STAFF POSITIONS
LRC DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION Faith Academys Secondary Library functions as the primary resource base supportive of teaching and research for faculty and students. A secondary mandate is to provide materials to meet the recreational and leisure reading needs of the parent community. The successful applicant for the position of Head Librarian will be flexible with regard to work routines and will be detail oriented. This person will exhibit an attitude of willingness to assist others with their information/research needs, and will be committed to the mandate, goals, and objectives of the LRC. Desired Qualifications: 1. Degree or Certification in Librarianship/Teacher-Librarian or Library Science 2. One year of administrative experience, while not essential, would be highly desirable 3. Teaching and/or librarian experience at the secondary level Requirements: 1. Well developed knowledge and understanding of all library functions in a school/academic setting. 2. Highly developed interpersonal relations skills. 3. Commitment to the mission, objectives and goals of Faith Academy and the Library. 4. Willingness to participate as a team member to equip our students with the information literacy skills essential for life-long learning. 5. Commitment to continuing professional growth and development. Duties: 1. Management of staff, collections and services. 2. Supervision of the volunteers and student aides. 3. Orientation/library instruction focused on information literacy. 4. Information/Reference service for LRC patrons. 5. Collaborate with faculty to promote information literacy in student learning. 6. Collection development encompassing selection, analysis, evaluation and renewal. 7. Budget planning for library resources and initiatives. 8. Coordinate the acquisition, processing, and cataloguing of resource materials. 9. Development of instructional materials to enhance access to information. The following has been developed for Becca Van Weerdhuizen for the transition period of her 2010/11 Home Assignment. Becca will assume the full position in June 2011. Tweak the design of space to enhance both academic and casual use Becca VanWeerduizen and the Library/LRC Director Position Becca is approved for this position because she is a gifted educator, who brings a wealth of ideas to our students at both the middle and high school levels, and will support and promote a comprehensive program of reading and literacy. Expectations for Home Assignment 1. From September 2010 to March 2011 a. Visit middle & high school libraries in the US b. Visit/interview school librarians c. Grow in knowledge of adolescent fiction d. Purchase resources to enhance current collection e. Begin coursework toward Librarianship or Teacher-Librarian Certification 2. Return to Faith Academy in April 2011 a. Intern/apprenticeship with current LRC Director for approximately 8 weeks b. Serve on the Library Development Committee LRC ELEMENTARY TEACHER-LIBRARIAN JOB DESCRIPTION Overview: Faith Academys Learning Resource Center (LRC) functions primarily to promote life-long learning by providing a collection of quality resources along with the environment and services required by our faculty, staff and students to meet their educational goals. A secondary mandate is to provide materials to meet the recreational and leisure reading needs of the parent community. The current collection consists of 40, 000 volumes of books, periodicals, microfiche, video/DVD resources and music CD-ROMs. Approximately 16, 000 volumes are held in the Elementary LRC while 24,000 volumes are available in the Secondary LRC. Present staffing consists of the Director (Head Librarian), Assistant Librarian, Elementary Teacher-Librarian, Secretary (employee) and 18 20 volunteer aides. The Elementary TeacherLibrarians responsibilities encompass: reading program K 5, collection development and renewal, information literacy (library skills and Internet access) and reference/information service. Job Requirements: 1. Well developed knowledge of childrens literature and the reading needs of K 5 students 2. Highly developed interpersonal relations skills 3. Commitment to the mission, objectives and goals of the LRC 4. Willingness to participate as a team member with LRC staff in providing a quality collection and services to support the information and reading needs of our users 5. 1. A degree in Teacher-Librarianship or a degree at the Masters level (or the equivalent) in Librarianship or Library Science 2. Two years experience in a K 8 school library 3. Supervisory experience while not essential would be highly desirable. Job Responsibilities: 1. Responsible for the promotion of reading and initiation of the reading program for K - 5 2. Responsible for collection development and renewal for the Elementary LRC 3. Assist users of the Elementary LRC with information and reading needs 4. Develop instructional resources to assist users in accessing information 5. Responsible for information literacy instruction including library skills & Internet access 6. Assist in training and supervising volunteer aides LRC SECRETARY JOB DESCRIPTION Overview: Faith Academy's Learning Resource Center (LRC) functions as a resource base for students, faculty and the parent community to enhance learning through reading (literacy) and through the ability to find, examine and use information for decision making, problem solving, and a lifelong pursuit of knowledge (information literacy).The current collection consists of 45,000 + volumes of books, periodicals, DVDs/ videos, and music CDs. Approximately 26,900 volumes are located in the Secondary LRC while 18,800 volumes are held in the Elementary LRC. Present staffing consists of the Director (Head Librarian), Elementary Librarian, Information Services Assistant (part-time), Cataloguer (part-time), the LRC Secretary (employee), approx. 20 -25 volunteer aides and a student aide. The role of the LRC Secretary is critical to the day-to-day operation of the Library encompassing the maintenance, processing, and circulation of the collection as well as responsibility for data entry of internal charges (Excel) and notification of overdue resources and fines (Admin Plus). Daily interaction with library patrons, staff, and volunteers is an essential aspect of the LRC Secretary's responsibilities. Job Requirements: 1. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher, and Admin Plus - essential. 2. Knowledge of Excel, the Internet, document scanning, and the Lamination machine highly desirable 3. Keyboarding skills at 60w/min essential 4. Takes direction well and responds in a timely manner - essential 5. Well developed interpersonal relations skills - highly desirable 6. Ability to work independently to accomplish necessary tasks - essential 7. Clear understanding of role and expectations with a desire to participate as a team member with the LRC Director and Elementary Librarian in a common commitment to the goals and objectives of the Learning Resource Center - essential Educational Requirements: 1. Record internal charges (copying, printing, laminating) via Excel weekly 8. Enter overdue / fine statements via Admin Plus and email - weekly 9. The successful applicant for the position of Information Services Librarian will be flexible with regard to work routines and will be detail oriented. This person will exhibit an attitude of service in assisting LRC patrons with their information/research needs, and will be committed to the mission, goals and objectives of the LRC. Qualifications: 1. A degree at the Masters level (or the equivalent) in Librarianship or Library Science 2. Two years experience in a K-12 school library or college library

