In this paper I plan to explore the effect of non-violent programming in public education in limiting or eliminating violence in the educational

environment. This is interesting to me because I am involved in the Take Ten program and am wondering what the arguments for the effectiveness of such endeavors are. We did not have a non-violence program, other than DARE, in my elementary, middle, and high school experience. We had few physical acts of violence at my schools but there was never any mandatory teaching against other forms of violence. If programs such as these are effective they should be implemented everywhere, not just where there are numerous, physically violent, attacks. My intended audience is anyone who wants more information on the effects of non-violence education in public schooling. This may be educators, parents, but likely not the students themselves. The students and educators attending the schools may benefit from my research, should I find that these programs are indeed effective. Those in charge of implementing the programs are in the position to be persuaded, as well as the parents of the children who may learn, or who may be uselessly learning, about non-violent decision-making. I plan to use hard facts and sound-reasoning housed in a stable outline to convince my audience to see what I have discovered in the way I attempt to persuade them. I have found sources discussing violence in schools. I have also found sources discussing the concept of using non-violence to solve ones problems. I would like to find a source that combines these two topics, and I have found a promising book on this more specified subject. My audience will expect cold facts, stemming probably from tests and simulations done in public schools. I will search through novels in the library as well as trusted websites to find the numbers I need to support my reasoning. I will use Winks Facing the Myth of Redemptive Violence to discuss and refute the concept that people have that violence is both innate and inevitable. I will also use Gilligans Violence as Proof of Masculinity to counter argue the concept that boys express themselves through physical violence. I am having a little trouble finding information on my specific topic, when combining all of my general topics into one potential and complete source. I am concerned in finding the right and all the information I need. I need numbers and facts to base my argument on and, though I am sure enough to create an outline, I am worried that the tests I am searching for do not exist. I am sure that this is a subject that has been studied before, so I am banking on that for the numbers and studies that I need to accurately support my arguments.
