Procedures: Include critical thinking questions and accommodations for individual needs Reread the story as a choral reading. The text will be on the board, and students will have a copy as well. Tell students to keep and eye out for words they don't understand.

After reading, ask students about words that they think are hard or don't understand in the story. Ask how they might figure out the meaning of words they don't know. Explain how a lot of times we can ask someone or use context clues, but a dictionary can give a clear definition of the word. Ask students: Who has used a dictionary to find an unknown word? Who knows how a dictionary is organized? Discuss how a dictionary is in ABC order. Assign students partners and go over the Vocabulary worksheet. Explain how they will use a dictionary to look up the definition or meaning of the words. Model to students how to use the dictionary using an example word from the story. Give students time to complete worksheet with their partner. After 10 minutes bring students back together to share their answers.

Summary/Closing: Discuss what students thought about using the dictionaries. What did you find hard about using a dictionary? What are the benefits of using a dictionary? What do you like about using a dictionary? Do you feel like you understand the story better now that you know the meaning of these words?

Student Assessment: Students will be informally assessed through discussion. Students will also be assessed on completion of worksheet.
