the main
current and future asset. We are hoping that the best brains are
coming into our industry, looking at energy ef ciency young
people want to fx the world and that gives me alot of hope.

Setting an Example for Europes TSOs
The Elia Group operates across Belgium
and Germany, acting as Belgiums trans-
mission system operator (TSO) and as
of May last year has a 60 % stake in the
German TSO 50Hertz Transmission. Chief
Financial Officer Mr. Jan Gesquiere talks
to Gabrielle Brown about Elias excep-
tional position as perhaps one of the
most entrepreneurial TSOs in Europe.
In May last year Elia took a pioneering
step for aTSO, by acquiring asignifcant
portion of another Germanys 50Hertz
Transmission. Elia is avery dynamic, even
entrepreneurial, TSO. The fact that we
have taken over another TSO means we
can be seen to be an example of how
aTSO can successfully attract investment,
says Mr. Gesquiere.
This is a signifcant boast given recent
studies into the investment needed in
Europes TSOs if they are to meet the 2020
objectives set by the European Commis-
sion, namely to achieve 20 % renewable
energies, a 20 % reduction in emissions
and a 20 % improvement in energy ef-
fciency. The activities of Europes TSOs
today will prove fundamental to how
Europe manages and maintains its energy
systems for decades to come. Forecasts
show that an investment of 100 billion
over the next ten years is needed to en-
able each TSO to establish and manage
the infrastructure necessary to meet the
2020 objectives. Its a huge amount of
money, so the challenge for Europe is to
determine how to attract and regulate
investments into TSOs, says Mr. Gesquiere.
Discussions regarding how to attract and
regulate investments into Europes TSOs
are ongoing. You can attract equity or
debt. On the equity side, regulators need
to see what will be an appropriate re-
turn for the investors. For example, Elia is
a52 %listed company, whereas in other
countries the government has 100 %
ownership. So, how can investments be
made in such situations? How can you
realize your investments in line with at-
tracting investment? This is going to be
a big topic for debate and movement
over the next 2 5 years, and it could
mean looking to the European Investment
Bank for support, says Mr. Gesquiere. One
aspect to the debate is the infuence of
rating agencies, who have swung from
being optimistic about the potential of

TSOs to now being notably negative.
Preferably, the ratings should show more
of an equilibrium, says Mr. Gesquiere.
Coordinating Europes
Energy Systems
At the forefront of ensuring the 2020 goals
are met is ENTSO-E the European Net-
work of Transmission System Operators.
The body comprises 42 member TSOs
from 34 countries and operates as the
hub for activities focused on integrating
the European electricity market, improv-
ing and securing the transmission sys-
tem and contributing to enabling asus-
tainable energy supply. Elia has always
had a strong presence within ENTSO-E,
notably Daniel Dobbeni, Elias CEO, was
appointed as the frst the President of
ENTSO-E in December 2008.
Whereas ENTSO-E has a strategic focus,
Elia is also heavily involved in CORESO,
an independent company comprising
engineering professionals from across
Western Europe who combine expertise
to develop and improve technologies to
achieve a safe and constant fow of en-
ergy across the grids. CORESO is apurely
technical company whose main aim is
to anticipate the energy fow, see where
there is congestion, and then determine
how best to address that technologically
on a Europe-wide scale. It would be in
everyones interests if CORESO expanded
to include more members, independent
of the TSOs. As energy becomes increas-
ingly generated by renewable sources the
energy fow becomes ever more dif cult
to balance for example, you cannot pre-
dict or control when the wind is going to
blow! We need CORESO to have as broad
and as great aview as possible.

Aside from contributing to Europe-fo-
cused activities, Elia is presently adjusting
its operations to incorporate its newly

not amerger we still must align our focus,
and make the most of shared strengths
see where there are positive synergies
across the operations and then there
are the diferences in Germanys energy
regulations that we must now work with
across the Group.
In the last six months Elia has reshaped
its organization by forming a separate
research and development knowledge
department. This is indicative of our com-
mitment to R&D, and again to our aspira-
tion to be a front-runner and example
to the European Commission, says Mr.
Gesquiere.
Testing Times
Recently energy players the world over
have faced a somewhat unanticipated
yet seemingly urgent challenge in the
aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear
power plant crisis in Japan. Germany
shut down seven of its nuclear reactors,
amove which perhaps was indicative of
arenewed nervousness spreading across
Europe. Like Germany other countries will
review their nuclear power, but its dif cult
for us to say how this will happen; and the
consequences will vary country to coun-
try. Germany only had a20 % dependency
on nuclear power, but somewhere like
France, where its closer to 80 %, cannot
aford to act hastily. This brings us back to
the task of balancing and managing the
energy fows across Europe, so that one
resource can act as acheck and balance
to the other. Its not going to be easy to
solve, and alot of political encouragement
will be needed.
As Elias CFO Mr. Gesquieres day-to-day
tasks are typically related to managing
the fnances in view of the 50Hertz ac-
quisition, improving fnancial reporting
models, and playing his part in promoting
investment in TSOs. However, it is the big-
ger picture and Elias role as afront-runner
TSO that really directs his work. Its an
exhilarating time to be working for aTSO,
and it will be for the next 10years. Meet-
ing the 2020 renewables objectives is
impossible without the TSOs. The energy
landscape across the whole of Europe is
being reshaped, and its exciting to be
part of it.