3. Supervisory experience while not essential would be highly desirable Requirements: 1. Orientation and library instruction LRC LIBRARY MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION Classification: - Full time volunteer position Under the supervision of the LRC director

Responsibilities: - Daily managerial operation of elementary library Assist teachers, students, parents and home schoolers Schedule library usage Oversee circulation, overdues, shelving, catalogue maintenance Oversee collection maintenance o o Shelf checking Collection renewal withdrawal, repairs, replacements

Oversee room maintenance Support of Elementary Library Program Assist small groups of children working on teacher-directed activities Serve as substitute teach for elementary librarian on a regular basis Assist elementary teachers to find subject-related LRC materials Assist librarians with room decoration

LRC CATALOGUER JOB DESCRIPTION The Faith Academy cataloguing position requires an individual who has experience with either the descriptive cataloguing and classification of materials for a library or with data entry or similar detailed computer input of information and is willing to learn and adhere to prescribed cataloguing rules. There are approximately 1000 books added each year to the collection as new entries to the catalogue plus the ongoing maintenance of the online catalogue. The cataloguing position in the Faith Academy LRC requires the person to undertake the following tasks: Create Bibliographic records within the Follett program for all new acquisitions as well as selected items received as donations to be added to the LRC for both the Elementary and Secondary Library collections. Use BookWhere software to import bibliographic records where possible or create bibliographic records manually within the Follett program using the Dewey Decimal Classification System and Library of Congress Subject Headings. Use Marc 21 standards for inputting or editing bibliographic records. Use Library of Congress Subject Headings and Dewey Decimal Classification System to facilitate access to materials within the LRC collection. Assist in the processing of books in preparation for adding to the collection.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS

Review Volunteer Aide duties and procedures as outlined in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) Manual Become familiar with the arrangement and location of resource materials i.e. DDC and location symbols Learn general library procedures by reviewing the LRC Manual, observing how others handle procedures, and by asking questions Perform duties outlined including shelving and shelf reading on each of your assigned days Check the bulletin board behind the Circulation Desk regularly for information and notes Ask questions of LRC staff at any time and particularly when clarification of procedures is required Be willing to take on a special job when need arises and as requested Welcome and assist users with their information, photocopy, printing, computer booking, and Circulation related needs Learn when to refer queries from users to the LRC Director or LRC Secretary Attend as many Volunteer Aide functions as possible

LIBRARY STUDENT AIDES Expectations for performance: 1. Take home and study the blue library manual. 2. Perform daily work: - Read bulletin board notes daily - Shelve books - Learn circulation desk routine - Deliver mail (if designated) - Do assigned work 3. Assist with miscellaneous projects as directed. 4. Use initiative in finding tasks that need to be done. 5. Maintain a cheerful and cooperative attitude. 6. Be prompt - arrive before the tardy bell. To receive an "A" grade: 1. First quarter, study the layout of the library (library map) and library location information packet. Request the library location test by mid-quarter. Take the test as many times as necessary to get 100%. 2. First quarter, study the ALPHABETICAL ORDER sheet outside of class and request the test when you are ready. Pass with a B grade or better. 3. Each semester, plan a bulletin board and corresponding book display. Use outsideof-class time to put up the bulletin board and display the books. A B or C grade would occur if: a) the library manual were not read outside of class b) test scores were low and not improved before quarters end c) and / or if a quarterly bulletin board were not prepared.
