ngineering Group of OISD is a nodal agency lending support to other groups in OISD on technical matters besides making new standards and revision of existing engineering standards on the basis of technical developments/ advancements. The cross-country pipeline activities are also co-ordinated by the group. Following are the areas of work of the group:

1.

External Safety Audit (ESA): Engineering Group lends support to upstream and downstream groups in OISD to carry out ESA. The concerned member looks into the safety features in Design, Construction, Operation & Maintenance mainly besides verifying the efficacy of fire & safety & detection system in place. ESA of cross country Pipelines i.e Liquid, Gas, LPG is being carried out exclusively by engineering group. 2. Pre - Commissioning Safety Audits: Pre-commissioning Safety Audits of new facilities in cross country Pipelines and in downstream installations are carried out on the basis of structured check lists and walk through observations. Carrying out of internal safety audit by muti-disciplinary groups, filling up of OISD checklist and certification that all project work is over and installation is ready for commissioning are precursors to Pre Commissioning Safety Audit. 3. Accident Analysis: Engineering Group is involved for investigation of fires and accidents to bring out factors responsible for occurrence of various type of incidents and suggest remedial measures to prevent recurrence. Case studies are presented at various forums for dissemination. 4. Development of OISD Standards: Engineering Group facilitates preparation of related OISD standards taking into consideration international standards such as IEC, ASME, API,ISO, NFPA etc. to help the Oil & Gas industry in India to follow common safety norms. A) Safety Council approved the following three new standards for adoption :

1. OISD-GDN-228: Selection , Training & Placement of Fire Operators in Hydrocarbon & Petrochemical Industry 2. OISD-STD-230: Unlined Underground Rock Cavern Storage for Petroleum and Liquefied Petroleum Gas 3. OISD-STD-231: Sucker Rod Pumping Units

B) Safety Council approved the following ten OISD Standards after complete review : 1. OISD-STD-119: Selection, Operation and Maintenance of Pumps 2. OISD-STD-120: Selection, Operation and Maintenance of 3. OISD-RP-122 : Selection , Operation and Maintenance of Fans, Blowers, Gear Boxes, Agitators & Mixers 4. OISD-GDN-186: Simultaneous operations in Exploration & Production industry 9. OISD-RP-201 : Environment Management in Exploration Production Sector 10. OISD-STD-169: Addendum to OISD guidelines on small LPG bottling plants (Design & Fire protection facilities) C) Safety Council approved the amendments in following five OISD standards: 1. OISD-STD-116:Fire Protection facilities for Petroleum Refineries and Oil/Gas Processing Plants 2. OISD-STD-117:Fire Protection Facilities for Petroleum Depots and Terminals 3. OISD-STD-118:Layouts for Oil and Gas Installations 4. OISD-STD-144:LPG Installations 5. OISD-STD-150:Design and Layout of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Mounded Storage Vessels
5. Safety Workshops: Engineering Group facilitates such workshops in close coordination with industry. Industry members are encouraged to share and disseminate experiences and knowledge through presentation of papers and discussions. 6. In-house Magazine: The group facilitates publishing of quarterly house journal 'Petrosafe magazine and monthly News Letter. The industrys experience in fire & safety and technical advancements are shared through this effort. 7.