HETTICH CR k.s.
Part of the Family
With over a century in business,
a handful of simple business values and
a family approach, the Hettich Group
has spread across the globe. One of its
more recent relations is in the Czech
Republic.
The Hettich Group has companies on
most continents. The distinctive primary
colour logo can be seen in the United
States, Australia, India, China and since
1993 the Czech Republic. Not bad for
an organisation that is still family-run 123
years after it was founded in Schramberg,
a small town in Germanys Black Forest
region. With anaturally low public profle,
it is quite possible not to have heard the
name before, but if you have ever admired
your soft-closing kitchen drawer or the
clever fttings in your Ikea fat-pack, you
may already own aHettich product with-
out even knowing it. Although expansion
has seen aquiet crossover into supplying
the automotive and electronics industries,
Hettichs primary focus is still furniture
hardware; hence the motto: Technik fr
Mbel. Horst Blom is the Managing Di-
rector of Hettich CR k.s. and he spoke
to Trade & Investment from the heart
of the Vysoina district, on behalf of the
companys 600-strong workforce.
Hettich History
When asked about himself, the frst thing
Horst Blom says is that he is married and
his two daughters have families of their
own. This sense of priority fts well with
Hettichs own. The Group still describes
itself as the Familienunternehmen Het-
tich, or the Hettich family enterprise. As
Horst says, We Germans are proud of
our family-owned businesses; you dont
hear and see alot about them, but they
perform well. A key factor in that per-
formance is continuity. The current head
of the Group Dr.Andreas Hettich, who
took over as Managing Partner in 2005
is the great-grandson of founder, Karl.
His predecessor, Anton may have relin-
quished many of the day-to-day busi-
ness responsibilities, but he maintains
a close interest; after all, one can leave
ajob without abackward glance, but in
a family, responsibility is handed from
one generation to the next and as the
new takes up the reins, so the old ofers
the wisdom of experience; Anton Hettich
chairs the Groups advisory board.
The four parts of the Hettich logo stand
for quality, innovation, customer focus
and reliability and these values have their
roots in the companys 19th century ori-
gins. In 1888, Karl Hettich applied his en-
gineering ingenuity to mechanising the
production of anchor escapements for
cuckoo clocks (the anchor escapement
is the part of the clock that keeps the
pendulum swinging and the timekeeping
steady). On this, Karl founded asuccessful
business which was to stay in Schramberg
for forty years. During this time, Karls son
Franz took over and it was he who began
the manufacture of hinges, starting along
tradition of supplying the furniture trade.
The date of birth of the modern Het-
tich Group is 1930, when Franzs brother
shrewdly moved north and established
Paul Hettich GmbH in the town of Herford,
in Germanys North Rhine-Westphalia;
the then centre of the German furniture
industry. It was from here that the Group
grew from simply manufacturing hinges
and screws and through acquisitions
and diversifcations became the global
concern it is today. In 2011, the Groups
headquarters is still in Herford not sim-
ply aprominent local employer but also
part of local history, Hettich has been
employing Herford citizens for almost
acentury.
And So To The Czech
Republic
In 1993, shortly after the so-called vel-
vet revolution (fall of communism), the
Czech Republic and Slovakia quietly went
their separate ways. Such asituation al-
ways provides opportunities and Hettich
had two motivations for seeking to estab-
lish aCzech branch of the family. First was
the relatively low labour costs an attrac-
tion to any business but the then senior
owner, Anton, also wanted to support the
Czech Republics process of change and
thereby play a role in bringing the new
country into aunited western Europe.
With this in mind, the production com-
pany Hettich CR k.s. was established in
dr nad Szavou, well known as being
acentre of industry as well as apopular
ski resort. Initially, it was abasic manufac-
turing facility, funnelling parts to the German companies
within the Group. However, as Horst Blom tells it, It started
as a labour-intensive business, but then we understood
that we had skilled people here and we expanded and
invested in more modern machinery and equipment. and
after aproduction-doubling investment in 2006, todays
output now covers awide range of furniture components
such as hinges and sliding door mechanisms and others
from materials such as die-cast zinc, synthetics, steel and
aluminium. As well as continuing to supply their German
relations, other customers include the Czech furniture
industry, vendors of iron goods, bespoke carpenters, and
also the major DIY chains.
Family Pride
When asked what Hettich CR is proud of, Horst Blom is not
short of answers. Other than the successful business itself,
their ISO 9001 quality standard and that recent doubling of
production, the Czech Governments Labour Department
has awarded the company the status of Safety Enterprise
as part of ahealth & safety scheme. Perhaps the biggest
source of pride is that the company was named Regional
Employer of the Year in 2005, and gained third place in
both 2008 and 2010, maintaining Hettichs position in the
top ranks of people-focused companies. Horst sees the
600 people at the Vysoina facility as people to work with
rather than simply manage and believes that the feeling
is mutual. Ipersonally see the fact that our health rate*
is 97.5 % as an indicator of peoples commitment.
*[Hettich CR uses ahealth rate to monitor absence rather
than the more usual sick rate.]
Looking Forward
Despite the impact of the recent economic crisis on sales,
the Hettich Group as awhole is looking for more expan-
sion and Horst is excited about the focus on new product
development which is set to be showcased at the upcom-
ing Interzum trade fair in Cologne in May: Iam absolutely
convinced its going to be abig event for Hettich!
As for Hettich CR, as well as their contribution to the priori-
ties of the global family, amore local concern is the efort
they are putting into employee education. Hettichs drive
for innovation and quality means that the equipment
they use for production is more advanced than that used
by the state-run apprenticeship training scheme. This,
together with the lowering Czech birthrate and drop in
numbers of school-leavers means that there is adif culty
in recruiting appropriately-trained people. Hettich takes it
upon itself to provide that training and bring the skills of
new staf up to alevel at which they can fully contribute to
the Familienunternehmen. As Horst says, We doconsider
ourselves one of the best in the world. and agood family
looks after its own.

