Subject: 4th Grade Prerequisite Knowledge: Knowledge of Mystudiyo and Prezi Approximate time for the entire lesson: Every day for a week for 50 minutes Student Objectives: The students will have a deep understanding of explorers through teaching the class, listening to other presentations, creating an original quiz, and taking other quizzes. The students will learn how to use Prezi. The students will learn how to create a quiz on mystudiyo.com. The students will be able to identify a good web source.

Illinois Standards: State Goal 16: Understand events, trends, individuals and movements shaping the history of Illinois, the United States and other nations. 16.A.2b Compare different stories about a historical figure or event and analyze differences in the portrayals and perspectives they present. 16.A.2c Ask questions and seek answers by collecting and analyzing data from historic documents, images, and other literary and non-literary sources. Materials/resources/technology: Computer, Internet, projector, http://prezi.com/,http://www.mystudiyo.com/ Implementation/Procedure: One the first day of the lesson, present the students with a list of explorers to chose from. Split the class into 5 groups. Assign one explorer per group. Explorers include the following: Vasco da Gama Ferdinand Magellan Sir Frances Drake Vasco Nunez de Balboa Bartolomeu Dias Tell the students that they will be using Prezi to make a presentation to present to the class. Tell the students that they must include a quick biography, what they are famous for, and how their exploration impacted their country and the world. On the second day of class, explain the difference between a reliable source and an unreliable source (.org, .gov, .edu). Take the students to the computer lab and

tell them that they must spend the next 45-50 minutes researching and creating their presentation. Have the students work on their research for the next day as well. On the fourth day, tell the students to make a quiz with 10 questions to present to the class after their presentation. Tell the students that they must have questions with the correct answer and three false answers. The answers should be one or two words. On the fifth day, have each group present their presentation. Let the students ask questions to the presenting group. After each presentation, have the group present the class with the quiz they created. Each group will collaborate and use a white board to write down their answer. They will raise their white board and when every board is raised the presenting group will click on the answer with the majority. Move through each of the 10 questions until the quiz is finished.
