22nd Annual National Night of Prayer for Life

And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us -John 1:14

As soon as the holy Spirit overshadowed the womb of the Virgin Mother, God immediately became one of the human family. In like manner, when a child is conceived in his mothers womb, he becomes one of us. This little human being now dwells among us. So that the world may understand this truth, COME PRAY WITH US! Join us in UNITY OF PRAYER across the country in our cathedrals, churches, and chapels, highlighting Eucharistic Adoration and the Rosary. If my people...humble themselves and pray, and seek my presence and turn from their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins and REVIVE THEIR LAND - 2 Chronicles 7:12 Now more than ever, America needs to invoke the intercession of our Blessed Mother!

Retirement Fund for Religious - Our 2nd Collection December 11, 2011
Share in the Care
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Your parish will soon present the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious, an opportunity to honor and thank retired Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests for their generous service to our Church and our world. Whether we realize it or not, we are all beneficiaries of the tremendous contributions these women and men have made. Through hard work, prayer and sacrifice, they established schools and hospitals, initiated programs to promote social justice and ministered to the neediest among us. I remain grateful for the ways they have shaped my own faith and for the outstanding service they have given to our archdiocese. I realize there are numerous worthy causes in need of assistance and that many individuals and families continue to struggle financially. I ask you simply to offer what you can for the care of women and men who have made such enormous contributions to our Church. Thank you for your support of this appeal. During the upcoming Advent season, you and those you love will be in my prayers in a special way; please keep me in yours. Sincerely yours in Christ, Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. Archbishop of Chicago

GODS DELAY
In times of great difficulties scoffers taunt us, Where is God? Why hasnt your Lord come to save you now? And we of faith respond much in the same way as Peter did in todays second reading: the delay of the Lords second coming is not any type of punishment or failure to keep the divine promise, but a loving sign of Gods patience. God is giving everyone the chance to seek repentance. God does not make life more difficult. Rather, God lessens our burdens as once before for the Jewish exiles returning home to Judea after captivity in Babylon. It was God who personally led them, making a straight highway for them across the desert. We join with our ancestors of faith, who hoped that they might see Gods Chosen One before them and who eventually realized that the Lord was also walking with them side by side.