VERBUND
Leading the Way in Hydro Power
VERBUND is Austrias leading energy sup-
plier, employing nearly 3,000 staff and
producing 40 % of Austrias total electric-
ity requirements. 90 % of the energy it
creates comes from hydro power, which
represents the second highest propor-
tion in Europe. The company achieved
aturnover of 3.5bn in 2009, and runs
137 power stations. Outside of Austria,
VERBUND has heavily invested in several
key markets, holding shares in the fol-
lowing companies: Poweo (France, 46 %),
Sorgenia (Italy, 45 %), EnerjiSA (Turkey,
50 %), and Energji Ashta (Albania 50 %).
With dwindling fossil fuel resources and
increasing demand for power, VERBUND
is striving to become the leading hydro
power supplier in Europe, making signifi-
cant investments over the next five years
to achieve this goal.
Investing into the
Future
Investment is high on the agenda for
VERBUND. Having recently invested in
selected international markets such as
France and Turkey, the company is now fo-
cusing on becoming the leading provider
of electricity from hydro power in Europe.
To this end, it will be investing 2.4bn
over the next fve years, alarge share of
which will be spent on increasing capac-
ity within Austria. In 2009, the company
already acquired 13 hydro power plants
in Bavaria, Germany, increasing produc-
tion by 7 %. Furthermore, VERBUND is
advocating the use of highly ef cient and
environment-friendly CCGT (Combined
Cycle Gas Turbine) plants in Europe, hav-
ing launched one in France in 2009, one in
Italy as well as one in Turkey in 2010 and
currently constructing one more in Italy.
In terms of hydro power stations, VER-
BUND is currently running 123 plants
in Austria and Bavaria, with acombined
output of 7,500 MW. Further plants are
under construction in Austria which will
add another 520 MW when completed,
and afurther 1,395 MW worth of power
stations are in the planning stages at the
moment. Add to this another 1,100 MW
from plants under construction with its
partners in France, Italy, Albania and Tur-
key, and it becomes clear that VERBUND
is set on achieving its goals.

