Bias is opinion and is presented as liking one opinion more than another. 3. a. Government can use media to make sure their authority is not threatened. So, the country can be stable. b. Companies that want to sell their goods. c. Scientists can be biases because they dont want to waste resources. Scientists can lose their research money if they dont agree with the opinions of the people giving them money to do research. d. Newspapers can be biased because they want to sell newspapers. Newspapers can charge more for advertising when they sell more newspapers.

Media Alert 1 There are many not long enough news reports. The news reporters cant get the peoples attention if the news is too long. So, sometimes the news doesnt have enough information. Media Alert 2 It is a reporters job to find the meaning behind the jargon (technical/professional words). Sometimes, news reporters dont explain jargon. Then they will not understand the news they are reporting. Media Alert 3 Media sometimes introduces information that may have bias. They introduce research before other people can confirm the results. So, we should look at the research before believing the news. Media Alert 4 People usually are mislead and scared because medias sensational report. Media reports scientific breakthroughs to make people worried. Therefore, we have to get to know the truth of the news clearly. Media Alert 5 Reporters should check their information and avoid making assumptions. When reporters make assumptions they get the news wrong. Media Alert 6

We cant understand things by looking at surveys. Sometimes the advertisement uses surveys that are not true. Sometimes the advertisement uses someone famous. But, we cant trust any one blindly.
