Inside an electric vehicle

A Charger Charger converts AC electric current from an electrical outlet to DC power. Also included in the charger is communication systems that monitor battery condition to automatically determine safe amount to charge current and voltage Power distribution provides all the safety interlocks between the charger, batteries and motor inverters. Batteries store the energy received from the chargers or regeneration during braking. This stored energy is then provided to the inverter based on the command of the driver. All batteries have monitors that communicate with the inverter on state of charge and anticipated range of the vehicle In most electric vehicles motors used are AC motors, inverters (sometime called controllers) convert the DC energy stored in the batteries to AC motor. Electric motor converts electric energy to mechanical energy generating RPM based on speed requirements from driver (throttle pedal input) Automatic transmission provides mechanical advantage during start up, acting as torque multiplier during acceleration improving motor efciency Transfer powers from the drive shaft to the wheels resulting in motion