ment-friendly. By increasing the output of
our existing power stations and construct-
ing more ef cient new ones, in particu-
lar those driven by hydro power, we are
creating energy that is low or free from
CO
2
emissions; in addition, we are keen to
explore new applications and technolo-
gies such as electric mobility and energy
management.
To further strengthen the company and
increase its fnancial fexibility to enable
the planned investments, VERBUND has
realized acapital increase of 1bn in No-
vember 2010. Listed on the Vienna and
Frankfurt Stock Exchange, the Austrian
government holds a51 % majority stake,
which it will continue to dofollowing the
increase.
Austrian Mobile Power
As the No.1 electricity producer in Austria,
VERBUND takes its environmental respon-
sibility very seriously and participates
actively in initiatives for electric mobil-
ity. Having teamed up with Magna and
Siemens Austria, VERBUND has founded
the open platform Austrian Mobile Power,
which is aiming to revolutionise the future
of transportation by helping to put at least
200,000 electric cars on Austrias roads
over the next decade.
One of the key challenges of the 21st
century is the rising demand for energy,
Ms Schurin outlines. Current prognoses
predict a 45 % increase in demand by
2030, making it ever more vital to secure
the supply, as at the same time reserves of
fossil fuels will begin to dry up. This is why
we, along with our partners, see electric
mobility as THE technology to keep us
moving in the future provided that the
power required to run the vehicles can be
sourced using renewable energy. Out of
the 4.3m cars currently registered in Aus-
tria, 200,000 will run on electricity by 2020.
Visions for a Greener
Future
VERBUND is increasingly focusing its ef-
forts on innovation, research and develop-
ment in order to increase the proportion
of renewable sources of energy in the
overall energy mix in Europe currently
dominated by fossil fuels. The key areas
of focus are electric mobility and hydro
power, and the company is taking alead-
ership role in fnding innovative solutions
for an energy system that satisfes the
increasing demand in a cost-efective
way, without causing strain on the en-
vironment. VERBUND is in a position to
supply a signifcant proportion of the
required energy for new applications in
Austria using renewable resources. For
instance, by 2015 it will be able to provide
an additional 1bn kWh from local renew-
able sources enough to power 500,000
electric cars.
Ines Schurin: Anot altogether distant vi-
sion we are pursuing is an energy system
that is made up of amixture of central and
decentralised production units (such as
solar cells on individual homes), which
will be controlled by asmart grid with
smart meters. We are actively working
with research facilities and trade partners
on making this type of power system of
the future areality.

Sales by 75 Percent
with IBM Smarter
Commerce Software in
the Cloud
IBM announced that S&S Worldwide
grew recommendation sales 75 percent
in just three months with IBM Smarter
Commerce software in the cloud. S&S is
anational distributor of sporting goods
products for recreation, health care, and
education professionals and is using IBM
software to drive personalized product
recommendation sales via its Web sites.
S&S Worldwide had been using anative
application to serve up generic product
recommendations on its Web site that
accounted for only 5 percent of all online
sales. But consumers today expect clear
relevance to their interests at every step of
the online shopping experience. Personal-
ized product recommendations help meet
that demand and generate asubstantial
revenue lift for the company.
Using IBMs Smarter Commerce software
that delivers cloud-based analytics and
marketing personalization, S&S product
recommendations sales for its art supplies
and sporting goods oferings surged to
9.8 percent of all Web sales in just three
months, adramatic improvement. At the
same time, product views shot up 24 per-
cent and viewing sessions increased 30
percent.
Through its Smarter Commerce initiative,
IBM is taking the lead in helping organi-
zations like S&S Worldwide respond to
market shifts in real-time by automating
marketing, selling and fulfllment, and
creating aconsistent global brand expe-
rience. By tracking consumer trends and
sentiment and interacting with customers
in new ways, companies can strengthen
their connections to their customers and
improve their business processes.
Customers across industries will share
their success stories at IBMs annual
Smarter Commerce Global Summit, which
takes place this year September 19-21 in
San Diego.
The IBM solution at S&S Worldwide in-
tegrates data and predictive analytics to
generate site merchandising. It analyzes
key information at each point in the online
shopping process, such as tracking all visi-
tor preferences. The system is then able
to analyze that data to automate product
ofers to other customers with similar
behavior on the site. This gives returning
customers the ability to view products
they previously showed an interest in, and
it also allows S&S Worldwide to cross-sell
and up-sell related products.
The results have been quite impressive
with the IBM Smarter Commerce cloud
service. The recommendations have led
directly to amuch more tailored and com-
pelling customer experience, said Will
Bender, web merchandising manager
at S&S Worldwide. Were now able to
make decisions and track results very
thoroughly based on data not what we
think should be on the site, but what the
data tells us.
